  • Intrafamilial phenotypic variation in four Palestinian siblings with CFAP418-related ciliopathy: a familial case series. [Case Reports]
    BMC Ophthalmol. 2026 Oct 11; 26(1).Awad A, Gheith B, … Harthiyyeh HABO
  • CONCLUSIONS: The family demonstrates a documented contrast in polydactyly alongside a shared molecular and retinal disease context. Recalled symptoms do not establish an electrophysiological transition between retinal diagnoses. The 2026 genotype-informed Bardet-Biedl diagnostic algorithm supports a syndromic interpretation across the sibship, while incomplete systemic ascertainment limits characterization of organ involvement. Standardized retinal follow-up, low-vision care, genetic counselling and multidisciplinary surveillance are warranted.
  • Tryptophan oxidation-induced dynamics highlight why stable γS-crystallin variants aggregate. [Journal Article]
    Biophys Rep (N Y). 2026 Oct 12; :100291. [Online ahead of print]Seo Y, Abiad A, … Martin RWBR
  • Human γS-crystallin (γS) is a highly soluble protein found in the eye lens, where it is densely packed with other proteins to form the refractive tissue required for vision. Mutations in γS can compromise its solubility and cause congenital cataract, while post-translational modifications (PTMs) can lead to age-related cataract. γS is especially susceptible to oxidative PTMs, which accumulate fro…
  • Risk of Endophthalmitis After Cataract Surgery in Immunosuppressed Patients. [Journal Article]
Ophthalmic Surg Lasers Imaging Retina. 2026 Oct 12; :1-7. [Online ahead of print]Yuan M, Alsoudi A, … Rahimy EOS
  • CONCLUSIONS: Systemic immunosuppression significantly increases acute and delayed-onset postoperative endophthalmitis risk following cataract surgery, with substantial variation across medication classes. Classic immunosuppressants and corticosteroids confer the highest risk, whereas biologic immunomodulators do not appear to increase risk.
  • Extracting the Unexpected: A 35-mm Curved Nail as an Intraocular Foreign Body. [Case Reports]
Am J Case Rep. 2026 Oct 12; 27:e953181.Afandi RA, Hafeezullah NA, … Alahmadi ASAJ
  • BACKGROUND Management of posterior segment intraocular foreign bodies is challenging, requiring the preservation of ocular integrity and restoring vision. Traumatic endophthalmitis occurs in 7% to 13% of penetrating injuries, particularly with coexisting intraocular foreign bodies. Managing posterior segment intraocular foreign bodies poses significant challenges due to their complex clinical pre…
  • Ringless Premium Intraocular Lenses - a Narrative Review of Technological Advances. [Review]
Maedica (Bucur). 2026 Sep; 21(3):776-784.Morya AK, Kumar N, … Bhale VM
  • The standard method for achieving presbyopia correction after cataract extraction has traditionally centered on intraocular lens (IOL) optics featuring concentric diffractive patterns or combinations of diffractive and refractive elements, or "rings". While there has been a transition from simple monofocality to intricate polyfocality in IOLs, this has been accompanied by associated side effects.…
  • Orthoptek Magnocellular Stimulation for Amblyopia Across Age Groups: Visual Recovery Beyond Childhood. [Journal Article]
    Maedica (Bucur). 2026 Sep; 21(3):688-695.Shah M, Shah S, … Gopal KSM
  • CONCLUSIONS: Orthoptek Magnocellular Stimulator therapy was associated with improved visual acuity and distance stereopsis. Retinal nerve fibre layer thickness remained stable, while the small statistically significant increase in amblyopic-eye CMT was not associated with visual improvement and had uncertain clinical significance. The absence of an age-related association suggests that visual improvement may be achievable beyond the traditional critical period. These preliminary findings support further controlled evaluation of OMS as a potential adjunct to amblyopia rehabilitation in younger and older patients.
  • [Advances in the functional classification of intraocular lenses]. [Review]
Zhonghua Yan Ke Za Zhi. 2026 Oct 11; 62(10):893-898.Lu Y, Chen X, Zhu XJZY
  • With the rapid development of intraocular lens (IOL) technology, the traditional classification system based on optical design has become unable to accurately present IOL properties and predict patients' real-world visual outcomes. In 2024, the Functional Vision Working Group (FVWG) of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) first proposed an evidence-based functional cla…
  • [The importance of addressing issues related to bilateral cataract surgery]. [Review]
Zhonghua Yan Ke Za Zhi. 2026 Oct 11; 62(10):779-783.Yan H, Zhang KYZY
  • Age-related cataract, the primary cause of blindness among middle-aged and elderly populations, represents a clinical condition where the bilateral surgical strategy cannot be simplified to the superposition of two independent operations, but constitutes a systematic project targeting the reconstruction of binocular visual function. With the increasing diversity of presbyopia-correcting intraocul…
