  • CONCLUSIONS: Olfactory dysfunction is associated with all-cause mortality risk in older adults, with the strength of this association strongly influenced by methodological choices in the definition and assessment of olfactory function. These findings highlight olfactory dysfunction as a potential surrogate marker of systemic physiological decline in ageing populations and underscore the critical need for standardised olfactory assessment methodologies in future epidemiological and geriatric research to improve the comparability and clinical translation of evidence.

  • CONCLUSIONS: CS is associated with a substantial ENT disease burden extending beyond choanal atresia, including frequent airway compromise, olfactory dysfunction, craniofacial anomalies, and vestibulocochlear malformations. Early, comprehensive multidisciplinary assessment with otolaryngology involvement is warranted.

  • CONCLUSIONS: These results highlight the significant burden olfactory dysfunction imposes on individuals. However, unlike other chronic conditions with established treatment protocols, effective therapies for SATDs remain limited, emphasising a critical gap in both research and care. Increased awareness and further research are essential to develop effective treatments and improve outcomes for this often-overlooked population.

  • CONCLUSIONS: Perceived olfactory dysfunction in CRSwNP was closely associated with an active local immune-inflammatory microenvironment in the olfactory mucosa, characterized by predominant type 2/eosinophilic inflammation, epithelial injury, abnormal repair, barrier disruption, and immune cell infiltration. Among the inflammatory markers examined, IL-5 showed the strongest association with the severity of olfactory dysfunction, while CLC and CCL11 may serve as candidate local tissue markers of inflammatory burden in CRSwNP-associated olfactory dysfunction.

  • CONCLUSIONS: We have built on existing literature highlighting the impact SATDs have on participant eating behaviour. Although there is clearly an impact on diet and social behaviours around food/eating it is hard to know the full health and economic impact. Especially when we consider that poor nutritional intake has been linked to cognitive decline in an older age group, it is an important area for further research and it may be beneficial for healthcare providers to offer tailored nutritional advice and discuss possible coping mechanisms upon diagnosis of SATDs.

  • CONCLUSIONS: This case challenges the irreversibility paradigm of childhood-onset anosmia and demonstrates that olfactory recovery is possible even after decades, potentially mediated by anti-inflammatory effects and neurogenic plasticity. The emergence of parosmia during recovery reflects maladaptive neuroplasticity during olfactory regeneration. Combined corticosteroid therapy, vitamin A supplementation and olfactory training may offer therapeutic hope for similar patients, warranting further investigation of inflammatory modulation and neuroregenerative approaches in congenital olfactory disorders.
