- The IL-17A/TNFSF10 axis promotes vulvovaginal candidiasis pathogenesis by inducing neutrophil necroptosis. [Journal Article]Front Cell Infect Microbiol. 2026; 16:1910964.FC
- Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) is a common infection of the female reproductive tract and is closely associated with dysregulated mucosal immunity. This study investigated how IL-17A/TNFSF10 signaling regulates neutrophil death and VVC progression.

- Protein density, carbohydrate quality, and frailty-state transitions among adults aged 50 years or older: a continuous-time multistate analysis of the health and retirement study. [Journal Article]Front Nutr. 2026; 13:1926576.FN
- CONCLUSIONS: After comprehensive adjustment, a higher study-specific score was associated with lower robust-to-pre-frail and pre-frail-to-death intensities, but evidence for other transitions was inconclusive. The score remains unvalidated, and these findings do not establish a causal effect of diet on frailty transitions.

- Screening of natural compounds library for protection against endoplasmic reticulum stress in corneal endothelial cells. [Journal Article]Front Ophthalmol (Lausanne). 2026; 6:1945775.FO
- CONCLUSIONS: This study provided insight into the role of natural compounds in regulating ER stress-mediated CEnC death associated with many corneal endothelial-associated diseases. Veratrine was found to have a protective effect on ER-stressed CEnCs, as indicated by reduced apoptotic signals and ER stress markers following veratrine treatment, suggesting a possible mechanism of action via mediating ER stress signals. Future studies are needed to clarify the mechanism and utility of veratrine in FECD.

- ZBP1 contributes to IFN-β-induced PANoptosis-related skeletal muscle cell injury in dermatomyositis. [Journal Article]Front Immunol. 2026; 17:1955536.FI
- CONCLUSIONS: This study identified four candidate core PANoptosis-related genes associated with DM and developed a four-gene PRS model with strong discriminatory performance for distinguishing DM samples from controls. Mechanistically, ZBP1 may contribute to IFN-β-induced PANoptosis-like injury in HSkMCs by facilitating its association with RIPK3, caspase-8, and caspase-6. Baicalin may protect HSkMCs by directly binding to ZBP1 and attenuating these PANoptosis-associated protein interactions.

- Post-induction residual time: a novel sensing phenomenon during induced ventricular fibrillation in subcutaneous ICD recipients. [Journal Article]Front Cardiovasc Med. 2026; 13:1949877.FC
- CONCLUSIONS: In this case series, spontaneous ventricular arrhythmic events in S-ICD patients demonstrated shorter sensing and therapy delivery times compared with induced ventricular fibrillation episodes. A measurable Post-Induction Residual Time (PRT) was identified in all induced episodes and was absent during spontaneous ventricular arrhythmias, suggesting that 50-Hz-induced VF may not fully reproduce spontaneous arrhythmic events from the perspective of device sensing performance. These findings support the hypothesis that part of the delay observed during implant testing may be related to the induction process itself rather than to the intrinsic sensing capabilities of the S-ICD. Further studies are warranted to confirm these observations and to evaluate alternative VF induction strategies in future device platforms. Future integration of S-ICD systems with leadless pacing technologies may provide alternative ventricular fibrillation induction strategies, including T-wave shock delivery during either sensed intrinsic rhythm or leadless-paced rhythm. Such approaches could potentially avoid the occurrence of Post-Induction Residual Time (PRT) and may provide a model that more closely reproduces spontaneous ventricular fibrillation than current 50-Hz induction techniques.

- Development and internal-external validation of an interpretable machine learning model integrating clinical and polygenic predictors for coronary artery disease: a multicenter retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]Front Cardiovasc Med. 2026; 13:1936899.FC
- CONCLUSIONS: The PRS was independently associated with incident CAD. Integration with clinical variables yielded a modest, statistically uncertain improvement in discrimination and satisfactory calibration during internal-external validation. External validation is required before clinical implementation.

- Aggregation and analysis of 25 years of prion disease natural history extracted from published literature. [Journal Article]medRxiv. 2026 Aug 10.M
- Prion disease is an untreatable, typically rapidly progressive dementia. New drug candidates designed to lower prion protein are now entering clinical trials. To support future pivotal trials, we sought to assemble and analyze a public dataset of natural history data characterizing the symptomatic course of prion disease in order to provide a quantitative basis for modelling and rational trial de…

- Regulated apoptosis is a conserved mechanism pausing female reproduction and contributes to establishing the sterile worker caste in the eusocial wasp, Polistes. [Journal Article]J Exp Biol. 2026 Oct 09. [Online ahead of print]JE
- Female reproduction is an energetically expensive process, so species evolve to balance survival with reproductive output. Many female organisms can temporarily pause their reproduction, including egg development, in response to physiological stress. The cellular mechanisms initiating and maintaining a stress-induced pause in oogenesis have been most extensively studied in Drosophila melanogaster…

- Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a cause of severe lower respiratory tract infections in infants, and it is associated with substantial morbidity, including hospitalization and death. After European Medicine Agency approval of nirsevimab, a monoclonal antibody against RSV, immunization campaigns have been implemented in several European Union countries for administration to children as preven…

- Estimated small dense low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and incident myocardial infarction in patients undergoing dialysis: a nationwide cohort study. [Journal Article]Ann Med. 2026 Dec; 58(1):2745096.AM
- CONCLUSIONS: Among patients undergoing long-term dialysis, E-sdLDL-C was associated with incident myocardial infarction after multivariable adjustment, whereas no significant association was observed with ischemic stroke. These findings support the potential relevance of E-sdLDL-C for myocardial infarction risk assessment in patients with ESKD, although its clinical utility requires further validation.

- Association between early-life farming exposure and Alzheimer's disease neuropathological burden. [Journal Article]Alzheimers Dement. 2026 Oct; 22(10):e71904.AD
- CONCLUSIONS: Findings suggest exposure to farming early in life is linked to increased levels of AD neuropathology. Deeper occupational and residential phenotyping is needed to identify the potential multiple, overlapping risk pathways, which may include cumulative and sensitive life stage exposure to chemical toxicants, hearing loss, and psychosocial hazards.
