- Diving-related ear, nose, and throat disorders: a structured review using a phase-of-dive framework. [Review]Diving Hyperb Med. 2026 Sep 30; 56(3):329-341.DH
- CONCLUSIONS: Scuba diving-related ENT complications appear to be diverse, influenced by dive phase, and shaped by individual anatomical and physiological factors. A phase-aware framework offers clinicians a useful way to contextualise symptom onset and guide prevention and counselling, particularly for divers with prior ear or nasal surgery or implanted devices. Prospective studies are needed to refine screening practices and establish evidence-based return-to-dive recommendations.

- Rare presentation of necrotising otitis externa: isolated abducens nerve palsy. [Case Reports]BMJ Case Rep. 2026 Jul 28; 19(7).BC
- An immunocompetent, non-diabetic man in his 90s presented to A&E with headache and sudden-onset left abducens nerve palsy. He was treated for recurrent left otitis externa six months previously, with a normal CT of the petrous bone at the time.Ear appearances were unremarkable, but CT petrous bones revealed extensive skull base osteomyelitis extending to the petrous apex. MRI skull base and nucle…

- Benign Osteonecrosis of the External Auditory Canal: Diagnostic Challenges and Outcomes in a Case Series. [Journal Article]
- Introduction Benign osteonecrosis (BON) of the external auditory canal (EAC) is a rare and under recognised otological condition characterised by localised bony necrosis of the tympanic plate. It represents a diagnostic challenge due to its clinical overlap with necrotising otitis externa (NOE), EAC malignancy, keratosis obturans, and other external ear pathologies. Risk factors include antiresor…

- Clinico-microbiological assessment of necrotizing otitis externa in subjects with diabetes mellitus in India. [Journal Article]Bioinformation. 2026; 22(4):2143-2146.B
- Necrotizing otitis externa (NOE) represents a severe progression of otitis externa, particularly threatening in diabetic patients, with limited clinico-microbiological data for Indians. Therefore, it is of interest to evaluate the clinico-microbiological profile in 60 diabetic adults diagnosed with NOE at a tertiary center. Among participants (mean age 60.51±9.6 years; 60% male), universal findin…

- Efficacy and Safety of Glycerol Lidocaine Ear Drops in the Non-Antibiotic Treatment of Otitis Externa Symptoms-An Observational Study. [Journal Article]
- Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the safety and efficacy, as well as relief of symptoms after regular use, of 0.5% lidocaine hydrochloride solution in anhydrous glycerol (Auridol) in the form of ear drops, in patients with symptoms of otitis externa (OE) in a real-world setting. Methods: This real-world pre-post study included 64 subjects aged 1 to 69 years with symptoms as follo…

- A case of mixed histiocytosis (Erdheim-Chester disease and Langerhans cell histiocytosis) with STEAP3-associated anemia and type 4 hemochromatosis. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: This case illustrates the histological heterogeneity and hybrid nature of MH, where canonical dendritic LCH cells coexist with macrophage-rich ECD-like infiltrate. An integrated approach involving a multidisciplinary clinical team, thorough molecular genetic testing, and the application of targeted therapy is essential for improving prognosis and quality of life in young patients.

- Medicinal plants as alternative and adjunct antimicrobial agents in ear, nose, and throat (ENT) Infections. [Review]
- Medicinal plants are widely used worldwide for ear, nose, and throat (ENT) disorders and have a long history of traditional application. This review aims to summarize current experimental and clinical evidence on medicinal plants used for ENT conditions such as otitis externa/media, tinnitus, vertigo, allergic rhinitis, pharyngitis, and laryngitis, and to support the identification of new plant s…

- Optimizing Necrotizing Otitis Externa Management: The Role of PET-CT in Antibiotic Stewardship. [Journal Article]Otol Neurotol. 2026 Feb 01; 47(2):e480-e484.ON
- CONCLUSIONS: PET-CT effectively guided treatment cessation, reducing antibiotic exposure without compromising clinical outcomes. A higher-dose, shorter-duration ciprofloxacin regimen did not increase relapse rates, suggesting that a more intensive yet time-limited antimicrobial approach can be safely implemented. These findings support PET-CT as a valuable tool in NOE/SBO management, reinforcing its role in optimizing antibiotic stewardship.

- Ear Discharge and Destructive Postauricular Mass: An ENT Manifestation of Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis. [Case Reports]Br J Hosp Med (Lond). 2025 Oct 25; 86(10):1-10.BJ
- Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare, life-threatening condition that predominantly affects children. It is a diagnostically challenging condition due to several different clinical presentations. Presentations of LCH with otological involvement are considered rare. We report a case where LCH presented a six-month-old boy to our tertiary teaching hospital. The patient presented with a uni…

- Isolated Temporomandibular Joint Involvement in a Rare Case of Malignant Otitis Externa. [Case Reports]J Craniofac Surg. 2026 May 01; 37(5):e355-e357.JC
- CONCLUSIONS: MOE is a challenging, recurrent infection requiring early diagnosis and a multidisciplinary approach. Although TMJ involvement is rare, it should be considered in patients presenting with trismus and preauricular swelling. Imaging modalities, ear swab cultures with antibiogram-guided antibiotic therapy, and hyperbaric oxygen treatment may improve therapeutic outcomes.
