- Excellent response to high-dose Riboflavin in Brown-Vialetto-Van Laere syndrome: A case report. [Case Reports]Medicine (Baltimore). 2026 Oct 02; 105(40):e51027.M
- CONCLUSIONS: RTD3 should be considered in young patients with progressive sensorineural hearing loss associated with bulbar dysfunction, motor neuropathy, or respiratory weakness, particularly when family history is suggestive. Recognition of the characteristic phenotype, targeted genetic testing, and prompt initiation of high-dose riboflavin may substantially alter the clinical course of this potentially treatable disorder.

- Extended genotype-phenotype spectrum of 17α-hydroxylase/17,20-lyase deficiency: a nine-case series featuring a novel mutation, suspected TART-like lesions, and multisystem involvement. [Case Reports]Front Endocrinol (Lausanne). 2026; 17:1824733.FE
- CONCLUSIONS: This cohort extends the Chinese pathogenic CYP17A1 variant spectrum and reveals tentative genotype-subtype associations plus rare co-occurring phenotypes. Larger multicenter cohorts and functional experiments are needed to validate causal links between atypical manifestations and 17-OHD. Early adrenal steroid profiling and CYP17A1 sequencing are recommended for patients with hypertension, hypokalemia, and disorders of sex development. Serial ovarian reserve testing is required for 46,XX patients, and long-term gonadal imaging follow-up for 46,XY patients with gonadal dysgenesis.

- Proteomic Signatures of Noise-Induced Hearing Loss in the Mouse Cochlea. [Journal Article]
- Hearing loss affects over 1.5 billion people worldwide and has substantial social, educational, and economic consequences. Although genetic studies have identified numerous hearing-loss-associated genes, the molecular changes accompanying noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) remain incompletely understood. We characterized the adult mouse cochlear proteome following damaging noise exposure using nan…

- Situation models support referential prediction at 36 months of age. [Journal Article]Dev Psychol. 2026 Oct 01. [Online ahead of print]DP
- Adults generate causally structured situation models during comprehension and use them to predict upcoming referents. In an eye-tracked comprehension task, 36-month-olds (N = 115) did the same, using story-provided information to predict which character could plausibly be mentioned next. In critical sentences, such as "She asked the goose with the boots to play with her," children treated "the go…

- Coexisting Hearing Impairment in Children Presenting With Speech and Language Delay: A Case Series Highlighting the Importance of Routine Audiological Assessment. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This case series highlights the diagnostic challenges of recognizing hearing impairment in children presenting with developmental concerns in Myanmar, particularly in the absence of routine newborn hearing screening. Hearing impairment may mimic neurodevelopmental disorders, coexist with them, or contribute substantially to developmental difficulties. Routine audiological assessment should, therefore, be incorporated into the evaluation of all children presenting with speech and language delay or broader developmental concerns to facilitate timely diagnosis and appropriate multidisciplinary intervention.

- The effects of delayed auditory feedback depend on both the rhythm and content of the feedback signal. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that the presence of speech-related spectral content in the auditory feedback signal, above and beyond the asynchrony of speech rhythms, is necessary to elicit the full disruptive effects of DAF. We describe study results within a theoretical framework that includes roles for both rhythmic asynchrony and feedback content in explaining these disruptions.

- Dual Sensory Impairment and Depressive Symptoms: Association and Pathways in Three Cohorts and a Meta-Analysis. [Meta-Analysis]
- CONCLUSIONS: DSI is consistently associated with depressive symptoms in middle-aged and older adults across China, the United States, and England. Both reduced social engagement and cognitive decline significantly mediated this association, with comparable effect sizes. The mediation effects are largely robust, with instability observed only in one sensitivity analysis.

- Validating the Gap-Startle Paradigm for Tinnitus Detection: A Machine Learning Approach in CBA/CaJ Mice. [Journal Article]bioRxiv. 2026 Sep 09.B
- Tinnitus is one of the most common hearing disorders affecting one-third of Americans and is defined as the buzzing or ringing sound one perceives in one or both ears in the absence of an acoustic stimulus. One objective method for tinnitus screening in rodents is gap prepulse inhibition of the acoustic startle reflex (GPIAS), a reduction in the abrupt motor response elicited by an intense audito…

- Auditory brainstem response amplitude predicts age-related forward masking temporal-processing deficits in normal-hearing listeners. [Journal Article]bioRxiv. 2026 Sep 25.B
- Aging has profound effects on sensory systems, such that older adults can report problems in hearing despite having normal audiometric thresholds. While it is known that older listeners have poorer temporal processing than younger listeners, there is limited understanding of how these deficits interact with effects of sound level, in particular when they are above conversational level (e.g., > 65…

- [Cleft palate and otitis media with effusion : management and hearing outcomes]. [Journal Article]Rev Med Suisse. 2026 Sep 30; 22(977):1576-1579.RM
- Otitis media with effusion is common in children with cleft palate because of persistent Eustachian tube dysfunction. It can lead to conductive hearing loss, which may affect language development. Regular otologic and audiologic monitoring, tailored to the child's age and level of cooperation, is therefore necessary. Management relies on monitoring combined with supportive measures, including adj…
