- Risk factors and machine learning-based prediction of difficult ureter during retrograde ureteroscopic lithotripsy. [Journal Article]World J Urol. 2026 Oct 06; 44(1).WJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Elevated CRP levels, gout, absence of hydronephrosis, and lack of medical expulsive therapy are important risk factors for difficult ureter during ureteroscopic lithotripsy. Machine learning-based models, particularly artificial neural networks, may provide additional predictive value and serve as decision-support tools for preoperative risk stratification in clinical practice.

- Pyelolymphatic backflow demonstrated on computed tomography urography in acute ureteric obstruction. [Case Reports]BMJ Case Rep. 2026 Oct 06; 19(10).BC
- A man in his early 40s presented with acute right flank pain, vomiting and dysuria. Ultrasonography demonstrated an obstructing right upper ureteric calculus with a contralateral renal calculus. CT urography revealed fine, serpiginous contrast-opacified tubular channels extending from the right renal pelvis into the retroperitoneum without evidence of urinoma. Delayed excretory phase imaging demo…

- Patient awareness and perceptions of a kidney stone multidisciplinary team (MDT): a questionnaire survey. [Journal Article]World J Urol. 2026 Oct 06; 44(1).WJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Among respondents, attitudes toward the kidney stone MDT were generally positive, although these findings should be interpreted in the context of a self-selected, single-centre sample. Baseline understanding of MDT working was limited, highlighting opportunities to improve patient information and communication. Future work should use validated tools, broader multicentre recruitment and objective clinical and patient-reported outcomes to evaluate MDT-based care.

- Preoperative CT-based markers and inflammatory parameters as predictors of failed ureteroscopic access in unstented patients with ureteral stones: a prospective single-center cohort study. [Journal Article]Urolithiasis. 2026 Oct 06; 54(1).U
- Failed ureteroscopic access (FA) in unstented patients remains a significant clinical challenge. We aimed to identify preoperative clinical, laboratory, and CT-based predictors of FA, determine optimal cutoff values, and develop a clinically applicable risk-stratification model. This prospective cohort study enrolled 141 consecutive patients with ureteral stones undergoing unstented ureteroscopy …

- A Case of CHARGE Syndrome With Tooth Eruption Disturbance Caused by Severe Calculus Accumulation. [Case Reports]Spec Care Dentist. 2026 Sep-Oct; 46(5):e70271.SC
- Individuals with disabilities who are unable to maintain oral intake are at high risk of inadequate oral hygiene because of reduced masticatory stimulation and impaired self-cleansing, leading to excessive dental calculus accumulation. However, the effects of this on tooth eruption are poorly understood. Herein, we report the case of an 18-year-old boy with CHARGE syndrome managed with gastrostom…

- Peritoneal loose body: an incidental finding, a challenging diagnosis and multimodal assessment to avoid resections. [Case Reports]BMJ Case Rep. 2026 Oct 05; 19(10).BC
- A man in his early 40s presented with urinary symptoms and was diagnosed with a right ureteric calculus, hydronephrosis and urinary tract infection. A non-contrast CT scan of the kidneys, ureters and bladder revealed an incidental pelvic mass in the rectovesical pouch, initially suspected as a gastrointestinal stromal tumour/fibroma. Multidisciplinary management prioritised cystoscopy-guided doub…

- Body roundness index, frailty, and prevalent self-reported stroke: An exploratory cross-sectional decomposition analysis. [Journal Article]Ann Acad Med Singap. 2026 Sep 07; 55(9):404-414.AA
- CONCLUSIONS: Single-position ECIRS in the prone hipflexed split-leg configuration was feasible for selected patients with complex renal calculi and was associated with earlier stone clearance and shorter perioperative recovery metrics. However, the final SFR after completion of all planned treatments was comparable between groups, and whether this positional configuration confers benefit beyond ECIRS in alternative positions could not be determined from this comparison. Further prospective studies are required to validate these findings.

- Incarcerated inguinoscrotal bladder herniation: A case report highlighting large bladder herniation with intrasaccular calculi. [Case Reports]
- Inguinal herniation of the bladder is a rare urologic occurrence, with intrascrotal bladder herniation containing calculi an exceptionally uncommon presentation. We report a 79-year-old African American man with chronic urinary retention and prior irradiation for prostate cancer who presented with a right inguinal hernia containing the majority of the bladder with intraluminal calculi. Intraopera…

- Mimicking Polycystic Liver Disease: A Case Report of Innumerable Cystic Hepatic Metastases From a Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumour and Diagnostic Role of Endoscopic Ultrasound. [Case Reports]
- Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours (PNETs) are malignant processes and are identified as being the rarest of all pancreatic cancers. Here we present the case of a 62-year-old male with a background of chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) who was investigated over 18 months for progressive hepatic cystic lesions with no known aetiology. Imaging revealed main pancreatic duct dilatation without an ide…

- Comparing the pain relief effectiveness of intravenous magnesium sulfate and ketorolac versus intravenous morphine and ketorolac for kidney stones. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The findings of this study demonstrate that intravenous magnesium sulfate, in combination with ketorolac, is as effective as morphine-based regimens in managing acute renal colic pain. Given the current global health policies emphasizing opioid stewardship and the reduction of opioid-related adverse effects, magnesium sulfate emerges as a valuable, low-risk alternative. Its incorporation into emergency pain management protocols may not only reduce opioid dependency and misuse but also align with broader public health goals aimed at promoting safer and more sustainable pain relief strategies. Health policymakers should consider including non-opioid analgesics like magnesium sulfate in national and institutional guidelines for acute pain management, especially in settings where opioid overuse presents a clinical and social challenge.

- Pembrolizumab-Associated Immune-Related Cystitis Mimicking Urothelial Malignancy as Part of a Multi-organ Immune-Related Adverse Event (irAE) Phenotype in a Patient With Metastatic Squamous Cell Lung Cancer: A Case Report and Literature Review. [Case Reports]
- Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have revolutionized the treatment of metastatic non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) but can cause a broad spectrum of immune-related adverse events (irAEs) affecting multiple organ systems. Although common irAEs are well characterized, immune-related cystitis is rare and may pose a significant diagnostic challenge, particularly when urine cytology demonstrates a…

- Novel insights into the role of the renal interstitial microenvironment in Randall's plaque formation (Review). [Review]
- Randall's plaque (RP) consists of subepithelial hydroxyapatite (HAP) deposits within renal papillae and provides a well‑established attachment substrate for a subset of idiopathic calcium oxalate (CaOx) kidney stones. However, RP has traditionally been viewed as a passive mineral surface onto which crystals accrete, with comparatively less focus on the cellular and molecular events that build the…

- BACKGROUND Thyrotoxicosis is associated with well-recognized and clinically significant complications, including congestive heart failure and cardiac arrhythmias. The relationship between hyperthyroidism and hepatic dysfunction is complex, with several proposed pathophysiological mechanisms; however, direct cholestatic injury is frequently overlooked. Although mild liver enzyme elevation is commo…
