- Optimization of PEI-mediated transient transfection for antibody production in Expi293F cells by iron ion supplementation. [Journal Article]Biochem Biophys Rep. 2026 Dec; 48:102799.BB
- Polyethylenimine (PEI)-mediated transient transfection represents a pivotal methodology for recombinant protein production in HEK293 and derived cell lines. Despite extensive application, substantial potential for enhancement in transfection efficiency and exogenous protein expression persists, with the role of metal ions remaining inadequately characterized. We hypothesized that iron ions exert …

- The effects of dialysate acids and divalent ions on calcification and cardiovascular outcomes: old wisdom and new developments. [Review]Clin Kidney J. 2026 Oct; 19(10):sfag313.CK
- Dialysate calcium (DCa) and magnesium (DMg) and the organic acid used in the acid concentrate have a profound combined influence on intradialytic mineral balance and may influence vascular calcification progression and treatment-related symptoms. Whereas Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes recommends a DCa between 1.25 (DCa 1.25) and 1.50 mmol/l (DCa 1.50), the optimal DCa for an individual…

- A UV-Free Strategy for Vitamin D Synthesis in Skin: Concept Verification and a Randomised Double-Blind Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial of a Cholecalciferol Phosphate Patch (TransVitD). [Journal Article]Br J Dermatol. 2026 Oct 01. [Online ahead of print]BJ
- CONCLUSIONS: A cholecalciferol phosphate patch generated vitamin D in the skin in animals without UV exposure. In humans, the patch was safe but did not improve vitamin D status; the benefit was not greater than approximately 3 ng/mL (300-500 IU/day of oral cholecalciferol).

- The natural variations in chickpea antinutrient profiles influence the bioaccessibility of fat-soluble micronutrients in a test meal. [Journal Article]Food Chem. 2026 Sep 16; 531:151135. [Online ahead of print]FC
- Fat-soluble micronutrients are essential to human health. However, their bioaccessibility may be impaired by pulse "antinutrients" such as phytates, saponins, and tannins. We investigated whether natural variations in chickpea antinutrient profiles could influence fat-soluble micronutrient bioaccessibility in a test meal. Nine chickpea batches with contrasted antinutrient contents were selected, …

- Dose-dependent vitamin D3 supplementation attenuates endothelial dysfunction and renal injury in an obstructive sleep apnea rat model. [Journal Article]Front Pharmacol. 2026; 17:1847011.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: Vitamin D deficiency combined with IH upregulates endothelial dysfunction markers and induces renal tubular injury in an experimental OSA model. High-dose vitamin D3 attenuates these changes dose- and severity-dependently, supporting its role as a pharmacological adjunct for OSA-associated endothelial and renal complications.

- Management of urinary stones by experts in stone disease (ESD 2026). [Journal Article]Arch Ital Urol Androl. 2026 Sep 25; 98(3):15986.AI
- The prevalence of urinary stones range between 1 and 14% in different countries around the world. Men account for approximately 67% of cases, but the gender gap is narrowing over time. A study conducted in the Russian Federation showed that 22.2% of subjects interviewed with a questionnaire reported a history of urolithiasis. Stone formation begins with the urinary crystallization of less soluble…

- Vitamin D Status, Supplementation and Radiographic Healing in Pediatric Both-Bone Forearm Fractures: A Prospective Controlled Study. [Journal Article]J Pediatr Orthop. 2026 Sep 28. [Online ahead of print]JP
- CONCLUSIONS: Vitamin D status appears to influence fracture healing progression in pediatric forearm fractures. Lower vitamin D levels were associated with delayed radiographic healing, while higher-dose supplementation was associated with more favorable healing outcomes. Early identification and correction of vitamin D deficiency may represent a potentially modifiable factor in optimizing pediatric fracture healing.

- Development of a Citrate Reaction Grading and Treatment Chart for Patients Undergoing Leukapheresis Procedures. [Journal Article]J Clin Apher. 2026 Oct; 41(5):e70182.JC
- Calcium supplementation to prevent or treat hypocalcemic symptoms during leukapheresis is not standardized. Institutions vary in practice. Within an institution, there is also nursing variability. Recognizing the need to harmonize our practices, the apheresis nurses at our institution launched a process improvement initiative to develop a standardized Citrate Reaction Grading and Treatment Chart …

- Vitamin D Status and Response to Calcifediol Supplementation in Term and Preterm Infants with Cholestasis. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Vitamin D status in cholestatic infants is highly variable. Cumulative exposure of calcifediol is associated with higher 25OHD concentrations, but heterogeneous responses require monitoring and individualized dose adjustment.

- The Modulatory Role of Vitamin D in the Molecular Mechanisms of Sepsis and Infections with Focus on Viral Pathogenesis: A Narrative Review. [Review]
- Viral infections are a widely recognized cause of mortality. Recently it has been demonstrated that vitamin D plays an important immuno-modulatory role in both innate and adaptive immune responses against infections, by reducing excessive inflammation and enhancing defense mechanisms. Specifically, exacerbation of infections may cause sepsis, characterized by a dysregulated immune response with h…

- Serum 25-Hydroxyvitamin D Status Across Vertebrate Species: A Comparative Review. [Review]
- Vitamin D plays a fundamental role in calcium and phosphate homeostasis, skeletal development, immune regulation, and numerous metabolic processes in both humans and animals. Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] is the accepted biomarker of vitamin D status, but its physiological concentrations vary considerably among animal species due to differences in metabolism, diet, ultraviolet B (UVB) expos…

- Cyp27b1 Deficiency Impairs Ovarian Development Through Disrupted 1,25(OH)2D3 Regulation of Lipid Metabolism and Redox Homeostasis. [Journal Article]FASEB J. 2026 Oct 15; 40(19):e72321.FJ
- Female reproductive disorders are closely associated with ovarian oxidative stress and lipid dysregulation, but the upstream triggers remain poorly defined. In this study, we found that Cyp27b1, a key mitochondrial enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (25(OH)D3) to 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25(OH)2D3), is an important regulator of ovarian lipid homeostasis and redox bala…
