- Intense pulsed light as a multi-target intervention paradigm for refractory ocular surface diseases: a review. [Review]Eye Vis (Lond). 2026 Sep 30; 13(1).EV
- Ocular surface diseases (OSDs) are a heterogeneous group of disorders characterized by overlapping inflammatory, vascular, microbial, neuroimmune, and meibomian gland abnormalities that contribute to the onset and persistence of ocular surface symptoms and signs. Conventional symptom-directed therapies do not adequately alleviate refractory meibomian gland dysfunction, Demodex-associated blephari…

- Acquired Distichiasis in Dermatomyositis: A Possible Delayed Sequela of Chronic Periocular Inflammation. [Case Reports]
- Acquired distichiasis is an uncommon eyelid disorder characterized by an accessory row of eyelashes arising from the meibomian gland orifices, most often in the setting of chronic inflammatory or cicatricial disease. We report a case of a 65-year-old woman with longstanding dermatomyositis, recurrent periocular inflammation, and episodes of blepharitis who developed bilateral upper-eyelid distich…

- Ocular Adverse Events Associated With Dupilumab: Analysis From a Real-World Database. [Journal Article]Cornea. 2026 Sep 21. [Online ahead of print]C
- CONCLUSIONS: Our study found a low frequency of documented ocular adverse events among patients treated with dupilumab. Although routine ophthalmic screening for all patients initiating dupilumab may not be necessary, prescribing physicians should remain vigilant for ocular surface inflammation, particularly in patients with atopic dermatitis, and promptly refer patients who develop ocular symptoms for ophthalmic evaluation.

- Recognizing Paediatric Ocular Rosacea: Clinical Spectrum, Diagnostic Clues, and Treatment Outcomes. [Journal Article]Ocul Immunol Inflamm. 2026 Sep 18; :1-7. [Online ahead of print]OI
- CONCLUSIONS: Paediatric ocular rosacea is an underrecognized ocular surface disease with a broad clinical spectrum and often a delayed diagnosis. A standardized clinical severity score may provide a common language for grading and monitoring. Early recognition and appropriate long-term management may help reduce morbidity.

- Simultaneous and recurrent hordeola and chalazia associated with tirzepatide therapy: a case series. [Case Reports]
- Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and dual GLP-1/glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor agonists are increasingly prescribed for obesity and type 2 diabetes, but eyelid gland pathology has not previously been reported with these agents. We describe what we believe to be the first reported case series of 2 patients who developed multiple simultaneous internal hordeola after star…

- International Survey of Eye Care Practitioners on Dry Eye Disease: A Comparative Analysis of South Africa, the United Kingdom and Other Global Regions. [Journal Article]J Clin Med. 2026 Aug 31; 15(17).JC
- Background: Dry eye disease (DED) and meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) impose a significant global burden, yet clinical practice varies substantially between regions. This study investigated international trends in DED diagnosis and management among eye care practitioners (ECPs), with regional focus on South Africa (SA), the United Kingdom (UK) and the rest of the world (RoW; heterogeneous inter…

- Nanosuspension-based Ocular Therapeutics for Infection Control: Integrating Mucin Interactions and Tear Film Dynamics. [Review]
- Ocular infections can affect the ocular surface and adnexal structures, intraocular structures, or both. Infections of the ocular surface and adnexa often arise from the invasion of commensals when typical barriers are compromised, which includes infectious blepharitis, conjunctivitis, keratitis, dacryocystitis, and orbital infections, among others. Intraocular infections may develop due to local…

- Ocular complications in psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. [Review]
- Ophthalmologic symptoms are reported in 10-67% of psoriasis (Ps) cases and affect up to 31% of patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA). The most common include blepharitis, eyelid involvement, uveitis, dry eye syndrome, conjunctivitis, corneal changes, and cataract. Despite the relatively common eye involvement, these symptoms are often overlooked or inadequately managed. Therefore, dermatologist…

- Clinical Anterior Segment and Ocular Surface Findings Across Renal Replacement Modalities: Associations with CKD-Related Factors, Mineral Metabolism and Activin A. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In CKD, clinical anterior segment and ocular surface differences were largely explained by age, sex, and comorbidity rather than renal replacement modality, with visual acuity deficit persisting in HD after adjusting for these covariates. At the individual level, corrected calcium was the parameter most consistently associated with tear film parameters in KTRs, whereas elevated Activin A was not independently associated with ocular involvement and likely reflects systemic disease activity.

- Models Estimating the Effects of Changes in the Concentration of Specific Climatic Pollutants and Temperature on the Prevalence of Acute Ophthalmic Inflammatory Conditions: A Retrospective Cross-Sectional Observational Study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Formaldehyde, CO, SO2, PM2.5, and PM10 were significantly linked to inflammatory ocular conditions, with stronger associations after excluding noninflammatory cases and conjunctivitis. These findings highlight the role of environmental monitoring in predicting or reducing serious eye inflammation, supporting further large-scale research.

- Retinopathy in Dyskeratosis Congenita and Related Telomere Biology Disorders: Short Telomere-Associated Retinopathy (STAR). [Journal Article]Ophthalmol Retina. 2026 Aug 19. [Online ahead of print]OR
- CONCLUSIONS: Contrary to prior assumptions, the retinovascular abnormalities in patients with TBDs, including dyskeratosis congenita, were universal in our cohort. Patients with retinopathy have been termed Revesz syndrome until now, but with the advent of WF-FA, we show that the retinopathy is likely more prevalent than previously thought. We propose that these findings be termed short telomere-associated retinopathy to reflect the underlying systemic pathophysiology. Widefield fluorescein angiography facilitates diagnosis and management, with laser photocoagulation as the mainstay of treatment. Anti-VEGF and vitreoretinal surgery may be required depending on disease activity and severity.

- Vision screening in pre-school children in Asmara, Eritrea. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that, vision problems and eye diseases which may lead to a more serious level of irreversible visual impairment later in life are common in pre-school children. Moreover, vision screening examination testability was highest in the age group 3-5 years, so interventions could be made more efficient by concentrating in this age group.

- An interdisciplinary framework for management of ocular allergy: Integrating the allergist in clinical practice. [Review]
- Ocular allergy represents one of the most frequent yet under-recognized manifestations of pediatric allergic disorders, affecting up to 30% of children worldwide. The disease encompasses a spectrum ranging from mild, intermittent seasonal or perennial allergic conjunctivitis to severe, vision-threatening forms such as vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) and atopic keratoconjunctivitis (AKC). Despit…
