- Round Window Reinforcement for Semicircular Canal Dehiscence Syndrome. [Journal Article]J Int Adv Otol. 2025 Sep 15; 21(5):1-5.JI
- CONCLUSIONS: Round window reinforcement appears to be a safe and effective therapeutic option for selected patients with SCDS, particularly those presenting predominantly auditory symptoms or contraindications to more invasive procedures. Further prospective studies are needed to validate these findings and define the role of RWR in the broader surgical management of third window syndromes.

- A Unified Theory for the Development of Tinnitus Perception and Hyperacusis Based on Associative Plasticity in the Dorsal Cochlear Nucleus. [Journal Article]
- Background/Objectives: Tinnitus and hyperacusis can occur together or in isolation, with hyperacusis being associated with tinnitus much more frequently than vice versa. This striking correlation between tinnitus and hyperacusis prevalence implies that there might be a common origin, such as (hidden) hearing loss, and possibly interrelated neural mechanisms in the pathological development of thos…

- Mechanistic insights into third-window syndromes through numerical modeling: A PRISMA scoping review. [Review]J Vestib Res. 2026 Apr 20; :9574271261446228. [Online ahead of print]JV
- Introduction: Third-window syndromes (TWS), including superior semicircular canal dehiscence (SSCD) and enlarged vestibular aqueduct (EVA), cause paradoxical auditory and vestibular symptoms such as apparent conductive loss, bone-conduction hyperacusis, and sound- or pressure-induced vertigo. Numerical modeling provides a unique means to explore the mechanical consequences of lesion size, geometr…

- Efficacy and safety of a modified sound therapy for patients with subjective tinnitus (MOST): a multicentre, double-blind, randomised controlled trial. [Journal Article]
- Tinnitus is a common and often debilitating auditory condition with limited treatment options. While sound therapy is widely used, robust evidence from long-term randomised trials is scarce. We aimed to evaluate the 9-month efficacy and 3-month posttreatment durability of four sound therapies for adults with chronic subjective tinnitus and identify predictors of response.

- Correlation between auditory brainstem responses, hyperacusis, and severity of autism spectrum disorder in young children with normal hearing at a tertiary referral center in Indonesia. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: There was no significant correlation between ABR wave latencies or hyperacusis and the severity of ASD, while ABR wave latencies were generally longer in children without hyperacusis. Further large studies involving a broader spectrum of children with ASD are warranted to confirm our findings.
- Tinnitus Prevalence, Associated Characteristics, and Treatment Patterns among Adults in Saudi Arabia. [Journal Article]
- Tinnitus affects millions of people around the world and causes significant negative impacts on their quality of life (QoL). Tinnitus is rarely examined in Saudi Arabia. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of tinnitus among adults, explore their experience with tinnitus, investigate the impact of tinnitus on their QoL, and discover their tinnitus management methods. A descriptive cross-se…

- Clinical experiences, current approaches, opinions and awareness of healthcare professionals regarding the audio-vestibular consequences of individuals with traumatic brain injury: a cross-sectional online survey study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Many audio-vestibular impairments are observed by HCPs caring for patients with TBI. The assessment and intervention opinions and awareness of HCPs for these impairments vary. However, non-expert HCPs may not be aware of negative consequences of untreated audio-vestibular impairments following TBI. Therefore, developing a simple framework for screening and indications of audio-vestibular impairments for referral may be helpful for non-audiological specialists regularly seeing these patients.

- Exploring the Prevalence of Tinnitus and Ear-Related Symptoms in China After the COVID-19 Pandemic: Online Cross-Sectional Survey. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In summary, tinnitus was identified as the most common ear-related symptom during COVID-19 infection. Individuals experiencing tinnitus after COVID-19 infection were found to have poorer cognitive and emotional well-being. Different ear-related symptoms in patients post-COVID-19 infection may suggest viral invasion of various parts of the ear. It is therefore crucial to monitor and manage hearing-related changes resulting from COVID-19 as clinical services resume.

- Prevalence and management outcomes of tonic tensor tympani syndrome in an ENT audiology tinnitus clinic in Singapore. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study suggests that tonic tensor tympani syndrome is a significant problem among tinnitus patients and current tinnitus management strategies contribute effectively to helping such patients habituate to their symptoms.

- Hyperacusis: Focus on Gender Differences: A Systematic Review. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: The literature data suggest that males and females exhibit a similar level of hyperacusis. However, in light of the subjective nature of this condition, the eventual set up of further tests to assess hyperacusis features could be very helpful in the near future.

- Phenotypes and clinical subgroups in vestibular migraine: a cross-sectional study with cluster analysis. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: VM is with any evidence a heterogeneous disorder and clinical presentations exhibit a great variability. In VM, both symptoms orienting toward a peripheral mechanism (cochlear symptoms) and central ones (long lasting positional non-paroxysmal vertigo) may coexist. Our study is the first published trying to characterize subgroups of VM subjects, thus orienting toward different pathophysiological mechanisms.

- Ankle Audiometry: A Clinical Test for the Enhanced Hearing Sensitivity for Body Sounds in Superior Canal Dehiscence Syndrome. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: AA showed interesting diagnostic features in SCDS with significantly lower hearing thresholds in SCDS patients when compared to healthy matched subjects. Moreover, AA could identify the affected or more affected side in SCDS patients, with a significant threshold elevation after SCDS surgery, corresponding in body sounds' hypersensitivity relief. Clinically, AA may represent a first objective measure of body sounds' hypersensitivity in SCDS and, accordingly, be an accessible screening test for SCDS in not tertiary audiological centers.

- Psychological Profile and Social Behaviors of Patients with Hyperacusis. [Journal Article]
- Increased noise sensitivity refers to the abnormal subjective response to external sounds, with a prevalence of between 8% and 15.2% in the adult population as suggested by epidemiological studies. The basic neural mechanism of hyperacusis still remains obscure, so therapies for this often-devastating symptom remain elusive. The aim of this study was to assess psychological profiles in patients w…
