- Probable vestibular paroxysmia mimicking benign paroxysmal positional vertigo of the superior semicircular canal in the presence of a neurovascular conflict: a case report and review of the literature. [Case Reports]J Med Case Rep. 2026 Oct 07; 20(1).JM
- CONCLUSIONS: Positional vertigo resembling BPPV that is refractory to repositioning maneuvers or atypical should prompt reconsideration of the diagnosis. In particular, suspected superior canal BPPV requires heightened diagnostic caution and a comprehensive clinical assessment.

- Endovascular management of labyrintho-vascular otic capsule dehiscence (type II): A different therapeutical approach. [Journal Article]Eur Ann Otorhinolaryngol Head Neck Dis. 2026 Oct 09. [Online ahead of print]EA
- CONCLUSIONS: Endovascular management of type II OCD appears to be a safe and effective minimally invasive alternative in selected patients, particularly for vascular-related symptoms. The outcomes depend heavily on venous anatomy and meticulous preoperative imaging. While clinical outcomes are encouraging, limitations include technical feasibility and variable auditory results. Endovascular approaches may be considered a first-line option when anatomically suitable, with surgery reserved for selected or failed cases.

- Compartment-specific placental adaptation following feed restriction and refeeding in rabbits: implications for fetal development, reproductive performance and postnatal offspring viability. [Journal Article]Theriogenology. 2026 Oct 01; 268:118234. [Online ahead of print]T
- Placental development is highly sensitive to maternal nutrition and influences fetal growth and reproductive success. Moderate maternal feed restriction (FR) during gestation can reduce feeding costs on farms, but its impact on the placenta and productive performance in females and offspring remains unclear. This study characterised compartment-specific placental adaptations and their productive …

- BackgroundA petrous apex mucocele is a rare benign cystic lesion that can present with symptoms due to pressure on surrounding structures, including the internal carotid artery, Meckel's cave and the fifth and sixth cranial nerves, as well as the cavernous sinus region and inner ear.MethodsA 36-year-old male presented with 8 months of diplopia when looking to the right, a right-sided temporoparie…

- Three-dimensional CT evaluation of anatomical constraints during posterior lip drilling in the retrosigmoid approach to the internal auditory canal. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: CT-based three-dimensional assessment demonstrated patient-specific variation in drilling orientation as well as depth. This framework may support selective preoperative anatomical planning, but pathological and intraoperative validation is required before these measurements can be considered operative limits.

- Otologic Manifestations of Rheumatologic Disease. [Review]Rheum Dis Clin North Am. 2026 Nov; 52(4):671-685.RD
- Autoimmune inner ear disease (AIED) is a spectrum of diseases that may present solely as fluctuating sensorineural hearing loss triggered by unknown stimuli, or it may occur in association with other systemic rheumatic diseases. This article will review primary AIED as well as the etiologies of secondary AIED. It will also describe the epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management, inc…

- Enabling unenhanced endolymphatic hydrops MRI: a subtraction method using 3D-FLAIR sequences with different inversion time. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The endolymph and perilymph could be distinguished by this unenhanced 3D-FLAIR. Subtraction-based unenhanced MR imaging for EH evaluation provided high image quality and showed excellent agreement with the contrast-enhanced sequences.

- Congenital Nasal Encephalocele Presenting With Pneumococcal Meningitis and Subsequent Bilateral Sensorineural Hearing Loss: A Case Report of a Pediatric Patient. [Case Reports]
- Congenital nasal encephaloceles are rare anterior skull base defects that may predispose patients to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage and subsequent meningitis. While sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) is a known complication of pediatric meningitis, progression from an unrecognized nasal encephalocele to meningitis and bilateral profound hearing loss is infrequently reported. We describe a seven…

- Hippo-YAP/TAZ signaling in inner ear development, injury, and regeneration: evidence synthesis and the biomechanical brake hypothesis. [Review]Front Cell Dev Biol. 2026; 14:1878367.FC
- Sensorineural hearing loss in mammals is essentially irreversible. Mature cochlear hair cells, once lost, do not regenerate. Non-mammalian vertebrates retain this ability, but in the mammalian organ of Corti, supporting cells lose their proliferative and transdifferentiation competence after birth. Reactivation of classical developmental pathways has also shown limited success in the adult cochle…

- Effects of different morphological types of enlarged vestibular aqueduct on clinical onset and cochlear implantation. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: A wide and shallow vestibular aqueduct appears to render children more susceptible to inner ear damage induced by intracranial pressure fluctuations. This morphological predisposition likely contributes to earlier onset, greater severity, and more sudden progression of hearing loss, ultimately compromising postoperative speech rehabilitation outcomes.

- Multi-sequence MRI signal intensity ratios as candidate imaging correlates for audiovestibular dysfunction in vestibular schwannoma. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings demonstrate that specific inner ear MRI signal ratios serve as promising candidate imaging correlates for auditory impairment and low-frequency vestibular deficits in VS. Pre-contrast 3D-FLAIR and T2WI sequences offer distinct insights into inflammatory leakage and structural damage, respectively. The potential for these metrics to guide personalized management strategies remains to be evaluated in future studies. Large-scale multicenter investigations incorporating histopathologic verification are therefore needed to dissect these underlying mechanisms and develop predictive prognostic frameworks.

- Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, caused by prenatal alcohol exposure, remains a major public health concern, affecting up to 1 in 20 U.S. schoolchildren. Pregnancy is typically not recognized until six weeks of gestation, alcohol exposure often occurs unknowingly during the peri-conceptional period, a highly vulnerable developmental window of oocyte maturation. The placenta is increasingly recogn…

- A simple oral endotracheal intubation technique in rats using a modified 5-Fr vascular sheath and a commercially available ear-pick endoscope. [Journal Article]J Vet Med Sci. 2026 Oct 08. [Online ahead of print]JV
- Oral endotracheal intubation in rats is useful for cranial, thoracic, and survival experiments but remains technically demanding. We evaluated a simple method using a modified 5-Fr vascular sheath and a smartphone-connected ear-pick endoscope in 30 male Sprague-Dawley rats (8-12 weeks, 300-400 g). Under 3% isoflurane anesthesia and vecuronium bromide-induced neuromuscular blockade, the sheath was…

- Storytelling in Medical Terminology: The Myths, Tales, and Pop Legends of Otolaryngology. [Review]Laryngoscope. 2026 Oct 07. [Online ahead of print]L
- CONCLUSIONS: These eponyms serve not only as historical artifacts but also as cognitive and visual heuristics that condense complex anatomy, phenotype, and pathophysiology into memorable narrative constructs. Preserving awareness of these cultural roots enhances surgical education by leveraging the proven mnemonic power of storytelling and reminds clinicians that the language of medicine remains inseparable from the broader human experience.
