- Transient Osteoporosis of Bilateral Knee Joints in Twin Pregnancy: A Case Report - A Valuable Addition to the Medical Literature. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: Bilateral TO of the knee in pregnancy is an extremely rare clinical entity that should be considered in the differential diagnosis of severe atraumatic knee pain in late pregnancy or the postpartum period. MRI plays a pivotal role in early diagnosis. Conservative management with symptomatic therapy and pharmacological support, including transnasal calcitonin, may provide effective pain relief and functional recovery. Early recognition is essential to prevent complications such as insufficiency fractures.

- On-demand peptide therapeutics for multi-year space exploration: analysis of clinical and operational relevance and recombinant production feasibility. [Journal Article]NPJ Microgravity. 2026 Jul 09. [Online ahead of print]NM
- Future crewed expeditions beyond Earth will span multiple years, requiring a transition away from Earth-dependent pharmaceutical supply chains. Medications degrade more rapidly in space due to radiation exposure and storage constraints, while transporting large quantities of temperature-controlled biologics is logistically impractical. These challenges necessitate the development of self-sufficie…

- Repurposing salmon calcitonin for glioblastoma treatment: Targeting Yes-associated Protein (YAP)/ Transcriptional co‑activator with PDZ‑binding motif (TAZ) via hippo pathway activation. [Journal Article]Neurooncol Adv. 2026; 8(1):vdag152.NA
- CONCLUSIONS: We establish that activation of the sCT-CTR axis suppresses glioma growth by inhibiting YAP/TAZ through Hippo pathway activation. We further delineate the structural aberrations responsible for the functional loss in patient-derived CTR mutants. Thus, we present compelling evidence supporting the therapeutic repurposing of calcitonin for GBM treatment.

- Impact of hydrophobic ion pair type and self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery systems composition on the oral delivery of salmon calcitonin. [Journal Article]J Control Release. 2026 Sep 10; 397:115131.JC
- Salmon calcitonin (sCT) is a peptide with poor enzymatic stability and permeability, limiting its oral delivery. This study investigated how hydrophobic ion pair (HIP) type and self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery systems (SNEDDS) composition influence the oral delivery of sCT, and whether in vitro findings correlate with in vivo outcomes. HIPs were prepared with sodium caprate (C10) or sodium docu…

- Parathyroid adenoma causing hypercalcemic crisis masquerading as acute abdomen in a 7-year-old: a case report. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: PA represents an uncommon yet manageable cause of hypercalcemic crisis in pediatric patients. Timely assessment of serum calcium and PTH levels in individuals presenting with unexplained gastrointestinal symptoms-such as nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain-facilitates swift diagnosis, thereby reducing the need for unnecessary diagnostic procedures like extensive imaging or invasive tests.Surgical resection of the PA is the first-line treatment. Postoperatively, prevention of hungry bone syndrome and long-term follow-up are required.

- Therapeutic subtypes of knee osteoarthritis: differential treatment effects among predicted endotypes in past clinical trials. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This exploratory study suggests the feasibility of predicting KOA endotypes using a minimal panel of tissue-turnover biomarkers. The observed treatment effects of anti-bone resorptive treatments and reduced outcome variability in the structural damage endotype may subtly indicate that aligning treatments with endotypes and drug modes of action can possibly enhance their therapeutic efficacy. Further investigation is needed to establish the true clinical utility of biomarker-based endotyping. Endotype-informed trial design and recruitment may represent a promising strategy to increase the likelihood of success in future KOA clinical trials.

- Revisiting Intranasal Salmon Calcitonin: Historical Osteoporosis Evidence and a Potential Role in Acute Orthopaedic Pain Management. [Review]JBJS Rev. 2026 Apr 01; 14(4).JR
- » Intranasal salmon calcitonin (IN-CAL) is a well-tolerated, noninvasive antiresorptive agent with reproducible pharmacodynamic activity, despite lower systemic bioavailability than parenteral formulations. » In preosteoporotic postmenopausal women, IN-CAL provides small, spine-limited preservation of bone mass, with minimal hip or forearm benefit; treatment response depends more on baseline bone…

- Case Report: A 69-year-old woman with dermatopathic lymphadenopathy and hypercalcemia after COVID-19 infection. [Case Reports]
- A 69-year-old female presented with hypercalcemia, recurrent fever, and lymphadenectasis following COVID-19 infection. Positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET-CT) revealed no suspicious malignancy. Lymph node biopsy from bilateral inguinal areas suggested Langerhans cell histiocytosis, supporting a possible diagnosis of dermatopathic lymphadenitis or rare Langerhans cell histiocytos…

- A thermosensitive hydrogel achieves sustained co-delivery of two therapeutic agents with distinct properties for preventing aseptic loosening. [Journal Article]Biomater Sci. 2026 Apr 21; 14(8):2039-2056.BS
- Wear particle-induced prosthesis aseptic loosening severely affects the longevity of total joint arthroplasty. This condition arises from periprosthetic osteolysis, which is driven by excessive inflammation and enhanced bone resorption under particle stimulation. Herein, we develop an injectable hydrogel-based system co-encapsulating anti-inflammatory emodin (Emo) and anti-osteoporotic salmon cal…

- Weight loss ameliorates symptoms of osteoarthritis and is correlated with alterations in soluble bone and cartilage markers: an analysis of patient-reported outcomes and biomarkers. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Obesity exacerbates OA symptoms. While weight loss improves symptoms and reduces synovial inflammation, measured by biomarkers, it may also heighten the risk of excessive bone and cartilage loss, when using specific collagen degradation biomarkers. This study is a post-hoc analysis of data from the CSMC trials with clinicaltrial.gov numbers NCT00704847 (2008-06-24) and NCT00486434 (2007-06-14).

- Investigating predictors of pain events during trials of knee osteoarthritis: A post-hoc analysis of two phase III trials. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The study identifies female sex and certain medical histories as significant predictors of PEs in knee OA patients. A higher BMI was associated with lower odds of reporting PEs but for those who reported PEs, higher BMI was associated with more severe PEs. These results should be interpreted with caution due to methodological limitations, however the findings indicate risk factors for pain events and suggest further research into these associations.
