- Patterns and trends in atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter incidence rates in G20 countries (1990-2021) and predictions to 2050. [Journal Article]Medicine (Baltimore). 2026 Sep 25; 105(39):e50755.M
- The long-term trend in atrial fibrillation (AF) and atrial flutter (AFL) incidence has rarely been reported from a global perspective. We aimed to explore the past temporal trends (1990-2021) in AF/AFL incidence in group of 20 countries and to predict future trends (2022-2050). Data on yearly AF/AFL incidence by age group and sex were extracted from the global burden of disease study 2021. Age-st…

- Stroke recurrence after primary intracerebral haemorrhage: a population-based study of clinical and MRI factors associated with recurrence. [Journal Article]J Neurol Neurosurg Psychiatry. 2026 Sep 25. [Online ahead of print]JN
- CONCLUSIONS: Recurrence patterns differed by index ICH location. CAA-related MRI markers were associated with HSR, whereas ISR was associated with vascular risk and brainstem small-vessel disease. These findings identify candidate predictors for the development of recurrence prediction models, with potential utility in supporting clinical decision.

- A Special Muscle Fiber Surviving After Septal Line Ablation of Mitral-Isthmus Dependent Atrial Flutter. [Journal Article]
- Following unsuccessful supero-septal line ablation for mitral isthmus-dependent atrial flutter, a conduction gap may occur along the septoatrial bundle (SAB). In such cases, linear ablation extending perpendicularly to the supero-septal ablation line (SSL) toward Bachmann's bundle (BB) may achieve complete conduction block across the supero-septal ablation line.

- Cardiovascular outcomes associated With GLP-1 and dual GLP-1/GIP receptor agonists in patients with type 2 diabetes and inflammatory bowel disease: A retrospective real-world cohort study. [Journal Article]PLoS One. 2026; 21(9):e0358659.Plos
- CONCLUSIONS: In patients with comorbid T2D and IBD, GLP-1 and GLP-1/GIP receptor agonists were associated with significant reductions in ischemic, arrhythmic, and thromboembolic cardiovascular outcomes. These findings highlight the potential role of incretin-based therapies in improving cardiovascular risk management in this high-risk population. However, the present study does not establish the comparative efficacy of the two classes of drugs in this patient population, and the findings may be associational rather than causal. Both drug classes were analyzed as a combined exposure group. Mechanistic explanations proposed in this paper should be considered hypothesis-generating rather than confirmed by the current observational study design.

- Leveraging AI-ECG Technology for Early Notification and Tracking of AF Development (LATENT): Study Rationale and Design of a Randomized Controlled Trial. [Journal Article]
- Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a progressive condition that is often undiagnosed until adverse events occur. Traditional risk scores provide limited value for predicting short-term latent AF. Artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled electrocardiogram (ECG) algorithms enable early risk stratification from sinus rhythm ECGs, however their clinical utility remains unvalidated in randomized controlled trial…

- Atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter in China: trends and projections to 2050 from GBD 2023. [Journal Article]
- Atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter (AF/AFL) impose a mounting health burden worldwide, yet no comprehensive study has systematically evaluated their long‑term trajectories and future scenarios for China using the latest Global Burden of Disease (GBD) data. Using the GBD 2023 dataset, we extracted age- and sex-specific burden estimates of AF/AFL for China (1990-2023). Joinpoint regression, age…

- Atrial Flutter in Partially Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Return: Electrophysiological Insights in Holt-Oram Syndrome. [Case Reports]Pacing Clin Electrophysiol. 2026 Sep 23. [Online ahead of print]PC
- Partially anomalous pulmonary vein return (PAPVR) is a heterogeneous group of congenital heart defects. Here, we describe a 51-year-old patient with corrected PAPVR (cPAPVR) and atrioventricular canal defect who presented for AFL ablation. The right pulmonary veins were isolated, and the OP was heterogeneously fibrotic. Three left AFL and one cavo-tricuspid isthmus (CTI)-dependent AFL were induce…

- Epidemiologic shift and future projections of atrial fibrillation and flutter in North Africa and the Middle East region: A comprehensive Global Burden of Disease analysis. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrated the growing burden of AFF across the NAME region with clear disparities by sex, geography, and economic status. Compared with males, females continue to have a disproportionate share of AFF-related mortality and disability.

- Resolution of Right Atrial Pacemaker Lead Thrombosis After Rivaroxaban Failure: A Case Report. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This case underscores the inadequacy of NOAC monotherapy in selected high-risk patients with lead-associated thrombus, and demonstrates that INR-guided warfarin therapy with individualized adjustment was effective in achieving thrombus resolution.

- Association of Preexisting Atrial Fibrillation or Flutter With 30-Day Outcomes After Septic Shock: A Propensity-Matched Federated Database Study. [Journal Article]Cardiol Rev. 2026 Sep 23. [Online ahead of print]CR
- Preexisting atrial fibrillation (AF) or atrial flutter may impair cardiovascular reserve during septic shock, potentially leading to worse clinical outcomes; however, its independent association with short-term outcomes remains uncertain. Using the TriNetX U.S. Collaborative Network, we identified adults with septic shock and compared patients with preexisting AF/flutter, documented at least 1 mo…

- Beta-Blockers for the Treatment of Arrhythmias: Which Drug for Which Arrhythmia? A State-of-the-Art Narrative Review. [Review]
- Beta-blockers are among the most widely prescribed drugs in the management of both supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias, and they are frequently regarded as a homogeneous pharmacological class. They are not. The agents in current use differ substantially in beta1-receptor selectivity, lipophilicity, half-life, route of administration, intrinsic sympathomimetic activity, and ancillary prop…
