  • Response-Tailored or Standard-Duration Antibiotic Treatment for Infective Endocarditis. [Journal Article]
    N Engl J Med. 2026 Aug 28. [Online ahead of print]Bundgaard H, Pries-Heje M, … POET II InvestigatorsNEJM
  • CONCLUSIONS: Among patients with infective endocarditis on the left side of the heart, the use of a response-tailored antibiotic strategy resulted in a longer time alive without antibiotic therapy than standard-duration therapy and met the criterion for noninferiority with respect to safety but was associated with a higher incidence of relapse of bacteremia or infective endocarditis. (Funded by Sygeforsikringen "danmark" and others; POET II ClinicalTrials.gov number, NCT03851575.).
  • Disseminated Bartonellosis Involving the Kidney and Heart. [Case Reports]
    Cureus. 2026 Jul; 18(7):e113462.Behjatnia H, Alvarez-Cardona J, … Carlan SC
  • Blood culture-negative infective endocarditis poses considerable clinical and diagnostic challenges because of its atypical manifestations and the difficulty in identifying the responsible pathogens. The involvement of Bartonella henselae, a rare etiologic agent of blood culture-negative infective endocarditis, further complicates diagnosis and management. Dissemination of Bartonella across multi…
  • Late Infection of a Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion Device Detected by Transesophageal Echocardiography. [Case Reports]
JACC Case Rep. 2026 Aug 26; 31(34):109542.Kallur AS, Delicce A, … Kort SJC
  • CONCLUSIONS: This case illustrates a rare instance of Watchman infection from hematogenous seeding and highlights the critical diagnostic role of transesophageal echocardiography.Persistent bacteremia in patients with left atrial appendage occlusion devices should prompt evaluation with transesophageal echocardiography for exclusion of device infection as demonstrated in this case.
  • Infective Endocarditis on Aortic Valve: From Diagnosis to Cardiac Surgical Intervention-Narrative Review. [Review]
    J Clin Med. 2026 Aug 20; 15(16).Loreni F, Fortuni F, … Bergonzini MJC
  • Infective endocarditis (IE) continues to represent a major challenge for global health systems. In 2019, its annual incidence was estimated at 13.8 cases per 100,000 individuals, contributing to approximately 66,300 deaths worldwide. Due to its high morbidity and mortality rates, enhancing preventive measures has become a priority in both clinical practice and ongoing research efforts. Since the …
  • Valve-Specific Anatomy and Structural Determinants of Susceptibility to Infective Endocarditis: A Review. [Review]
    J Clin Med. 2026 Aug 13; 15(16).Abd Rani MNH, Mohamed A, … Kamarudin TAJC
  • Background/Objectives: Infective endocarditis (IE) is a life-threatening cardiovascular infection with in-hospital mortality of 15-30% despite modern therapy. Contemporary IE demonstrates non-random valve involvement: aortic and mitral 35-45%, tricuspid 5-10% (30-50% in intravenous drug users [IVDU]), and pulmonary < 1%. These patterns implicate valve-specific anatomy and hemodynamics as central …
