- Comparative Feasibility Assessment of a Simplified Mossel EE-MacConkey Workflow for Detection of Enterobacteriaceae in Selected Non-Sterile Pharmaceutical Products. [Journal Article]ACS Omega. 2026 Oct 27; 11(42):64465-64472.AO
- Microbiological quality control of nonsterile pharmaceutical products requires reliable detection of Enterobacteriaceae while maintaining operational feasibility in routine laboratory settings. Harmonized pharmacopoeial methods involve sequential procedures, including pre-enrichment, selective enrichment, and differential isolation. These steps increase analytical time and resource requirements. …

- Evaluation of the Association of N-Acetylcysteine and Mortality in Non-Acetaminophen-Induced Acute Liver Failure. [Journal Article]J Intensive Care Med. 2026 Oct 29; :8850666261503884. [Online ahead of print]JI
- PurposeNon-acetaminophen-induced acute liver failure (NAI-ALF) is associated with high mortality, with limited treatment options beyond supportive care and liver transplantation. While intravenous (IV) N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is the standard of care in acetaminophen-induced ALF, its benefit in NAI-ALF remains uncertain. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of IV NAC on in…

- Protective role of aprepitant in paracetamol-induced renal injury: biochemical and histopathological evidence. [Journal Article]Drug Chem Toxicol. 2026 Oct 29; :1-10. [Online ahead of print]DC
- Paracetamol (PARA) is a commonly used analgesic and antipyretic, but overdose can result in severe hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity. Aprepitant (APRE), a selective neurokinin-1 receptor (NK-1R) antagonist used clinically as an antiemetic, may offer protective effects against drug-induced organ toxicity. This study aimed to evaluate the renoprotective potential of APRE in a rat model of PARA-indu…

- Achieving opioid-free anaesthesia. [Review]Ir J Med Sci. 2026 Oct 29. [Online ahead of print]IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Rigid opioid avoidance risks undertreating acute pain, so OFA is best applied selectively, guided by procedure type, patient comorbidities, and institutional resources. This review evaluates the rationale, implementation, and limitations of OFA, providing clinicians with a balanced appraisal of its role in modern perioperative care.

- Efficacy, Safety, and Impact of Combined Extended-Release Tramadol Hydrochloride and Acetaminophen on Inflammatory Mediators in Malignant Lymphoma-Associated Pain. [Journal Article]Ann Pharmacother. 2026 Oct 29; :10600280261496561. [Online ahead of print]AP
- CONCLUSIONS: The combination of tramadol hydrochloride extended-release tablets and acetaminophen provides superior analgesic efficacy and greater improvement in quality of life compared with either monotherapy in the treatment of malignant lymphoma-related pain, and its mechanism is associated with the synergistic downregulation of peripheral pain mediators and modulation of the inflammatory cytokine profile. During the treatment period, the combination regimen did not significantly increase the risk of adverse reactions, demonstrating a favorable benefit-risk ratio. This report is the first to simultaneously confirm, in this patient population, both the clinical efficacy of this combination regimen and its modulatory effects on the systemic pain-inflammation network, thereby providing a strategy for enhanced analgesia in clinical practice. Based on the data from this study, this regimen may serve as an effective option for the short-term management of moderate to severe pain in patients with malignant lymphoma; however, its long-term efficacy and broad applicability require further investigation.

- Loss of LKB1 protects against acetaminophen hepatotoxicity in mice through sex-specific mechanisms. [Journal Article]Toxicol Sci. 2026 Oct 29. [Online ahead of print]TS
- Acetaminophen (APAP) overdose is a major cause of acute liver failure (ALF). We previously observed activation of liver kinase B1 (LKB1) in non-surviving patients with APAP-induced ALF. Thus, we hypothesized LKB1 is detrimental in APAP hepatotoxicity. To test our hypothesis, we overdosed hepatocyte-specific LKB1 knockout (KO) mice and wildtype (WT) littermates with APAP and measured liver injury …

- Prenatal exposure to paracetamol is associated with smaller testicular volume: a COPANA cohort study of 287 healthy infant boys. [Journal Article]Hum Reprod Open. 2026; 2026(4):hoag089.HR
- CONCLUSIONS: Prenatal paracetamol exposure was associated with smaller testicular volume in infant boys.Residual confounding by indication cannot be excluded. The generalizability of the study may be affected by the homogeneity of the Copenhagen Analgesic Study (COPANA) cohort. Longitudinal follow-up is necessary for evaluation of reproductive health in adulthood. In this prospective human cohort study, prenatal paracetamol exposure was associated with reduced testicular volume during minipuberty, a transient period of postnatal activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis that is considered a critical window for assessing future reproductive function.

- CONCLUSIONS: In adults, NSAID initiation, predominantly loxoprofen, showed no clear difference in short-term neuropsychiatric diagnoses compared with acetaminophen, although a relative increase of up to 36% and residual confounding by presenting symptoms were not excluded. The findings do not address diclofenac, mefenamic acid, children or established influenza-associated encephalopathy.
