- The Ethics of Lung Cancer Education for Pulmonary Fibrosis Patients: Addressing Diagnostic Overshadowing and Cancer Risk. [Journal Article]J Cancer Educ. 2026 Oct 02. [Online ahead of print]JC
- Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic, progressive interstitial lung disease associated with a substantially increased risk of lung cancer. Yet IPF is still primarily conceptualized and communicated as a disease of progressive fibrosis. This creates an important diagnostic challenge: worsening cough, breathlessness, fatigue, functional decline, or weight loss may be attributed to progr…

- Research on the role and mechanism of SLC7A5 in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. [Journal Article]Mol Med Rep. 2026 Nov; 34(5).MM
- Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a progressive, chronic and fatal interstitial lung disease. The etiology of IPF remains to be fully elucidated and its prognosis remains poor with a short survival period. Solute carrier family 7 member 5 (SLC7A5) is an amino acid transporter that is responsible for the transportation of large neutral amino acids. The expression of SLC7A5 was found to be sig…

- The impact of macrophage metabolism on idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis development and treatment prospectives. [Review]Front Immunol. 2026; 17:1892250.FI
- Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic, progressive fibrotic interstitial pneumonia of unknown etiology, in which macrophages serve as central orchestrators of the pathological microenvironment. During IPF progression, the alveolar macrophage pool undergoes a critical compositional shift: tissue-resident alveolar macrophages (TR-AMs) are progressively depleted and replaced by monocyte-d…

- Multi-omics integration reveals the CTSK-cholesterol metabolic axis and the cholesterol-RORA/LDLR paracrine axis in SPP1[+] macrophages as mediators of 6PPD-quinone-induced idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. [Journal Article]Environ Pollut. 2026 Oct 01; :129254. [Online ahead of print]EP
- CONCLUSIONS: CTSK-associated cholesterol metabolic dysregulation in Macro-SPP1 may represent a potential molecular link between 6PPD-Q exposure and IPF-related fibrotic processes. The cholesterol-associated RORA/LDLR signaling axis may further contribute to macrophage-fibroblast interactions and the development of a pro-fibrotic microenvironment. These findings suggest a potential 6PPD-Q-CTSK-cholesterol regulatory axis and provide candidate molecular targets for future experimental validation and therapeutic investigation.

- Smoking exposures and mortality risk in individuals with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis: a UK Biobank cohort study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Active and passive smoking measures and ever-recorded IPF history were associated with mortality in this cohort. Evidence for positive additive interaction was confined to maternal smoking around birth and respiratory mortality and should be interpreted as hypothesis-generating. The observational findings do not establish causal or biological synergy and require replication in independent cohorts.

- Mechanosignaling Promotes Macrophage Apoptosis Resistance in Pulmonary Fibrosis via Metabolic Reprogramming. [Journal Article]bioRxiv. 2026 Sep 28.B
- The mechanisms underlying the progression of pulmonary fibrosis in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and other interstitial lung diseases remain unclear. Increased extracellular matrix stiffness is a hallmark of fibrotic lung diseases. Monocyte-derived macrophages can promote fibrosis progression. However, there is limited understanding of how the mechanical properties of the fibrotic microenvi…

- Lymphatic ERG Governs Junctional Plasticity and Fluid Clearance via an EDNRB Signaling Axis in Pulmonary Fibrosis. [Journal Article]bioRxiv. 2026 Sep 23.B
- Pulmonary lymphatic vessels are essential for interstitial fluid balance and macromolecular clearance, yet the endothelial mechanisms regulating lymphatic vessel function during chronic fibroproliferative lung injury remain undefined. Here, we demonstrate that the lineage-defining transcription factor ERG in lymphatic endothelial cells (LECs) governs junctional plasticity and fluid drainage in pu…

- Type 2 immune history trains lung macrophages for viral disease tolerance. [Journal Article]Nature. 2026 Sep 30. [Online ahead of print]Nat
- Severe respiratory viral disease varies widely among individuals and often reflects immunopathology rather than inadequate pathogen control, suggesting that previous immune history can prime the lungs towards disease tolerance. Here we show that nerve- and airway-associated macrophages (NAMs), a subset of interstitial macrophages, expand ephemerally after type 2 inflammation induced by Nippostron…

- Immature platelet fraction and reticulated platelet parameters as potential indicators of bone-marrow-related platelet production in dogs and cats: A scoping review. [Journal Article]PLoS One. 2026; 21(9):e0358333.Plos
- CONCLUSIONS: Evidence for IPF/reticulated platelets as a bone-marrow marker is considerably more developed in dogs than in cats. Feline data are essentially limited to a single retrospective analyzer study. Given the small number of studies and marked methodological heterogeneity, a full systematic review with meta-analysis is not currently feasible; a scoping review is the appropriate and informative synthesis at this stage.
