- Efficacy of Fluoride Toothpaste Fortified With Micro- and Nano-Hydroxyapatite on Remineralization and Surface Roughness of Synthetic Enamel. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Under the conditions of this in vitro study, supplementing 1450 ppm fluoride toothpaste with Syn-HAP produced surface microhardness recovery that did not differ significantly from that of standard fluoride toothpaste, while significantly improving the preservation of surface smoothness. Syn-HAP-fortified formulations therefore offer a promising approach for caries management, combining effective surface hardening with superior surface integrity, although confirmation in in situ and in vivo settings is required.

- Effects of calcium-containing solutions on fluorescence-detectable plaque area and enamel mineral volume: an in vitro and exploratory clinical study. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: Both calcium-containing oral sprays were associated with greater reductions in the primary clinical outcome, fluorescence-detectable plaque-associated area, compared with placebo. No statistically significant difference in the primary outcome was observed between Formula 1 and Formula 2. Complementary in vitro findings showed numerically higher post-treatment mineralized volume values and a significant inverse association between ΔMV and ΔQLF-detected fluorescent area under controlled conditions. Together, these exploratory findings support further investigation of calcium-containing oral sprays in larger, adequately powered clinical trials.

- Simultaneous multi-pollutant removal from photovoltaic wastewater by aluminum-modified biochar-enhanced partial nitritation-anammox process. [Journal Article]Bioresour Technol. 2026 Sep 20; 464(Pt B):135869. [Online ahead of print]BT
- Photovoltaic (PV) wastewater features high ammonium (NH4[+]-N) and multiple pollutants such as silica (SiO2), fluoride ions (F[-]), and aluminum (Al), creating barriers to autotrophic nitrogen removal. An aluminum-modified sludge biochar (Al-SBC) supplemented single-stage sludge-biofilm coupled partial nitritation/anammox (PN/A) reactor was established in this work for real PV wastewater treatmen…

- Anti-Cariogenic Potential of Lyophilized Cell-Free Supernatant of Probiotic Pediococcus pentosaceus GS4 against Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus anginosus. [Journal Article]
- Streptococcus species, particularly Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus anginosus, are recognized globally for their role in causing dental caries and other dental issues. Current treatments using fluoride products and conventional antibiotics are often ineffective due to the resilience of biofilms on tooth surfaces. To overcome these challenges, novel approaches that eliminate these pathogens…

- The case for FDG-PET and NaF-PET in risk stratification of mild cognitive impairment. [Journal Article]
- According to a recent study, integrating amyloid-PET, structural MRI, carotid Doppler ultrasound, cognitive testing, and APOE genotyping improves estimation of dementia progression in patients with mild cognitive impairment, with carotid plaque burden emerging as a dominant predictor in amyloid-β-negative cases. We agree that vascular pathology is crucial but suggest that future models consider s…

- Socioeconomic differences in the effectiveness of oral health programs for dental caries prevention in Europe: A systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]J Dent. 2026 Dec; 175:106931.JD
- CONCLUSIONS: Participation in OHP may be associated with reducing dental caries in European populations, but benefits are unequally distributed and increase with higher SES. However, this conclusion is based on a limited number of well-conducted trials.

- Mechanisms of caries induced by sugars: a narratives review from microbial metabolism to oral ecological imbalance and public health strategies for caries prevention. [Review]Front Cell Infect Microbiol. 2026; 16:1834886.FC
- Dental caries is defined as a chronic, multifactorial disease characterized by the demineralization of dental hard tissues resulting from the acid production by oral microbial communities metabolizing dietary sugars. The ingestion of sugars is a pivotal ecological factor in the progression of caries, with mechanisms that extend beyond merely providing substrates for cariogenic bacteria. This revi…

- Overlooked fluoride release from modified phosphogypsum and its effective immobilization by Nocardia sp. [Journal Article]J Hazard Mater. 2026 Aug 01; 514:142855.JH
- The application of modified phosphogypsum (MPG) as a soil amendment has emerged as a promising strategy for its large-scale utilization, yet the potential environmental risk of fluoride (F[-]) release during this process has been largely overlooked. This study systematically demonstrated that MPG-amended soils pose a persistent F[-] leaching hazard, with leachate contents reaching up to 3.0 mg L[…

- Dental caries burden across age groups in Kerman province, Iran (1992-2025): a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: The dental caries burden in Kerman province remains high across all age groups, with a significant worsening trend in early childhood caries. Due to the very low certainty of current evidence, a standardized provincial oral health survey is needed. Future strategies should prioritize expanded water fluoridation and targeted community-based preschool interventions.

- Sodium-ion batteries are promising energy storage devices due to abundant sodium, inherent safety, and low cost, but irreversible sodium loss during initial cycles limits their reversible capacity and long-term stability. Cathode sodium-supplemented additives offer a simple and fabrication-compatible strategy. Herein, an organic sodium-supplemented additive, sodium squarate (Na2C4O4, NCO), is int…

- From Preservation to Precision in Pediatric Dentistry: Evidence-Calibrated Viewpoint and Heuristic Framework for Silver Diamine Fluoride Guidance. [Journal Article]
- Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is a key preservation-based intervention in pediatric dentistry. It can arrest many cavitated lesions, reduce treatment burden, and expand access for children who cannot receive conventional restorative care. This viewpoint article offers a reasoned, heuristic framework for calibrating SDF guidance to the strength of the underlying evidence. It does not present a sys…
