- Alterations in hippocampal calcineurin protein levels are associated with the impairing effects of nandrolone on dorsal and ventral hippocampus-dependent memory in rats. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that ND-associated learning and memory impairments are accompanied by alterations in Calcineurin protein levels in both the dHPC and vHPC. The region-dependent effects of ND on Calcineurin may contribute to the differential vulnerability of hippocampal subregions to ND exposure and provide further insight into the potential molecular mechanisms underlying the cognitive effects of anabolic-androgenic steroid exposure.

- Origin-Associated Variation in Volatile Profiles of Commercial Sour Jujube Pulp. [Journal Article]
- Sour jujube (Ziziphus jujuba Mill. var. spinosa) is an ecologically and economically important fruit widely utilized in the functional food industry. However, the geographical variation in its volatile flavor profile and the potential odor relevance of individual volatile features remain insufficiently understood. In this study, volatile profiles of commercial sour jujube pulp samples labeled as …

- Complementary Regulation of Inflammatory, Catabolic, and PPARγ Signaling by Dexamethasone and Decanoic Acid in Donor-Specific Human Chondrocyte Models. [Journal Article]
- Background/Objectives: This study examined whether dexamethasone (Dex) and decanoic acid (DA) exert complementary effects on inflammatory signaling, catabolic gene expression, and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) activation in human chondrocytes. Methods: Two donor-specific primary human chondrocyte models, each derived from a single knee donor, were used, in which cells w…

- A sustainable and green MSPE-HPLC-DAD method for trace analysis of apremilast using new TMMS/decanoic acid-modified magnetic sorbents. [Journal Article]Anal Methods. 2026 Sep 24. [Online ahead of print]AM
- This study presents a novel, selective, and rapid magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) method coupled with HPLC-DAD for the trace-level determination of apremilast (APM). To achieve high extraction efficiency and minimize matrix interferences, Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles were functionalized using a synchronized trimethoxymethylsilane (TMMS) and decanoic acid modification strategy for the first…

- Water activity for n-component mixtures from molecular dynamics simulations via Kirkwood-Buff theory. [Journal Article]Phys Chem Chem Phys. 2026 Sep 22. [Online ahead of print]PC
- Kirkwood-Buff (KB) theory connects measurable thermodynamic properties with radial distribution functions and particle-number fluctuations accessible from molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. Although KB theory has been used to determine molar volumes, isothermal compressibilities, and solute or solvent activities from MD data, activity calculations have largely been focused on binary mixtures. - Enhanced in vitro permeability of curcuminoids and ar-turmerone using microemulsions of menthol-based hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents. [Journal Article]
- Curcumin has considerable therapeutic potential; however, its poor solubility and permeability limit its clinical applications. We evaluated menthol-based hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents (HDES) as oil phases in microemulsions to address these challenges. HDES were formulated by combining l-menthol with acids (lactic, decanoic, dodecanoic, and oleic acids) and incorporating them into microemuls…

- Integrating novel network pharmacology and experimental validation to study the mechanism of Wutou decoction against rheumatoid arthritis. [Journal Article]
- Wutou decoction (WTD) is a traditional remedy in Chinese medicine for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, its active ingredients are complex, and how it counteracts RA is still not clear. The objective of this research was to investigate the key components and targets of WTD action. RA-related genes were analyzed using the GSE55235 dataset. The active components of WTD were analyzed using online …

- Metabolic engineering of Lacticaseibacillus paracasei alleviates post-acidification and reshapes metabolite profiles in probiotic yogurt. [Journal Article]
- Post-acidification during storage limits the use of multiple probiotics in fermented dairy products. In this study, the ldh gene was deleted in Lacticaseibacillus paracasei Zhang (LCZ), resulting in 45% reduction in lactic acid production. Co-fermentation of the engineered strain with commercial starters effectively controlled post-acidification, maintained a stable pH (4.5-4.3) over 28 d, and in…

- Fatty Acid Deaggregation and Extraction from Vesicles by Serum Albumin Proceeds Via a Dock-and-Load Mechanism. [Journal Article]
- It is unknown whether the transport protein serum albumin extracts fatty acid (FA) monomers from aggregates and causes deaggregation. We studied the effect of human and bovine serum albumin on spin-labeled FAs 5/16-DOXYL stearic acid in phospholipid vesicles, in mixtures with decanoic acid (DA), and as pure aggregates. With continuous-wave electron paramagnetic resonance (CW EPR) spectroscopy, we…
