- Histological characteristics of the lower esophagus among persons with and without GERD in a general population. [Journal Article]Scand J Gastroenterol. 2026 Oct 09; :1-10. [Online ahead of print]SJ
- CONCLUSIONS: This study presents the normal histology of the lower esophagus. There are subtle histological differences in the lower esophagus in people with and without GERS and esophagitis.

- Treatment effects and safety of Chinese herbal medicine in gastroesophageal reflux disease: a systematic review of randomized controlled trials and a network meta-analysis with component analysis. [Systematic Review]Front Pharmacol. 2026; 17:1920738.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: This study presents the first component-level analysis of CHM prescriptions for GERD, suggesting improvements in clinical efficacy and recurrence control. By integrating prescription patterns with evidence-based pharmacology, our findings provide insights into multi-target CHM strategies and support the potential of CHM to strengthen the esophagogastric barrier and reduce long-term PPI dependence.

- Salivary Microbiome Profiles in Burning Mouth Syndrome With Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease Comorbidity: A Comparative Analysis. [Journal Article]Oral Dis. 2026 Oct 06. [Online ahead of print]OD
- CONCLUSIONS: BMS patients exhibit shared oral microbiome alterations, while GERD comorbidity is associated with a distinct salivary microbial profile characterized by reduced microbial richness and enrichment of Porphyromonas and Parvimonas. These findings suggest that GERD status may represent a potential clinical stratification factor for identifying biologically distinct subgroups of BMS, providing insight into disease heterogeneity and supporting future investigations of symptom variability and treatment response.

- Case Report: Robot-assisted nissen fundoplication in spinal muscular atrophy type 2-a tailored surgical and anaesthetic strategy. [Case Reports]
- Antireflux surgery may be required in patients with spinal muscular atrophy type 2 (SMA2), but disease-specific experience is limited. To our knowledge, we report the first robot-assisted Nissen fundoplication in SMA2. A 23-year-old woman with severe gastroesophageal reflux disease, bulbar dysfunction, impaired secretion management, severe restrictive respiratory impairment, a previous failed int…

- A Cross-Sectional Observational Study of the Correlation Between Asthma-Related Quality of Life (AQLQ) and Asthma Control Measures. [Journal Article]
- Introduction The Asthma Control Questionnaire (ACQ) and Asthma Control Test (ACT) are widely used to assess asthma control but are more time-consuming than the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) level of control (LoC), a simpler tool that is commonly used in busy clinical settings. Despite the substantial impact of asthma on quality of life, quality-of-life assessment is performed less frequentl…

- The diagnostic utility of abdominal and bowel ultrasound in detecting gastrointestinal and hepatic manifestations of rheumatoid arthritis. [Journal Article]Arab J Gastroenterol. 2026 Oct 05. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Abdominal ultrasound is recommended in the routine evaluation of the liver besides liver enzymes while bowel ultrasound is not recommended as routine screening in RA patients in the absence of complaint.

- Characteristics, Risk Factors, and Long-Term Outcomes of Dysphagia Following Modified Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty: A Mixed-Methods Study. [Journal Article]Clin Otolaryngol. 2026 Oct 04. [Online ahead of print]CO
- CONCLUSIONS: Dysphagia is a common and persistent sequela following mUPPP. The combination of EAT-10 and FEES is recommended for comprehensive postoperative monitoring. Preoperative identification and management of risk factors (gender, GERD, psychological status, and sleepiness) are crucial for risk stratification and implementing personalised interventions to reduce the burden of persistent dysphagia.

- Optimal cannabinoid-terpene combination ratios suppress mutagenicity of gastric reflux in normal and metaplastic esophageal cells. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Modulation of the ECS using systematically selected cannabinoid-terpene ratios can attenuate bile acid-induced esophageal damage and may reduce carcinogenic progression. These findings support further in vivo studies and raise the possibility of expanding cannabinoid-terpene therapeutics to other diseases with comparable pathogenic mechanisms.

- CONCLUSIONS: There was a nonsignificant 9.5% difference in the primary intention-to-treat 4-week healing endpoint between tegoprazan and pantoprazole. Tegoprazan provided faster symptom improvement, while the per-protocol findings and the higher healing rate observed in the exploratory severe oesophagitis subgroup were encouraging and warrant further investigation. - Genetic evidence for associations between gastroesophageal reflux disease and site-specific extraesophageal cancers: A Mendelian randomization study. [Meta-Analysis]
- Observational studies have suggested an increased risk of extraesophageal cancers in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), but whether these associations are causal remains uncertain. This study systematically evaluated the potential associations between genetically predicted GERD and 22 extraesophageal cancers. Genetic instruments for GERD were obtained from a large genome-wide a…
