- StatPearls: Bedbug Bites [BOOK]StatPearls. StatPearls Publishing: Treasure Island (FL).BOOK
- There are as many as 90 species of "bugs" (bed bugs are true bugs with specialized elongated mouthparts) within the family Cimicidae; however, few bite humans. The two main species that most commonly bite humans are Cimex lectularius and the tropical bed bug, Cimex hemipterus. Cimex hemipterus is usually found in the tropics within 30 degrees of the equator and Cimex lectularius in more moderate …
- Clinical manifestations of bed bug bites: A systematic review of case reports. [Systematic Review]PLoS One. 2026; 21(4):e0341398.Plos
- CONCLUSIONS: Bed bug bites predominantly affect exposed extremities, although with variable dermatologic patterns that can be confused with other arthropod bites. Psychological manifestations were reported in a small subset of cases, while systemic complications were rare.

- Ectoparasite- and Vector-Borne-Related Dermatoses: A Single-Centre Study with Practical Diagnostic and Management Insights in a One Health Perspective. [Journal Article]
- Background: Parasitic skin-related conditions represent a frequent and evolving challenge in human dermatology, as they often mimic other dermatoses, and are increasingly complicated by therapeutic resistance. With this study, we aimed to provide a practical, clinician-oriented overview of our experience, contextualising it within the current literature. Materials and Methods: We conducted a retr…

- Acceptability and preferences for dual-active ingredient long-lasting insecticidal nets in rural Tanzania: a mixed-methods study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Acceptability and sustained use of dual-AI LLINs are shaped by perceived efficacy, comfort, and net integrity, while barriers like bed bugs and skin irritation reduce use. Addressing non-target pest issues, targeting different groups of users with tailored education, and integrating user perception into LLIN procurement can enhance uptake and impact. It is recommended that manufacturers and policymakers consider these community-informed insights to guide the development and deployment of more acceptable LLINs.

- Severe Iron Deficiency Anaemia Caused by bed bug Parasitisation without a Rash. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Iron deficiency anaemia may develop in elderly patients, particularly those with decreased activities of daily living or social isolation, if their living environment is chronically infested by bed bugs.Bed bug bites do not always present skin symptoms, as repeated exposure may lead to desensitization and an attenuated cutaneous reaction, especially in older adults.Careful history-taking and a thorough physical examination, including inspection of the patient's clothing and living environment, are essential to determine if bed bugs are the cause of otherwise unexplainable anaemia.

- Systemic illness with eosinophilia and urticaria-like rash caused by prolonged bedbug exposure. [Case Reports]Int J Infect Dis. 2025 Oct; 159:107991.IJ
- Bedbugs are blood-feeding nocturnal ectoparasites, which are well-adapted to human habitats. In recent decades, bedbug infestation has been an emerging health problem worldwide, affecting all socio-economic population strata. The clinical presentations of bedbug exposure are variable, ranging from simple pruriginous bite lesions to severe cutaneous and systemic manifestations. Diagnosis is challe…

- Efficiency of MALDI-TOF MS at identifying and discriminating immature stages of cimex lectularius and cimex hemipterus bed bugs. [Journal Article]
- Over the last two decades, an increase in bed bug infestations has been observed worldwide. Although their definitive role as vectors of infectious agents has not yet been demonstrated, bed bugs have a direct effect on human health through dermatological reactions to their bites and psychological disorders linked to domestic infestations. In this study, the effectiveness of using MALDI-TOF MS to …

- Scabies, Bedbug, and Body Lice Infestations: A Review. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Scabies, bedbug, and body lice infestations are common. Accurate diagnosis requires taking a history, including social drivers of health (eg, housing status, living environment), and physical examination. First-line treatments include scabicides for patients with common scabies and their close contacts. Scabies, bedbug, and body lice infestations should be treated with decontamination measures.

- Deployment and transcriptional evaluation of nitisinone, an FDA-approved drug, to control bed bugs. [Journal Article]
- Bed bugs are blood-feeders that rapidly proliferate into large indoor infestations. Their bites can cause allergies, secondary infections and psychological stress, among other problems. Although several tactics for their management have been used, bed bugs continue to spread worldwide wherever humans reside. This is mainly due to human-mediated transport and their high resistance to several class…

- Development, feeding, and sex shape the relative quantity of the nutritional obligatory symbiont Wolbachia in bed bugs. [Journal Article]
- The common bed bug, Cimex lectularius, is a hemipteran insect that feeds only on blood, and whose bites cause public health issues. Due to globalization and resistance to insecticides, this pest has undergone a significant and global resurgence in recent decades. Blood is an unbalanced diet, lacking notably sufficient B vitamins. Like all strict hematophagous arthropods, bed bugs host a nutrition…

- Perceptions of Problems with Household Insects: Qualitative and Quantitative Findings from Peri-Urban Communities in Arequipa, Peru. [Journal Article]
- Vector-borne diseases continue to impose a major health burden on Peru and neighboring countries. The challenge of addressing vector-borne disease is compounded by changing social, economic, and climatic conditions. Peri-urban Arequipa is an important region to study insect infestations because of ongoing challenges with disease vectors such as triatomines and a variety of other insects. We condu…
