  • Safety of caffeine citrate in neonates with Congenital Heart Disease receiving continuous infusions of alprostadil. [Review]
Cardiol Young. 2026 Jul; 36(7):1323-1328.Mace SL, Kelly BJ, … Narasimhulu SSCY
  • Neonates with ductal-dependent congenital heart disease (CHD) will receive a continuous infusion of a prostaglandin E1 analogue such as alprostadil prior to surgical correction. Alprostadil can cause apnoea, which may be mitigated in practice with the use of caffeine citrate. Caffeine citrate can lead to tachyarrhythmias, which could be detrimental in this patient population. The purpose of this …
  • Integrated pregnancy and perinatal management of complex fetal congenital heart disease: a preliminary retrospective study. [Journal Article]
    BMC Pregnancy Childbirth. 2026 Jul 17; 26(1).Junshu X, Fufen Y, … Xiaohong ZBP
  • CONCLUSIONS: Pregnancies involving fetuses with complex CHD should avoid preterm birth whenever possible. Complex fetal CHD alone is not an indication for cesarean delivery; the delivery mode should instead be determined by standard obstetric considerations, and individualized management may be adopted according to their opinions and preferences. When both maternal and fetal status remain stable, scheduling delivery at or beyond 39 weeks may be considered. Newborns who present with low postnatal oxygen saturation should receive prostaglandin to keep the ductus arteriosus open, followed by urgent transfer to pediatric cardiac surgery for definitive management. Coordinated, multidisciplinary care supports favorable clinical outcomes.

Common substances used include methamphetamine, gamma-hydroxybutyric acid/gamma-butyrolactone (GHB/GBL), mephedrone, ketamine, inhaled nitrites ('poppers'), and cocaine, all of which are linked to various dermatological compli…
  • Prostaglandin Administration and Outcomes in Children on Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation. [Journal Article]
World J Pediatr Congenit Heart Surg. 2026 Jun 29; :21501351261453052. [Online ahead of print]Xiao W, Aldairi N, … Karam OWJ
  • ObjectivesExtracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) is associated with high risks of bleeding and clotting. While traditional anticoagulants like heparin and bivalirudin target the coagulation cascade, prostaglandins including PGE1 and PGI2 may offer adjunctive platelet inhibition. This study evaluated whether prostaglandin use modifies the risk of severe bleeding or clotting events in pediatric…
  • Retiform purpura and blue toe: an unusual presentation of systemic lupus erythematosus. [Case Reports]
Clin Rheumatol. 2026 Aug; 45(8):5105-5112.Ribero Vargas DA, Ayala Monroy GA, … Ríos Díaz EJCR
  • Retiform purpura (RP) is a morphological pattern of cutaneous ischemia resulting from vascular compromise. Its clinical relevance lies in its orientation toward vasculitis or thrombotic vasculopathy. We report the case of a woman with painful violaceous retiform lesions on the distal lower extremities, Raynaud's phenomenon with a "blue toe" on the hand, and polyarthralgias. Laboratory workup reve…
