- Topical application of urolithin A activates mitophagy and enhances mitochondrial function to promote skin longevity. [Journal Article]iScience. 2026 Oct 16; 29(10):117646.I
- Urolithin A (UA, Mitopure), a postbiotic that promotes mitophagy and mitochondrial function following oral administration, was evaluated for its effects on skin health in human skin models and when applied topically to healthy subjects in randomized clinical studies. UA tested in 2D and 3D reconstructed human skin and ex vivo human skin explants showed enhanced mitochondrial respiration, activate…

- Age-related clinical characteristics of respiratory syncytial virus infection in hospitalized children: a retrospective study. [Journal Article]Transl Pediatr. 2026 Sep 30; 15(9):379.TP
- CONCLUSIONS: Compared with children aged ≤3 years, hospitalized children aged >3 years with RSV infection had higher proportions of fever, prolonged disease course, co-infection, and severe pneumonia. Early recognition and dynamic assessment should be emphasized in this age group to avoid underestimating disease severity based on age alone.

- What is the best dialysis regimen for severe AKI to allow kidney function recovery? [Review]Clin Kidney J. 2026 Oct; 19(10):sfag278.CK
- Acute kidney injury (AKI) recovery is a major determinant of long-term renal and patient outcomes. While transient AKI is associated with a more favorable prognosis, persistent or incomplete recovery increases the risk of chronic kidney disease, dialysis dependence, cardiovascular complications, and mortality. Renal recovery after AKI reflects the balance between adaptive repair processes and mal…

- Circulating angiogenic T cells as potential immune-vascular biomarkers associated with disease activity in axial spondyloarthritis. [Journal Article]Front Immunol. 2026; 17:1886629.FI
- CONCLUSIONS: Circulating angiogenic T cells are inversely associated with disease activity in axSpA and represent a novel immune-vascular biomarker that is not redundant with traditional inflammatory parameters. These findings provide a clinical immunophenotypic framework highlighting altered vascular repair-immune interactions in axSpA and support further functional studies to clarify the functional role of Tang cells in disease pathogenesis.

- Standardizing a human TBMNK cell assay across instrument platforms: a new framework for producing high-quality, AI-ready reference dataset. [Journal Article]Front Immunol. 2026; 17:1946801.FI
- Recent advances in regenerative medicine advanced therapies (RMAT) are revolutionizing health care by providing curative treatments for previously untreatable diseases. Flow cytometry assays have been used to measure critical quality attributes, including viability, identity, purity, strength, and potency of the RMAT. However, the lack of reproducibility, comparability, and measurement confidence…

- Tinnitus outcomes after cochlear implantation in single-sided deafness: an exploratory prospective multicenter study. [Multicenter Study]Front Neurol. 2026; 17:1970581.FN
- Tinnitus is thought to be suppressed through partial reversal of auditory deafferentation via cochlear implantation (CI). By stimulating the deafferented auditory pathway, multiple studies have revealed that tinnitus is significantly suppressed in 66-92% of patients undergoing CI. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of CI as a treatment for tinnitus and to investigate post-CI audiologic out…

- Nutritional and hematological determinants of immune reconstitution and development of a predictive model among virologically suppressed people living with HIV. [Journal Article]Front Nutr. 2026; 13:1936337.FN
- CONCLUSIONS: Approximately one-quarter of virologically suppressed PLWH did not achieve immune reconstitution after long-term ART. Immune recovery occurred predominantly during the first year after ART initiation. In addition to established predictors such as age, baseline CD4 + T cell count, and WHO clinical stage, BMI and hemoglobin levels may serve as readily obtainable clinical indicators reflecting nutritional reserve and overall health status. The developed prediction model may provide a practical approach for identifying individuals with delayed immune recovery and supporting individualized clinical monitoring.

- Stress recovery and restorative effects of viewing different types of peony garden landscapes: a preliminary experiment. [Journal Article]Front Psychol. 2026; 17:1935645.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: In the current VR experiment, peony garden landscapes, especially those with abundant landscape elements and visual experience, exhibited therapeutic potential for short-term stress recovery compared with the windowless indoor office scene. The findings offer preliminary guidance for creating health-promoting peony garden landscapes.

- A big problem for little people: the impact of proposed Medicaid reimbursement cuts and the fragility of pediatric rheumatology care. [Journal Article]Pediatr Rheumatol Online J. 2026 Oct 12; 24(1).PR
- CONCLUSIONS: This paper poses some potential solutions including the recent American Board of Pediatrics decision to shorten the duration of subspeciality training for pediatric rheumatology, offering loan repayment, and expanding the role of advanced practice providers. It also highlights the importance of leveraging advocacy groups to fight for policies that promote the health and well-being of children living with rheumatologic conditions and advocate for policies that sustain reimbursement for specialty care.

- The rise of agentic AI in drug discovery from static tools to autonomous virtual scientists. [Review]NPJ Drug Discov. 2026 Oct 12; 3(1).ND
- Driven by large language models, AI agents are transforming drug discovery, enabling AI to break free from task-specific tools and advance toward the vision of autonomous virtual scientists. This perspective reviews applications across the R&D lifecycle. To evaluate system maturity, we introduce a 6-level "Spectrum of Agentic Autonomy." We advocate for novel evaluation paradigms centered on full-…

- Early-onset autosomal dominant distal renal tubular acidosis caused by a de novo SLC4A1 R589C variant with growth failure and rickets. [Case Reports]CEN Case Rep. 2026 Oct 12; 15(6).CC
- Autosomal dominant (AD) distal renal tubular acidosis (dRTA) generally has a later onset and milder clinical course than autosomal recessive forms. However, delayed diagnosis may result in prolonged metabolic acidosis and severe growth impairment. Here we report the case of a Japanese boy with a de novo SLC4A1 (NM_000342.4):c.1765C > T (p.Arg589Cys) variant who presented with marked growth failur…
