- Human norovirus infection does not induce serotonin secretion in human intestinal organoids. [Journal Article]J Virol. 2026 Oct 05; :e0083326. [Online ahead of print]JV
- Human noroviruses (HuNoVs) are a leading cause of acute gastroenteritis worldwide. The primary symptoms of HuNoV-associated disease are vomiting and diarrhea; yet the mechanisms underlying these symptoms are poorly understood. Neuroactive hormones such as serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine; 5-HT) secreted by intestinal enteroendocrine cells (EECs) can activate vomiting centers in the brain and play a…

- Changing clinical presentation of pediatric celiac disease over time. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The clinical profile of pediatric CD appears to be evolving, with a significant decline in classical symptoms - especially chronic diarrhea and abdominal distension, alongside numerical (non-significant) trends toward increased non-classical manifestations such as constipation and isolated short stature. Awareness of these evolving presentations, including non-classical and screen-detected diseases, is essential for early diagnosis and prevention of long-term complications.

- Clinical Characteristics, Diagnostic Challenges, and Therapeutic Outcomes in Non-eosinophilic Esophagitis Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Diseases in Comparison with Eosinophilic Esophagitis. [Journal Article]Iran J Allergy Asthma Immunol. 2026 Aug 12; 25(Sup 11):65-77.IJ
- Eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases (EGIDs) are chronic, TH2-mediated conditions. Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is the most common type, while non-EoE EGIDs affect other gut segments. This retrospective study of 111 patients (50 EoE and 61 non-EoE) from 2011 to 2022 compared the clinical aspects of these 2 types. Dysphagia and food impaction dominated in EoE, while abdominal pain, nausea, and…

- Association between oral ulcerative lesions, oral infections, and fever during the pre-engraftment phase after hematopoietic cell transplantation: results from the Orastem study. [Multicenter Study]
- CONCLUSIONS: Fever was common during the pre-engraftment phase after HCT and significantly associated with the extent of oral ulcerations. In contrast, pre-HCT dental and oral conditions showed no association with post-HCT fever, highlighting the specific role of mucosal injury in febrile episodes.

- Composite pheochromocytoma-ganglioneuroma secreting vasoactive intestinal peptide. [Journal Article]Endocrinol Diabetes Metab Case Rep. 2026 Oct 01; 2026(4).ED
- CONCLUSIONS: An 80-year-old female patient presented with a 10-year history of progressively worsening diarrhea and chronic hyponatremia. An abdominal computed tomography (CT) revealed a 6.8-centimeter right adrenal mass. A Ga-68 DOTATATE positron emission tomography (PET)/CT scan subsequently demonstrated a significant expression of somatostatin receptors on the tumoral shell (maximal SUV of 14.4), associated with a hypometabolic central portion. Endocrine investigation indicated elevated levels of both urinary and plasmatic normetanephrines. Given the watery diarrhea, VIP levels were measured, which were markedly elevated. Surgical resection confirmed a composite pheochromocytoma-ganglioneuroma with VIP immunoreactivity in both tumor components. In the postoperative period, the plasma levels of VIP and normetanephrines returned to normal with resolution of diarrhea, hyponatremia, and hypertension. This case illustrates a rare instance of composite pheochromocytoma-ganglioneuroma with co-secretion of catecholamines and VIP, with evidence of VIP production in both tumor components. The finding of VIP secretion in the pheochromocytoma and the ganglioneuroma suggests that both tumors might originate from the same cell of neural crest origin.

- S100B in brain-gut-liver crosstalk: from glial activation to multiorgan inflammation. [Review]
- S100 calcium-binding protein B (S100B) is conventionally viewed as a marker of astrocytic injury, blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption, and neurological disorders. Emerging evidence places S100B within the broader brain-gut-liver axis of inflammatory signaling. This review proposes that S100B is a glial-derived integrating effector that couples enteric glial activation, barrier dysfunction, hepat…

- Nintedanib-Associated Generalized Body Swelling in a Patient With Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis: A Case Report. [Case Reports]
- Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a chronic, progressive fibrosing interstitial lung disease with a poor prognosis, carrying a median survival of two to three years without antifibrotic therapy. Nintedanib, an oral intracellular tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) targeting vascular endothelial growth factor receptors (VEGFRs 1-3), platelet-derived growth factor receptor (PDGFR)-α/β, and fibroblast gr…

- Multidisciplinary management of Whipple's disease complicated with rectal stenosis from multidisciplinary nursing management: A case study. [Case Reports]
- Whipple's disease (WD) is a rare, chronic systemic disorder caused by Tropheryma whipplei (T. whipplei), a bacterium belonging to the Actinobacteria phylum. Clinical manifestations of WD include weight loss, diarrhea, and arthralgia. To date, no cases of rectal stenosis caused by T. whipplei infection have been reported in the literature. This paper presents a case of rectal stenosis associated w…

- Cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated protein 4 (CTLA4) haploinsufficiency with autoimmune infiltration (CHAI) is an autosomal dominant condition featuring both immunodeficiency and autoimmunity. We describe the first published mainland Chinese patient harboring the heterozygous CTLA4 c.529dupT frameshift variant. While multiple CHAI cases have been documented in mainland China, this specific variant…

- Case Report: Six infants with primary intestinal lymphangiectasia: clinical manifestations of refractory cases and preliminary stratified clinical management experience. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: Clinical manifestations vary greatly among infants with PIL. The concurrent occurrence of serous cavity effusion, serum albumin < 20 g/L and hypocalcemic convulsions is a prominent clinical feature unique to refractory cases in this small sample. We shared preliminary stratified clinical management experience based on our single-center observation, and further large-sample multicenter studies are needed to verify our findings.

- Probable everolimus-associated severe colitis with hematochezia in a patient with metastatic hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer: a case report. [Case Reports]Front Pharmacol. 2026; 17:1871050.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: Probable everolimus-associated severe colitis should be considered when patients receiving mTOR inhibitors develop acute abdominal pain, diarrhea, or gastrointestinal bleeding. Because histopathological findings may be non-specific, diagnosis requires integration of drug exposure, objective evidence of intestinal inflammation, careful exclusion of competing etiologies, and clinical evolution following withdrawal of the suspected agent.

- Post-Pyloric Enteral Immunoglobulin for Treatment of Chronic Norovirus Diarrhea in Solid Organ Transplant Recipients: A Single Center Retrospective Study. [Journal Article]Transpl Infect Dis. 2026 Sep 30; :e70330. [Online ahead of print]TI
- CONCLUSIONS: Our small size and single-center study suggests that enteral Ig given via a nasoduodenal tube may be further evaluated as a potential approach for chronic norovirus infection in SOTRs. Large randomized controlled trials with symptom diaries to assess time to resolution more accurately, and serial stool nucleic acid testing, will be needed for confirmation.
