- Objective: To analyze the incidence and genetic characteristics of Sapovirus infection in pediatric diarrhea cases aged ≤5 years in Guangdong Province. Methods: Epidemiological data and stool samples were collected from hospitalized children aged ≤5 years with diarrhea in Guangdong between January 2022 and December 2024. Sapovirus RNA detection from stool samples was conducted by using real-time …

- Neonatal Unit Colonization Pressure and Acquisition of Extended-Spectrum β-Lactamase Gut Colonization. [Multicenter Study]
- CONCLUSIONS: In this cross-sectional study, ESBL colonization pressure was associated with individual risk of acquiring ESBL on the neonatal unit. Unit-level interventions targeting colonization rather than infection may have important direct and indirect benefits in units with high colonization pressure.

- Dengue Surge in Bangladesh: Exploring the Role of Climate Factors-A Narrative Review With Ecological Analysis. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The 2023 dengue outbreak in Bangladesh highlights a complex and multifactorial relationship between climate factors and dengue transmission. This highlights the need to prioritize climate change research, developing a tetravalent dengue vaccine, and implementing proactive vector control measures. Collaborative efforts involving health agencies, researchers, and policymakers are essential to combat this evolving public health challenge.

- Epidemiological Profiles of Respiratory Syncytial Virus Infection Among Hospitalized Children in a Tropical Setting: A Large Laboratory-Based Surveillance Study From Hainan, China. [Journal Article]J Med Virol. 2026 Sep; 98(9):e71137.JM
- Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a leading cause of acute respiratory infection in young children, yet subtype-specific and age-stratified epidemiological patterns remain incompletely characterised in tropical settings. To address this gap, we aimed to assess the age distribution and seasonal patterns of RSV infections in a large hospitalized paediatric population. We analysed surveillance da…

- The epidemiology of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in hospitalized children in Europe before the widespread implementation of new RSV prophylactic strategies: A systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]J Clin Virol. 2026 Oct; 186:105996.JC
- Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a leading cause of pediatric respiratory infections. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to estimate the in-hospital positivity among children in Europe post-COVID-19 and prior to the implementation of the recent RSV prophylactic strategies. A systematic search was conducted across three databases: PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science from 01/01/2021-31…

- Targeting the JAK/STAT pathway in chronic viral infections: opportunities and challenges for immunomodulation. [Review]
- The discovery of the Janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK/STAT) pathway as a key regulator of immune function and inflammation led to the development of JAK inhibitors (JAK-i), several of which are now approved for autoimmune and chronic inflammatory conditions. Recently, JAK-i have been repurposed for infectious diseases, most notably with baricitinib, a United Stat…

- Healthcare Encounters in the Week Preceding a Sepsis Hospitalization in Pediatric Patients. [Journal Article]Crit Care Med. 2026 Sep 04. [Online ahead of print]CC
- CONCLUSIONS: Over half of children hospitalized with sepsis were evaluated in the outpatient or emergency department setting in the week preceding admission, with one in five evaluated for infection. Further understanding of these pre-admission encounters may allow for earlier sepsis identification and possibly intervention in the prehospital setting.

- Natural occurrence of a slow lytic pseudomonas phage in a Pediatric case of multidrug-resistant P. aeruginosa severe pneumonia. [Journal Article]
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) is widely distributed in the environment. As an opportunistic pathogen, it commonly causes infections in immunocompromised individuals, including respiratory tract infections and burn wound infections. P. aeruginosa possesses multiple antibiotic resistance mechanisms, including efflux pumps, resistance genes, and population dynamics. Phage therapy is a poten…

- Airborne Virus Shedding of Respiratory Syncytial Virus Compared to Influenza A Virus in Hospitalized Patients. [Journal Article]
- Airborne transmission is an important route for the spread of respiratory viruses. To assess the potential for airborne shedding of influenza A virus (IAV) and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), this study compared the presence of viral RNA in air samples collected near hospitalized patients. Patients with IAV or RSV infection and a nasopharyngeal swab cycle threshold value of 28 or lower were in…

- Restoration of anti-bacterial innate immune cell function lags behind nutritional recovery among children convalescing from complicated severe acute malnutrition. [Journal Article]
- Children recovering from complicated severe acute malnutrition (SAM) have a high risk of infectious mortality and morbidity, which could reflect impaired anti-microbial defence. We used blood samples from a cross-sectional cohort of children under 5 years' old admitted to hospital with SAM in Zambia and Zimbabwe (cases, n = 125) and adequately nourished non-hospitalised children from the same com…

- MRSA in Tibet: high prevalence driven by the epidemic clone CC59-ST59-SCCmec IV-t437 and insights from whole-genome analysis. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: CC59-ST59-SCCmec IV-t437 is the predominant MRSA lineage in Tibet and shows substantial clonal overlap between HA-MRSA and CA-MRSA. These results support the use of whole-genome sequencing to guide empirical therapy and highlight the need for continued surveillance and targeted infection control in this high-burden region.
