- Cutaneous tumbu fly myiasis in a returning child traveller and a novel EMLA-assisted extraction technique in paediatric emergency care. [Case Reports]BMJ Case Rep. 2026 Oct 05; 19(10).BC
- Myiasis is a parasitic infestation caused by dipterous larvae and is an important diagnostic consideration in travellers returning from endemic regions with infected skin lesions. Paediatric cases present unique management challenges, particularly when invasive procedures or general anaesthesia are considered. We report a case of cutaneous myiasis with associated cellulitis in a toddler following…

- Motivation Profiles Towards Academic Reading, Substance-Related and Problematic Behaviors in Future Teachers. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Academic reading motivation profiles were associated with various screening indicators for substance use and problematic behaviors. Given the cross-sectional and self-report nature of the study, these findings should not be interpreted in terms of causality. The results highlight the potential value of jointly considering academic motivation and health-related behavioral indicators in future teacher training.

- The impact of systemic redistribution on cutaneous pharmacokinetic-based bioequivalence: An in vivo dermal open flow microperfusion study for lidocaine and prilocaine. [Journal Article]Eur J Pharm Sci. 2026 Sep 23; 227:107673. [Online ahead of print]EJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Systemic redistribution was negligible and did not alter the BE assessment. dOFM and dMD showed comparable PK profile characteristics, supporting the potential utility of both dOFM and dMD for characterizing the dermal PK of moderately lipophilic, protein-bound topical drugs under standardized study conditions.

- Procedural Optimization of Capsaicin 8% Patch Therapy Using Ultrasound-Guided Bilateral Ankle Nerve Block in Painful Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy: A Retrospective Comparative Cohort Study. [Journal Article]
- Background: Application of the capsaicin 8% patch is commonly associated with treatment-related burning pain, which may necessitate rescue analgesia, compromise completion of the standardized 60 min application, and reduce acceptance of repeat treatment. Although capsaicin is an established therapy for painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy (PDPN), evidence supporting strategies to improve proced…

- Enhanced Pain Management With Combined EMLA Patch and Local Anesthetic Infiltration in Transradial Angiography. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Combined EMLA patch plus local lidocaine infiltration was associated with superior analgesia during and after transradial coronary angiography compared with either method alone. An EMLA application time of 100-300 min may optimize analgesic effectiveness, while patients with obesity may benefit from tailored pain-management strategies.

- Local anesthetic techniques for analgesia in neonatal circumcision: a network meta-analysis. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Evidence supports local anesthetic techniques for neonatal circumcision, with nerve blocks providing greater benefit than topical anesthetics. However, given the small sample sizes and low certainty of evidence, higher-quality trials are needed.

- Comparative Evaluation of Pain Perception Following Topical Application of Clove Oil, EMLA 5%, and Lignocaine Hydrochloride Gel 2% as a Pre-anesthetic Agent in Children Aged 7-10 Years: A Randomized Controlled Study. [Journal Article]Int J Clin Pediatr Dent. 2026 Jul; 19(7):869-873.IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: All three agents are effective pre-anesthetic agents. Clove oil can serve as a viable herbal alternative.

- Managing Anxiety in Adult Surgical Patients During Preoperative Peripheral IV Insertion: A Systematic Review of Interventions and Outcomes. [Systematic Review]J Perianesth Nurs. 2026 Oct; 41(5):1413-1421.e2.JP
- CONCLUSIONS: Current evidence for reducing anxiety during preoperative PIV insertion is limited and low in certainty. Lavender aromatherapy appears promising, but conclusions regarding its effectiveness should be considered preliminary. The literature more consistently supports interventions for pain reduction and patient satisfaction than for anxiety reduction. Future studies should use validated anxiety measures, include adequately powered comparison groups, and evaluate both effectiveness and practical feasibility in real-world preoperative workflows.

- Evaluation of the Pharmaceutical Equivalence of Lidocaine and Prilocaine Creams. [Journal Article]Pharmaceutics. 2026 Jun 08; 18(6).P
- Background: Lidocaine and prilocaine cream is a compounded topical anesthetic formulation comprising lidocaine and prilocaine. Upon application, the active ingredients are locally released and permeate into the subcutaneous tissue, exerting anesthetic effects by blocking ion channels involved in nerve impulse transmission. Variations in drug permeation may influence the onset time, anesthetic eff…

- Pain Scores Associated with Lidocaine-Tetracaine Versus Lidocaine-Prilocaine Topical Anesthesia During Facial and Cervical Microneedling: A Retrospective Single-Center Observational Analysis. [Journal Article]Medicina (Kaunas). 2026 May 25; 62(6).M
- Background: Effective topical anesthesia is essential to patient comfort and adherence during minimally invasive esthetic procedures. We retrospectively reviewed pain scores recorded after microneedling in a single private clinic where two topical anesthetic formulations-lidocaine 7%/tetracaine 7% (Pliaglis) and lidocaine 2.5%/prilocaine 2.5% (Anesderm)-were used as part of standard clinical prac…

- Microneedles enhance the efficacy of topical dental anesthesia in male subjects: a randomized controlled trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- This study aimed to determine whether microneedles (MN) can enhance the efficacy of a commercially available topical anesthetic (EMLA®) when applied to the palatal mucosa. In a randomized, double-blind, crossover trial, 30 male volunteers received bilateral applications of MN patches and flat patches (FL, without MN) on the palatal mucosa. EMLA® was subsequently applied for either 2 or 5 min in s…

- Evaluating the most effective combination of needle gauge with TENS, EMLA or topical spray for minimal pain during pediatric local anaesthesia: A randomized clinical trial. [Journal Article]Bioinformation. 2026; 22(3):1350-1353.B
- Pain and anxiety during dental local anesthesia injections remain a significant challenge in pediatric dentistry, often leading to fear, poor cooperation, and negative treatment experiences in children. Therefore, it is of interest to compare the effectiveness of transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation (TENS), EMLA cream as well as conventional lignocaine topical spray, in conjunction with need…

- Impact of Anesthetic Cream and Vibration on Injection Pain in Lymphedema. [Journal Article]Plast Reconstr Surg Glob Open. 2026 Apr; 14(4):e7672.PR
- CONCLUSIONS: Higher lymphedema severity was associated with lower VAS scores, suggesting reduced pain sensitivity in such patients. EMLA cream application time was associated with a reduction in injection pain in patients with lymphedema. In contrast, the vibratory stimulation device demonstrated no significant benefits, warranting further investigation.

- Comparison of Compound Lidocaine Cream and Lidocaine-Prilocaine Cream for Pain Management in Facial Rejuvenation: A Randomized Controlled Trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: Compound lidocaine cream demonstrated superior analgesic efficacy in this clinical comparison; however, differences in anesthetic concentration, application technique, and lack of participant blinding should be considered when interpreting these findings. Larger studies with standardized dosing and blinding are warranted.
