- Neuroprotective and Neuromodulatory Potential of Valeriana officinalis, Passiflora incarnata, and Ginkgo biloba: Efficacy, Safety, and Regulatory Aspects. [Review]Plants (Basel). 2026 Sep 02; 15(17).P
- Valerian (Valeriana officinalis L.), passionflower (Passiflora incarnata L.), and ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba L.) are among the most widely used medicinal plants in European phytotherapy, with well-documented traditional use for anxiety, insomnia, cognitive decline, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and Parkinson's disease. This narrative review critically analyses available clinical, ph…

- Thermoluminescence-Based Detection of Irradiation in Valerian Root (Valeriana officinalis) Dietary Supplements: A Pilot Study on Undeclared Treatment and Labelling Compliance. [Journal Article]Molecules. 2026 Aug 28; 31(17).M
- CONCLUSIONS: Given the pilot nature of the study and the limited, non-random sample, the results should be treated as a premise for further analysis rather than as a basis for generalizing to the entire market. The results of this study indicate a need for broader analytical monitoring and targeted control of dietary supplements containing plant raw materials.

- Valproic acid inhibits glutamine uptake to induce ferroptosis in triple-negative breast cancer. [Journal Article]Cell Signal. 2026 Sep 13; 149:112890. [Online ahead of print]CS
- CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates that VPA exerts anti-TNBC effects by downregulating ASCT2, triggering a glutamine uptake crisis, and consequently inducing ferroptosis. This study unveils a novel mechanism of VPA through targeting glutamine metabolism and suggests its potential as a therapeutic strategy for TNBC by exploiting metabolic vulnerability.

- Comparative outcomes of minimally invasive versus open transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion for low-grade lumbar spondylolisthesis: A systematic review and meta-analysis. [Review]J Clin Orthop Trauma. 2026 Nov; 82:103600.JC
- CONCLUSIONS: MIS-TLIF appears to offer perioperative advantages over open TLIF in low-grade lumbar spondylolisthesis, while longer-term patient-reported outcomes are clinically comparable, any between-group differences remaining below MCID thresholds. Given the very low certainty of evidence across all outcomes under GRADE and the predominance of observational data at moderate-to-serious risk of bias, the choice of surgical approach should be individualized.

- Rational Use of Herbal Products in Pediatric Patients Treated With Anticancer Drugs in the European Union. [Journal Article]Pediatr Blood Cancer. 2026 Sep; 73(9):e70459.PB
- CONCLUSIONS: Some medicinal plants may be cautiously considered in pediatric oncology, but the risks of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic interactions are substantial. This study proposes a shortlist of plants that may be considered and HMPs with potentially good benefit-risk ratios. These findings should not be interpreted as therapeutic recommendations.

- The origins and evolution of the RNA virome in land flora. [Journal Article]
- The colonization of land by plants was a major transition in the history of life, fundamentally reshaping the evolution of terrestrial organisms and Earth's ecosystems. Plants are hosts to an enormous diversity of viruses, but the origins and evolution of these viruses are not thoroughly understood. In this study, we mined the transcriptomes and genomes of 2402 species sampled across the plant ki…

- Combined effects of an ointment comprising Eisenia fetida oil, Valeriana officinalis, and zinc oxide nanoparticles on healing in a rat model of second-degree burns. [Journal Article]Burns. 2026 Nov; 52(8):108140.B
- Burns are one of the most devastating traumatic injuries, and in cases of advanced burns, patients require urgent and specialized care to minimize mortality. Studies have shown that a variety of herbal medicines and nanoparticles can be used to treat burn wounds. Among them mixture of Eisenia fetida oil, valerian, and zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles can be a good choice due to their healing proper…

- Chemotypic diversity and neuroactive potential of Valeriana jatamansi Jones: a systematic review on phytochemistry, pharmacology and standardisation challenges. [Review]Nat Prod Res. 2026 Jul 13; :1-15. [Online ahead of print]NP
- Valeriana jatamansi (Indian valerian), a vital but endangered Himalayan plant, exhibits extreme chemical heterogeneity that undermines its clinical reliability and current pharmacopoeial standards. This systematic review (1979-May 2026; 312 studies) delineates five distinct chemotypes (OPLS-DA > 92%) defined by compositional extremes of patchouli alcohol (0.4-63.7%), maaliol (2.9-53.8%), valepotr…

- Characteristics and Stability of Valerian Essential Oil Nanoemulsion: A Comparison Between Ultrasonication and Microfluidization. [Journal Article]
- Nanoemulsions are increasingly recognized as promising delivery systems for essential oils in functional products due to their ability to protect sensitive bioactives. Valerian essential oil (VEO) contains valuable bioactives with notable functional properties; however, its volatility and instability limit its direct incorporation into aqueous environments. This study investigated the preparation…
