- Hemimegalencephaly With Diffuse Cortical Malformation in a Child With Drug-Resistant Infantile Epileptic Spasms: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Sep; 18(9):e115613.C
- Hemimegalencephaly is a rare congenital malformation of cortical development involving hamartomatous overgrowth of part or all of one cerebral hemisphere. It commonly presents during infancy with early-onset, drug-resistant seizures, developmental impairment, and contralateral motor deficits. Infantile epileptic spasms may be an initial manifestation. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is cen…

- Graded Epidural Anaesthesia for Caesarean Section in the Presence of an Untreated Spetzler-Martin Grade V Cerebral Arteriovenous Malformation With Radiological Progression Over Six Years: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Sep; 18(9):e115598.C
- Cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are rare during pregnancy, when the haemodynamic and hormonal changes of gestation may increase the risk of rupture. Lesions that are large, located in eloquent regions, and drained by deep venous channels represent a surgically high-risk subtype, carry substantial surgical morbidity, and are frequently managed conservatively when unruptured. We describ…

- Late-onset atypical pseudohypoparathyroidism type 1A with intracranial calcification and epilepsy associated with a novel GNAS variant: a case report. [Case Reports]
- Pseudohypoparathyroidism (PHP) type 1A is a rare inherited disorder characterized by resistance to parathyroid hormone and, typically, features of Albright hereditary osteodystrophy. We report a late-onset case in a 59-year-old woman who presented with cognitive decline, behavioral and psychiatric symptoms, gait instability, and seizure-like episodes. Laboratory tests showed hypocalcemia, hyperph…

- Atypical late neurosyphilis presenting as status epilepticus: diagnostic and screening implications. [Journal Article]Acta Clin Belg. 2026 Oct 01; :1-7. [Online ahead of print]AC
- CONCLUSIONS: Neurosyphilis is not intrinsically difficult to diagnose, provided it is considered, including outside the classically recognised risk groups such as men who have sex with men.

- Discovery of Selective Small-Molecule Ligands of SV2C by AI-Enhanced Virtual Screening and Experimental Validation. [Journal Article]bioRxiv. 2026 Sep 22.B
- Synaptic vesicle glycoprotein 2C (SV2C) is a vesicular protein enriched in dopaminergic neurons of the basal ganglia that modulates dopamine storage and release, and its disruption is implicated in Parkinson's disease (PD). Despite strong genetic and pathological links to PD, there are no selective small-molecule probes for SV2C. Here, we describe an AI-enhanced virtual screening (VS) and experim…

- Breastfeeding and Neurodevelopmental Outcomes in Children of Women Taking Antiseizure Medications. [Multicenter Study]
- CONCLUSIONS: In this cohort study of children born to WWE, breastfeeding while taking contemporary ASM regimens was not associated with adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes at age 6 years. The observed improved adaptive behavioral outcome supports clinical recommendations for extended breastfeeding (≥6 months) in WWE.

- Post-Discharge Antiseizure Medication Use and Poststroke Survival: An Emulated Target Trial in Older Adults. [Journal Article]Pharmacoepidemiol Drug Saf. 2026 Oct; 35(10):e70489.PD
- CONCLUSIONS: Among older Medicare beneficiaries who initiated levetiracetam after AIS, continued outpatient use was associated with lower short-term 90-day mortality, particularly among patients aged ≥ 75 years. These findings should not be interpreted as support for routine or indefinite continuation, because the claims-based design cannot assess seizure recurrence, functional outcomes, quality of life, treatment indication, or potential neuropsychiatric harms.

- [A case of paroxysmal sympathetic hyperactivity following hypoxic brain injury with difficult treatment]. [Journal Article]Rinsho Shinkeigaku. 2026 Sep 26. [Online ahead of print]RS
- The patient was a woman in her 20s. In June of a certain year, she experienced cardiopulmonary arrest due to acute epiglottitis and was admitted to the ICU and required mechanical ventilation. From the first day of hospitalization, she exhibited generalized seizures and was diagnosed with acute symptomatic seizures following hypoxic brain injury. Treatment with diazepam and levetiracetam was init…

- Short-Term psychiatric stability after brivaracetam initiation in patients with Epilepsy: A prospective Observational study. [Journal Article]Epilepsy Behav. 2026 Sep 26; 185:111298. [Online ahead of print]EB
- CONCLUSIONS: Among treatment completers, BRV initiation was not associated with significant group-level worsening of aggression, depressive symptoms, or daytime sleepiness. These findings support short-term psychiatric stability among patients who continued BRV treatment in routine clinical practice. However, early discontinuation due to irritability in two patients indicates the need for monitoring behavioral adverse effects.

- Short-Term Renal Effects of Add-On Levetiracetam in Client-Owned Dogs with Idiopathic Epilepsy Receiving Phenobarbital: A Four-Week Prospective Study. [Journal Article]
- Levetiracetam (LEV) is commonly used as an adjunctive antiseizure medication (ASM) in dogs because of its favorable pharmacokinetic profile and limited hepatic metabolism. However, because LEV is predominantly eliminated through renal excretion, prospective clinical evidence regarding its effects on renal function in dogs remains limited. This prospective study evaluated short-term changes in ren…

- Comparative Neuropharmacological Effects of Antiseizure Drugs on Cultured Myenteric and Dorsal Root Ganglion Neurons. [Journal Article]
- Background/Objectives: Antiseizure drugs (ASDs) are the primary therapeutic approach for epilepsy in small animals. Although ASDs are primarily used to modulate central neuronal excitability, they are commonly administered systemically, most often by the oral route, and may therefore influence neuronal populations outside the central nervous system. Nevertheless, their functional effects on perip…
