- CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that the vestibular function of athletes in high-risk head trauma sports is unaffected by the practice of a high-risk head trauma sport. - CONCLUSIONS: We conclude that rTBI results in chronic auditory dysfunction via damage to the spiral ganglion which occurs in the absence of any reduction in hair cell number. This suggests early neuronal damage that may be caused by systemic mechanisms similar to those leading to the spread of neuronal death in the brain following TBI. This TBI-hearing loss model provides an important first step towards identifying therapeutic targets to attenuate damage to the auditory system following head injury.

- Pathway of care for visual and vestibular rehabilitation after mild traumatic brain injury: a critical review. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Many patients with visual and vestibular deficits following mTBI do not receive rehabilitation services until months following their injury as there is no standardized pathway to care for patients for visual and vestibular rehabilitation. Barriers to establishing a standardized pathway are the lack of natural history data for visual and vestibular function following mTBI and the lack of randomized clinical trials establishing the efficacy of rehabilitation in patients following mTBI.

- Characteristics of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo in Young Children. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: BPPV is a cause of vertigo in children that may be overlooked. A relatively high proportion of patients demonstrated horizontal or superior canal involvement, recurrence, and additional comorbid causes of dizziness. Thus, providers evaluating young children with dizziness should perform diagnostic maneuvers to evaluate BPPV of all semicircular canals and continue to monitor children after successful treatment for recurrence.

- CONCLUSIONS: VOD is common after concussion in acute, post-acute, and chronic phases. Once areas of impairments are identified through proper assessment, clinicians can maximize recovery by referring to vestibular physical therapy and/or neuro-optometry to design a targeted treatment program to address individual deficits.

- Understanding and Managing Trauma-Induced Vestibular Deficits. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Trauma-induced vestibular disorders are difficult to manage, as our level of understanding of the pathology can be poor and anatomical localization can also be difficult. Accordingly, a definitive diagnosis cannot be pinpointed in many patients, but an extensive history taking is crucial to determine the nature and extent of vestibular involvement. Trauma can not only result in microtrauma to the central nervous system but can also significantly affect peripheral vestibular structures, particularly the otolith organs. The committee hopes that better understanding of trauma to the vestibular system, along with improvements in the field of radiology and vestibular assessments, will aid in more precise techniques of pinpointing pathology in order to develop an adapted treatment plan.
