- Assessment of Preoperative Predictors for Difficult Laryngeal Exposure in Endolaryngeal Surgery. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: A sound, easy and valid preoperative laryngoscore may be significantly helpful in identifying intraoperative difficult laryngeal exposure. This may prevent inadequacy of surgery, abandon of surgery, intra operative complication, and medico-legal cases for laryngologist.

- GeneReviews®: Mucopolysaccharidosis Type VII [BOOK]GeneReviews®. University of Washington, Seattle: Seattle (WA).BOOK
- Individuals with mucopolysaccharidosis type VII (MPS VII) can present perinatally with early demise, nonimmune hydrops fetalis, cholestatic jaundice, and hepatosplenomegaly, or in early childhood with developmental delay and characteristic musculoskeletal features (e.g., short neck, short-trunk short stature, pectus deformity, gibbus, and joint stiffness/contractures) and craniofacial features (e…
- Amyloid Deposition in the Upper Aerodigestive Tract, A Single Institute Experience. [Journal Article]
- Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate clinical information, laboratory results, and pathologic findings of patients with amyloidosis involving larynx, oral cavity, and pharynx from our institute. Methods: A total of 39 specimens from 28 patients were retrieved from 2000 to 2020. Data collection included clinical presentation, radiographic, laboratory results, and pathologic finding…

- Risk factors for failed first intubation attempt in an out-of-hospital setting: a multicenter prospective study. [Multicenter Study]
- This study was performed to identify variables potentially associated with failure of the first intubation attempt in an out-of-hospital emergency setting, considering all aspects of tracheal intubation. This observational prospective multicenter study was performed over 17 months and involved 10 prehospital emergency medical units. After each tracheal intubation, the operator was required to pro…

- Macroglossia as the initial presentation of AL amyloidosis: review and updates in treatment. [Case Reports]
- We encountered a man in his 60s presenting with worsening macroglossia. The patient underwent extensive otolaryngology evaluation and was diagnosed with primary (AL) amyloidosis on tongue biopsy with Congo red stain. The patient then underwent a bone marrow biopsy and was also found to have concurrent multiple myeloma. He started induction therapy with daratumumab and CyBorD (cyclophosphamide, bo…

- Recurrent macroglossia requiring tracheostomy after haemorrhagic basal ganglia stroke. [Case Reports]
- A 50-year-old African American woman with hypertension, congestive heart failure, chronic kidney disease and prior cerebral vascular accident was transferred from an outside hospital after being found unresponsive and subsequently intubated for severe orolingual swelling. Imaging showed left thalamic haemorrhagic stroke, and the lingual swelling was clinically concerning for angio-oedema, with wh…

- Imaging features of mucopolysaccharidoses in the head and neck. [Review]
- Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) involvement by mucopolysaccharidoses is very common, affecting over 90% of patients, and occurs early in the course of the disease. Airway narrowing secondary to glycosaminoglycan deposition results in greatly increased morbidity, mortality and risk of anesthetic complications in these patients. Macroglossia, restricted mouth opening, tracheobronchomalacia, adenotonsill…

- A Study of Application of Preoperative Clinical Predictors of Difficult Laryngeal Exposure for Microlaryngoscopy: The Laryngoscore in the Indian Population. [Journal Article]
- Good exposure for visualisation of the glottis is an essential prerequisite for effective microlaryngoscopy. There is no definitive clinical predictor scoring system to predict difficult microlaryngoscopy. The aim of the study was to study the validity of the Laryngoscore scoring system as a preoperative clinical predictor score in Indian population for difficult laryngeal exposure during microla…

- Lingual liability: macroglossia and dyspnoea as the harbinger of systemic AL (light-chain) cardiac amyloidosis. [Case Reports]
- A 58-year-old man presented with a chief complaint of tongue indentations and discomfort. Otolaryngology treated him for oral thrush with counselling to avoid tongue biting. In addition, the patient reported dyspnoea described as a decrease in tolerance of his physical activities. Due to continued increase in tongue size and worsening dyspnoea, he underwent a tissue biopsy with findings consisten…

- ENT and mucopolysaccharidoses. [Review]
- The mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS) are a heterogeneous group of inherited metabolic disorders, each associated with a deficiency in one of the enzymes involved in glycosaminoglycan (GAG) catabolism. Over time, GAGs accumulate in cells and tissues causing progressive damage, a variety of multi-organ clinical manifestations, and premature death. Ear, nose, and throat (ENT) disorders affect more than 9…

- Unusual complications caused by lipoma of the tongue. [Case Reports]
- Lipoma is the most common, benign, soft tissue, mesenchymal tumour and is composed of mature adipose tissue. It is infrequent in the oral cavity (approximately 0.3% of all tongue neoplasias). We describe the case of a 68-year-old man with a swelling at the tongue edge and tongue dysesthesia. Medical history, clinical assessment, radiographic images, and cytological analysis enabled specialists to…

- Life-threatening macroglossia after posterior fossa surgery: a surgical positioning problem? [Case Reports]
- A 55-year-old woman was operated in the lateral park bench position with significant neck flexion and oral packing. Macroglossia was noticed immediately postoperatively after endotracheal extubation. The patient was reintubated for 13 days and subsequently required a tracheostoma. After the placement of the tracheostoma and the removal of the endotracheal tube, the congestion of the tongue decrea…
- Airway-related symptoms and surgeries in patients with mucopolysaccharidosis I. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Airway-related symptoms and surgeries are common and often the earliest presenting feature in MPS I. Improved recognition of early MPS I disease manifestations may lead to earlier diagnosis and treatment.
