- Antimicrobial resistance phenotypes, disinfectant susceptibility, and resistance-associated gene detection in carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa from two tertiary hospitals in Urumqi, China. [Journal Article]Front Cell Infect Microbiol. 2026; 16:1938496.FC
- CONCLUSIONS: CRPA isolates from these two hospitals showed uniform nonsusceptibility to carbapenems, with failure to amplify the expected oprD target the most frequent molecular observation. XDR isolates showed higher benzalkonium bromide MICs in vitro compared with non-XDR isolates. qacEΔ1-sul1 was the predominant disinfectant resistance gene detected, but its association with the XDR phenotype did not survive correction for multiple comparisons, and carriage was not accompanied by any measurable difference in benzalkonium bromide susceptibility. These findings provide baseline epidemiological data for Urumqi, though whole-genome sequencing, molecular typing, expression analysis, and standardised biocide efficacy testing would be required to establish mechanistic determinants.

- Impact of Antimicrobial stewardship implementation in an Intensive Care Unit in Central India - A Microbiologist-Intensivist driven initiative. [Journal Article]Indian J Med Microbiol. 2026 Oct 01; :101308. [Online ahead of print]IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: A microbiologist-intensivist-driven AMSP is feasible and may reduce AMC in Indian ICU where infectious disease specialists are scarce. Integrating microbiology expertise with bedside decision-making offers a practical and scalable stewardship model for high-burden Lower Middle-Income Countries, and a scalable template for programme expansion.

- CONCLUSIONS: IPM-FNB combined with sulbactam shows promising activity in vitro against CRAB that may warrant further investigation. In addition, IPM-FNB combined with aztreonam demonstrates promising in vitro synergistic activity against CREC and CRKP, including both KPC-2- and NDM-producing isolates. Additive activity was most common in IPM-FNB combinations against CRPA.

- Risk factors for infection in NDM-colonized patients and applicability of the Giannella Risk Score. [Journal Article]Eur J Clin Microbiol Infect Dis. 2026 Sep 30. [Online ahead of print]EJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Multisite colonisation was strongly and independently associated with progression to infection in NDM carriers, while the Giannella Risk Score, as a continuous score, showed acceptable discrimination. Given the substantial overlap between these measures, larger studies are needed to directly compare the predictive performance of colonisation burden with the full GRS in NDM-predominant settings.

- Altered regulation of septal peptidoglycan synthesis modulates β-lactam susceptibility in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. [Journal Article]PLoS Genet. 2026 Sep 28; 22(9):e1012319. [Online ahead of print]PG
- Bacterial cell division requires precise regulation of septal peptidoglycan (PG) synthesis by the essential SEDS-bPBP synthase FtsWI. Activation of FtsWI is thought to occur through an allosteric cascade initiated by the late-arriving divisome protein FtsN and transmitted via the FtsQ-FtsL-FtsB (FtsQLB) complex, but the molecular details of this process remain incompletely defined and differ acro…

- Virulence arsenal and antibiotic resistance backgrounds in Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates from hospital wastewater samples from Iraq. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The most P. aeruginosa isolates possessed toxA and lasB genes. The results indicated that hospital effluents are critical sources of MDR and virulent P. aeruginosa, and there is an urgent demand to improve the management of wastewater.

- Ceftazidime-Avibactam Versus Colistin-Based Regimens for Carbapenem-Resistant Enterobacterales Bloodstream Infections: A Six-Year Retrospective Cohort and 30-Day Mortality Analysis. [Journal Article]
- Bloodstream infections (BSIs) caused by carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales (CPE) carry a high mortality, and comparative real-world data remain limited, particularly for metallo-β-lactamase (MBL) and dual-carbapenemase producers. We conducted a single-centre, six-year (2020-2025) retrospective study of 308 adults with CPE BSIs at a Romanian tertiary hospital, applying multivariable logistic…

- Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) caused by multidrug-resistant Klebsiella spp. represent a critical and escalating global public health threat. Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) has been designated a critical-priority pathogen by the World Health Organization, and in the 2024 WHO Bacterial Priority Pathogens List, it was the top-ranked pathogen overall. The convergence of c…

- Novel β-Lactam/β-Lactamase Inhibitors Versus Best Available Therapy on the Mortality-Related Carbapenem-Resistant Enterobacterales Infection: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Innovative BL/BLI combinations lower all-cause mortality compared to BAT. This effect is extremely reliant on the comparator regimen composition, the specific BL/BLI drug, and the underlying resistance mechanism. These data support a precision medicine approach guided by rapid molecular diagnostics. These findings underscore the urgent need for novel agents against MBL-producing strains, including the recently approved aztreonam-avibactam.

- The Evolving Clonal, Plasmid-Mediated Resistome, Virulome and Therapeutic Landscape of Carbapenem-Resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae in Oman. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: CRKP in Oman is characterised by convergent clonal expansion, plasmid-mediated resistance, retained virulence potential and narrowing therapeutic options. Integrated genomic surveillance with carbapenemase-directed susceptibility and synergy testing is essential to guide precision antimicrobial stewardship in high-risk healthcare settings and inform early infection prevention responses to emerging regional CRKP lineages.

- Multidrug-resistant (MDR) Gram-negative bacteria pose significant therapeutic challenges due to their protective outer membranes and evolving resistance mechanisms. Exploiting bacterial iron uptake pathways via siderophore-antibiotic conjugates offers a promising strategy to enhance antibiotic efficacy.
