- Association between dietary branched-chain amino acid intake and anaemia risk in children and adolescents: a matched case-control study. [Journal Article]
- Anaemia in children and adolescents is multifactorial, and evidence on dietary amino-acid intake in relation to anaemia remains limited. This study examined the association between dietary branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) intake and haemoglobin (Hb)-defined anaemia among Chinese children and adolescents using data from the 2016-2019 China Children and Lactating Women Nutrition and Health Survey. …

- Multi-Omics Integration Reveals Metabolic Reprogramming and EMT-Driven Metastasis in Triple-Negative Breast Cancer. [Journal Article]
- Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive subtype with high metastatic potential and poor prognosis, yet the molecular mechanisms driving metastasis remain incompletely understood. Here, we performed integrated transcriptomic, metabolomic, and imaging mass cytometry (IMC) analyses on tumor tissues from 52 TNBC patients stratified into NonMeta (long-term survival without metastasis, n …

- Glyco-transformed Gynostemma pentaphyllum extract ameliorates MAFLD by regulating BCAA homeostasis. [Journal Article]Bioorg Chem. 2026 Oct 05; 183:110625. [Online ahead of print]BC
- Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) has become a highly prevalent chronic metabolic disease worldwide. Current clinical drugs are limited by poor long-term efficacy, potential safety risks and high costs. As a popular daily beverage, Gynostemma pentaphyllum exerts prominent hepatoprotective, lipid-regulating and hypoglycemic activities, making it a promising natural agent…

- Semaglutide, independent of weight loss, attenuates cardiac and hepatic remodelling in experimental heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. [Journal Article]Eur Heart J. 2026 Oct 05. [Online ahead of print]EH
- CONCLUSIONS: Semaglutide attenuates cardiac and hepatic remodelling in preclinical models of obesity-associated cardiometabolic HFpEF in the absence of profound weight loss. The conservation of these effects across male rodents and female swine supports their translational relevance, while future studies are needed to define dose equivalence and confirm GLP-1 receptor engagement in cardiac and hepatic tissues. These findings support further mechanistic investigation of weight loss-independent GLP-1 receptor agonist signalling in this HFpEF phenotype.

- Metabolomic biomarkers and metabolic remodelling in genetically characterised hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: a systematic review. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: No distinct genotype-specific metabolic signature was identified across studies; the metabolic remodelling pattern reflected phenotypic severity rather than the causal variants. While metabolomics shows potential in improving disease characterisation and biomarker discovery, further longitudinal and externally validated studies are required before clinical translation.

- Valorization of tofu-processing wastewater for sustainable nattokinase production: insights from integrated multi-omics analysis. [Journal Article]
- Nattokinase (NK) is a fibrinolytic enzyme with considerable potential for applications in functional foods and biomedicine; however, its economical and efficient production remains challenging. In this study, tofu-processing wastewater (TPW) was employed as a low-cost nitrogen source for NK production, and integrated transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses were performed to characterize cellular …

- Metabolic reprogramming in diabetic panvascular disease: Molecular mechanism and therapeutic strategies. [Review]
- Diabetes mellitus substantially increases the risk of cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, renal, retinal and peripheral vascular complications. These are collectively referred to as diabetic panvascular disease. A traditional approach that treats each complication separately is no longer sufficient. An emerging framework places metabolic reprogramming at its center. This review examines how the diab…

- Effect of Branched-Chain Amino Acid-enriched nutritional supplement after exercise on skeletal muscle mass in patients undergoing surgery for gastrointestinal cancer. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Perioperative exercise therapy combined with BCAA-enriched supplementation did not significantly improve thigh skeletal muscle area, muscle strength, or walking ability after surgery in patients undergoing gastrointestinal cancer surgery compared with amino acid-free supplementation. Further studies with adequate sample sizes and higher BCAA intake are warranted.

- Remodeling of mitochondrial dynamics by metabolic pathways couples to oncogenic growth in GNAS (Gαs) mutant pancreas cancer. [Journal Article]
- Maintenance of fissed mitochondria is viewed as a defining feature of Kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene homolog (KRAS)-mutant cancers. However, regulation of this process by accompanying comutations or environmental factors is not clearly defined. Here, by analyzing a subset of pancreatic cancer lesions driven by concurrent Kras[G12D] and GNAS complex locus gene (GNAS[R201C/H]) mutations, we fou…

- MTAP loss upregulates BCAT1 in pancreatic cancer and drives branched-chain amino acid dependency. [Journal Article]Cell Rep. 2026 Sep 29; 45(10):118046. [Online ahead of print]CR
- Methylthioadenosine phosphorylase (MTAP) deficiency is prevalent in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Herein, we reveal that MTAP loss in PDAC induces a branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) dependency by upregulating the expression of BCAA transaminase 1 (BCAT1) through DNA demethylation. We establish that BCAT1 upregulation promotes cell proliferation and migration in PDAC by fueling the tric…

- Perirenal fat β3-adrenergic signaling alleviates renal fibrosis via regulating Bcat2/BCAA-TNFα pathway in diabetic kidney disease. [Journal Article]
- Tubulointerstitial fibrosis predicts irreversible kidney function loss in diabetic kidney disease (DKD), but adipose-derived signals that shape fibrogenesis are poorly defined. Here, we show that perirenal fat (PRF), an adipose depot contiguous with the kidney, is enriched for β3-adrenergic receptor (ADRB3) and that ADRB3 expression is reduced in human DKD and male mouse DKD models. - Circulating Amino Acid Profiles in Adults with Abnormal Body Mass Index: Associations with Triglycerides, HDL Cholesterol, LDL Cholesterol, and Total Cholesterol in an Exploratory Cross-Sectional Metabolomic Pilot Study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In this exploratory pilot cohort, lipid dysregulation in abnormal BMI was associated with two partially separable amino acid axes: a glutamic acid-glutamine axis (TG and partially HDL-C), and a glycine-serine putatively protective pattern opposing all atherogenic lipid parameters. These findings extend the established BCAA-insulin-resistance paradigm and suggest that targeted amino acid profiling-particularly for glutamic acid, leucine, glycine, and serine-may serve as a way of discovering candidate biomarkers for further study for dyslipidemia in individuals with abnormal BMI.

- The Role of Branched-Chain Amino Acids in Nutrient Allocation of the Porcine Placenta: A Review. [Review]
- During swine gestation, the placenta serves as the sole interface for nutrient, gas, and signaling molecule exchange between the dam and fetuses, and its function critically determines pregnancy outcomes. Branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs)-leucine, isoleucine, and valine-are substrates for protein synthesis, precursors for glutamate and glutathione, and signaling molecules that activate the mecha…
