- In vitro pharmacological evaluation of the safety and antibacterial efficacy of a Chilean honey hydrogel for veterinary wound applications. [Journal Article]
- Honey-based biomaterials have gained increasing interest as topical strategies for wound-related applications because of their antimicrobial, antioxidant, and tissue-supportive properties. However, the direct use of raw honey is limited by its viscosity, variability, and lack of standardized delivery systems. This study aimed to perform a preliminary in vitro pharmacological evaluation of a Chile…

- Increased Risk of Periprosthetic Joint Infection Following Aseptic Revision Hip and Knee Arthroplasty With the Use of Non-Cefazolin Alternative Antibiotics. [Journal Article]J Arthroplasty. 2026 Sep 21. [Online ahead of print]JA
- CONCLUSIONS: Perioperative cefazolin prophylaxis is a critical modifiable risk factor, providing a substantial protective effect against PJI in aseptic revision TJA. In contrast, extended oral antibiotic prophylaxis provided no additional benefit for culture-negative patients. While UPCs occurred in 4% of cases, only one case subsequently developed PJI with a concordant microorganism. These findings reinforce the importance of standardized cefazolin prophylaxis over alternative agents in aseptic revision TJA.

- Hybrid photoelectrocatalytic advanced oxidation systems for pharmaceutical wastewater treatment: mechanisms, reactive species, operational parameters, toxicity assessment and real wastewater treatment. [Review]
- Pharmaceutical micropollutants are persistent contaminants of aquatic systems, with a global survey of 258 rivers across 74 countries detecting pharmaceutical residues on every continent and 25% of sampling sites exceeding safe ecological thresholds. Conventional wastewater treatment provides incomplete removal, necessitating intensified technologies. This review critically evaluates hybrid photo…

- Haemophilus parainfluenzae as a Causative Organism in Periprosthetic Joint Infection: A Case Report. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Due to increasing resistance in this species worldwide, consideration should be taken when choosing antimicrobial therapy for H. parainfluenzae. From the limited data available, patients with PJI secondary to H. parainfluenzae have a better prognosis compared to PJI with other Gram-negative organisms.

- Cefadroxil-associated cholestatic liver injury presenting as vanishing bile duct syndrome: a case report. [Case Reports]Front Med (Lausanne). 2026; 13:1866580.FM
- CONCLUSIONS: Cefadroxil-associated VBDS appears to be a rare manifestation of cholestatic drug-induced liver injury. Clinicians should consider this diagnosis in patients who develop persistent jaundice and pruritus after antibiotic exposure, particularly when imaging is normal and competing causes have been excluded. Early recognition, drug withdrawal, close biochemical follow-up, and timely biopsy in persistent cases are essential to avoid delayed diagnosis of this potentially severe condition.

- Cefadroxil as Oral Transitional Therapy for Gram-Positive Bacteremia With or Without Non-Vertebral Osteomyelitis: A Multicenter Retrospective Cohort Study. [Clinical Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: We found similar outcomes for cefadroxil and IV or PO alternatives in patients with GPC BSI, absent endocarditis, vertebral osteomyelitis, prosthetic or central nervous system infection. Cefadroxil was well-tolerated without observed severe adverse events.

- Synergy between orally bioavailable antibiotics and dalbavancin against MRSA. [Journal Article]J Antimicrob Chemother. 2026 Aug 04; 81(9).JA
- CONCLUSIONS: Cefadroxil is a first-generation cephalosporin, like cephalexin, but with a longer half-life that allows for a typical 12-h dosing interval. In our study, we found that synergy between cefadroxil and dalbavancin was common regardless of susceptibility to cefadroxil or dalbavancin, suggesting that this might be a promising companion agent to add to dalbavancin in patients with deep-seated infections that may benefit from synergistic activity to enhance bactericidal effects. Trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole and moxifloxacin may improve activity and are unlikely to be antagonistic. Clarithromycin and doxycycline seem least likely to offer a benefit.

- Unlocking biomedical potential of eco-friendly polyhydroxyurethane hydrogel: controlled release of cefadroxil antibiotic. [Journal Article]J Biomater Sci Polym Ed. 2026 Aug 04; :1-20. [Online ahead of print]JB
- Polyurethane (PU) hydrogels have been conventionally synthesized using the polyaddition of toxic polyisocyanates with polyols in organic solvents or in bulk, then swelling them in water. In this research work, a previously reported fructose-derived polyhydroxyurethane /poly(sodium acrylate) hydrogel synthesized through a catalyst-free non-isocyanate aqueous route was investigated as a smart pH-re…

- Incidence of toxigenic Bacillus cereus in ready-to-eat fermented foods in Osogbo, Nigeria: a potential health risk. [Journal Article]BMC Microbiol. 2026 Jul 13. [Online ahead of print]BM
- Bacillus cereus (B. cereus) is one of several foodborne pathogens that continue to threaten the safety of ready-to-eat (RTE) foods, including fermented foods. A few studies have identified the presence of enterotoxigenic gene-encoding B. cereus in several southwestern states of Nigeria. However, Osun State remains the only southwestern state without data on the potential presence of enterotoxigen…

- Getting It Right the Second Time: How Can we Optimize First-Generation Cephalosporin Dosing for Skin and Soft Tissue Infections in the 21st Century? [Review]Pharmacotherapy. 2026 Jul; 46(7):e70179.P
- Optimal cephalexin and cefadroxil dosing for skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) is unclear. We summarize clinical and pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) data that compare dosing strategies for SSTIs. Additionally, we conduct population PK target attainment simulations for varying doses of cephalexin and cefadroxil for Staphylococcus aureus and Group A Streptococcus. Although some clinic…
