- Epidemiology, clinical, phenotypic and genotypic characteristics of multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii from Qatar. [Journal Article]J Infect Public Health. 2026 Oct 06; 19(11):103381. [Online ahead of print]JI
- CONCLUSIONS: Multidrug-resistant A. baumannii was infrequently isolated, predominantly ST2, mainly from elderly patients with multiple risk factors. Extensive resistance profiles limit treatment options, with promising in vitro results for tigecycline and cefiderocol.

- Nationwide Cross-Sectional Study of the Prevalence and MIC-Based Antimicrobial Resistance of Salmonella spp. in Poultry in Morocco. [Journal Article]Foodborne Pathog Dis. 2026 Oct 07; :15353141261494907. [Online ahead of print]FP
- Salmonella spp. are major foodborne pathogens transmitted through contaminated poultry products. The emergence of antibiotic-resistant strains complicates treatment and increases the risk of multidrug-resistant (MDR). In Morocco, data on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) profiles in poultry-associated Salmonella remain limited. This study aimed to assess the prevalence and AMR patterns of Salmonella…

- Spatiotemporal patterns of antimicrobial resistance in shared human-animal waterpoints in the Maasai Mara Ecosystem, Kenya. [Journal Article]
- Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) presents an existential One Health threat. The spread of AMR in arid and semi-arid landscapes is modulated by ecological interactions and exacerbated by endemicity of livestock diseases and poor sanitation in shared human-animal systems leading to misuse of antibiotics. This study characterized the prevalence, resistance patterns, and spatiotemporal variations of AM…

- Emergence of multidrug resistant Enterobacter spp. in Nigeria: a genomic study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study provides the first genomic insight into Enterobacter species in northwest Nigeria, highlighting their role in the spread of antimicrobial resistance. E. hormaechei subsp. xiangfangensis was identified as the main reservoir of ESBL and AmpC β-lactamases in this study. The discovery of novel STs with diverse virulence factors and plasmid replicon indicates potential horizontal gene transfer across different ecological niches. Our findings underscore the need for robust surveillance and control measures to combat the spread of MDR Enterobacter species across human, animal, and food niches.

- Alarming resistance to third-generation cephalosporins and carbapenems among Enterobacterales colonising pregnant women and neonates in eastern DRC. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The high prevalence of multidrug-resistant ESCR-E and CRE in mothers and newborns highlights an urgent need for improved antimicrobial stewardship, resistance surveillance, and infection prevention strategies. The potential use of probiotics to restore gut microbiota and reduce colonisation should also be explored.

- Antimicrobial resistance phenotypes, disinfectant susceptibility, and resistance-associated gene detection in carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa from two tertiary hospitals in Urumqi, China. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: CRPA isolates from these two hospitals showed uniform nonsusceptibility to carbapenems, with failure to amplify the expected oprD target the most frequent molecular observation. XDR isolates showed higher benzalkonium bromide MICs in vitro compared with non-XDR isolates. qacEΔ1-sul1 was the predominant disinfectant resistance gene detected, but its association with the XDR phenotype did not survive correction for multiple comparisons, and carriage was not accompanied by any measurable difference in benzalkonium bromide susceptibility. These findings provide baseline epidemiological data for Urumqi, though whole-genome sequencing, molecular typing, expression analysis, and standardised biocide efficacy testing would be required to establish mechanistic determinants.

- CONCLUSIONS: In this study, the implementation of TDM did not significantly impact PK/PD target attainment, which underscores the importance of integrating a protocolised dose adaptation algorithm. Neurological adverse events were associated with drug overexposure and kidney function impairment.

- Acute bacterial endophthalmitis with focal vitritis at a nasal chandelier illumination port after scleral buckling. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Whereas previously reported cases of CSB-related endophthalmitis typically presented with widespread intraocular inflammation obscuring the primary infectious focus, this case captures the early focal progression of vitritis in a chronological sequence. The localization at the nasal chandelier port provides visual clues to a possible entry route. The appearance of a localized vitreous opacity corresponding to a chandelier insertion site-even if subtle-should raise suspicion of acute endophthalmitis and prompt timely evaluation and treatment. The route and timing of bacterial entry cannot be established from this case alone.

- Prevalence and Molecular Characterization of Carbapenemase and Hypervirulence Genes in Klebsiella pneumoniae Isolates in Hospitals of Benghazi, Libya. [Journal Article]
- Klebsiella pneumoniae is a leading cause of hospital-acquired infections, particularly in intensive care units (ICUs), where multidrug-resistant (MDR) and hypervirulent strains represent major therapeutic challenges. This study investigated the phenotypic and molecular features of isolates recovered from ICU patients and the hospital environment in Benghazi, Libya. Antimicrobial susceptibility wa…

- Carvacrol exhibits potent anti-Klebsiella activity, whereas the multicomponent composition of essential oils may contribute to their enhanced antibacterial activity. [Journal Article]
- Multidrug-resistant (MDR) Klebsiella infections represent an increasing therapeutic challenge, underscoring the need for complementary antimicrobial strategies. Essential oils (EOs) are complex mixtures of bioactive compounds, and their antibacterial effects may not be fully explained by their predominant constituents. We compared the antibacterial activity of isolated carvacrol with that of oreg…

- Suspected allergic bronchopulmonary candidiasis in a patient with concurrent multidrug-resistant bacterial pneumonia: A case report. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: Persistent infiltrates with high IgE and Candida isolation should suggest ABPM, not intensified antibiotics. ABPC can occur in older patients without asthma.
