- Seasonal rhythm of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D in a tropical monsoon climate: Evidence for behavioral modulation of a seasonal biological marker. [Journal Article]Chronobiol Int. 2026 Jul 28; :1-9. [Online ahead of print]CI
- Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] exhibits a seasonal pattern in temperate populations, typically peaking in late summer and declining in winter. It is still not clear whether this pattern also exists in tropical monsoon climates. To characterize the annual pattern of 25(OH)D in a tropical megacity and identify environmental synchronizers of its seasonal variation, a laboratory-based retrospect…

- The role of remote care for continuing opioid use disorder treatment during natural disasters. [Journal Article]J Subst Use Addict Treat. 2026 Jul 28; :210077. [Online ahead of print]JS
- CONCLUSIONS: Findings demonstrate that smaller, fast-onset disasters warrant greater attention in disaster preparedness planning for behavioral health systems. Strengthening telehealth access and embedding flexibility into OUD treatment models may enhance resilience for both patients and providers as climate change increases the frequency of localized hazard events.

- Experiential avoidance moderates improvement in affect through a CBT-focused ecological momentary intervention. [Journal Article]J Affect Disord. 2026 Jul 28; 414:122324. [Online ahead of print]JA
- CONCLUSIONS: There is preliminary evidence that CBT-based interventions may be associated with greater within-episode improvements in affect among individuals high in experiential avoidance following psychiatric hospitalization. Targeting avoidance-related processes via interventions that include digital components may offer preliminary affective benefits for high-risk clinical populations.

- Curcumin Attenuates Bisphenol F-Induced Osteoporosis and Osteogenic Dysfunction via PI3K/AKT Pathway Activation. [Journal Article]Nutrients. 2026 Jul 16; 18(14).N
- Background: Bisphenol F (BPF), a widely used bisphenol A substitute and emerging endocrine disruptor, has been implicated in bone loss; however, its underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Curcumin (CUR) has shown beneficial effects on bone metabolism, but its protective role against BPF-induced osteogenic impairment requires further validation. This study investigated the involvement of the PI3K/A…

- Phase-Specific Variations in Lower-Limb Muscle Strength Across the Menstrual Cycle in Female Soccer Players. [Journal Article]Sports (Basel). 2026 Jun 23; 14(7).S
- Fluctuations in ovarian hormones across the menstrual cycle (MC) have been suggested to influence neuromuscular performance in female athletes. However, phase-specific variations in lower-limb muscle strength remain underexplored, particularly within the soccer population. This study investigated phase-related differences in lower-limb muscle strength across MC phases in female soccer players. A …

- Comparative evaluation of the aggregate index of systemic inflammation (AISI) and its modified version for early detection of central line-associated bloodstream infection: a pilot study using machine learning techniques. [Journal Article]GMS Hyg Infect Control. 2026; 21:Doc52.GH
- CONCLUSIONS: Both AISI and modified AISI demonstrated strong predictive value for early CLABSI detection, being both accessible and cost-effective. Modified AISI outperformed AISI in predictive performance. These findings support the need for the prospective validation of the modified AISI before clinical implementation.

- Genomic and lipidomic analysis reveals lipid mediation of genetic risk in gestational diabetes. [Journal Article]BMC Med. 2026 Jul 21. [Online ahead of print]BM
- CONCLUSIONS: Genes involved in lipid metabolism are associated with GDM susceptibility. Lipids potentially mediate the genetic risk of GDM, and lipid biomarkers showed potential for improving predictive performance. These findings require further validation in independent cohorts.

- Objective: To analyze the clinical characteristics of breast cancer susceptibility gene (BRCA) germline mutation carriers with ovarian cancer, collect family history information, screen for potential BRCA mutation carriers among family members, and provide preventive guidance for high-risk populations of ovarian cancer. Methods: A total of 77 patients with ovarian cancer (including fallopian tube…

- An epigenetic speedometer to measure Pace of Aging: FraminghamPACE. [Journal Article]medRxiv. 2026 Jul 16.M
- Geroscience clinical trials need biomarker surrogate endpoints for healthspan. Leading candidates are omics-based composites developed from machine learning analysis of aging phenotypes including calendar age, survival, functional capacity, and Pace of Aging. Existing Pace of Aging biomarkers were developed in the Dunedin Longitudinal Study, limiting inference about the strengths and weaknesses o…

- Prevalence and associated factors of intestinal parasitic infections among preschool children in West Badawacho Woreda, Hadiya, Central Ethiopia: a community-based cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]BMC Pediatr. 2026 Jul 14. [Online ahead of print]BPed
- CONCLUSIONS: A high prevalence of intestinal parasitic infections (IPIs) was reported in West Badawacho Woreda in preschool children, indicating a significant public health problem in the region. Poor hygiene and unsafe water sources, open defecation, and zoonotic exposure were among the factors that were identified as key factors in infection, while greater maternal education was protective. This burden can be mitigated by increasing the capacity and outreach of community health education, upgrading sanitation facilities, increasing the availability of potable water and raising awareness about personal hygiene. Importantly, this study has important community-level information regarding IPIs in preschool children in West Badawacho Woreda for future interventions and planning policies.

- A machine learning approach to identify key socio-economic and demographic factors associated with neonatal mortality in Ethiopia. [Journal Article]BMC Public Health. 2026 Jul 14. [Online ahead of print]BP
- CONCLUSIONS: This study identified key socio-economic and demographic determinants of neonatal mortality in Ethiopia including maternal education, household characteristics, and obstetric factors. Addressing these interrelated factors through comprehensive strategies involving education, economic empowerment, family planning, and improved obstetric care is important for reducing neonatal mortality and achieving child health goals.

- Association between long-term exposure to environmental coarse particulate matter and the prevalence of thyroid disorders: a cross-sectional study in China. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Long-term PM10 exposure was associated with higher odds of overt hypothyroidism, subclinical hypothyroidism, autoimmune thyroiditis, and TgAb positivity among Chinese adults. These findings suggest that coarse particulate pollution may be a modifiable environmental factor related to hypothyroidism and thyroid autoimmunity.

- Unintended pregnancy is an unplanned or unwanted at conception. It carries significant social, emotional, and health consequences for women, families and communities. In Ethiopia, approximately one-third of married women report that their pregnancies are an unintended. Despite this burden, evidence on contributing factors remains limited, particularly in Lemi Kura sub city. This study, aimed to i…

- Family planning service receipt during facility visits in Ethiopia: Evidence from the 2021-2022 service provision assessment survey. [Journal Article]PLoS One. 2026; 21(7):e0352145.Plos
- CONCLUSIONS: Family planning service receipt during facility visits in Ethiopia is associated with prior client-provider contact, marital status, and regional context. The persistence of regional differences after adjustment indicates that contextual factors related to health system performance and service delivery environments play a role in shaping service delivery during clinical encounters. The findings indicate heterogeneity in service delivery at the point of care, suggesting the need for context-specific strategies to improve the consistency and quality of family planning services within health facilities.
