- GDMT is Associated with Reduced Loop Diuretic Requirements, Whereas Diuretic Dose Does Not Modify GDMT Benefit in Heart Failure: STRONG-HF. [Journal Article]Eur J Heart Fail. 2026 Oct 09. [Online ahead of print]EJ
- CONCLUSIONS: GDMT optimization acted as diuretic-sparing therapy: reaching target doses, particularly of all three classes, was associated with markedly lower LD requirement. LD dose mirrored HF severity but neither consistently predicted outcome nor modified the benefit of up-titration.

- Lung ultrasound-guided protocolized fluid management versus conventional central venous pressure-based management in monitoring extravascular lung water during the perioperative period of percutaneous nephrolithotomy: a randomized controlled trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]Ann Med. 2026 Dec; 58(1):2741437.AM
- CONCLUSIONS: An LUS-guided fluid management protocol integrating real-time EVLW assessment with predefined intervention thresholds outperformed conventional CVP-based management during the perioperative period of PCNL. The superior sensitivity of LUS for detecting early EVLW elevation, combined with protocolized early intervention, reduced postoperative hypoxemia incidence, shortened extubation time and PACU stay duration, and improved short-term perioperative recovery.

- Dose recovery after repeated drug administration via nasogastric feeding tubes under clinically relevant conditions: a novel in vitro model. [Journal Article]Int J Pharm. 2026 Oct 08; :127505. [Online ahead of print]IJ
- Administration of solid oral drug products via enteral feeding tubes (EFTs) is common due to the lack of suitable alternatives but is associated with substantial risk of drug loss. A novel in vitro setup was developed to simulate clinical administration, considering patient supine positioning, tube temperature control, tube diameter and material, and nutritional formula supply. Drug recovery of f…

- Insights from the therapy of heart failure at discharge (TESCODI) study: how far from full appropriateness are we in older and frail patients? [Journal Article]Arch Gerontol Geriatr. 2026 Oct 01; 152:106443. [Online ahead of print]AG
- CONCLUSIONS: Hospitalization is a pragmatic window for intensifying GDMT, even in very old, multimorbid patients. Residual gaps-especially for SGLT2-i and, to a lesser extent, RAAS-i- in the context of advanced age, dementia, and CKD call for targeted implementation strategies that balance efficacy, safety, and goals of care in frailty.

- Sunlight phototransformation of furosemide in the presence of natural photosensitizers: Experimental measures and modelling. [Journal Article]Ecotoxicol Environ Saf. 2026 Oct 08; 325:120893. [Online ahead of print]EE
- Phototransformation is an important attenuation process for pharmaceuticals in the aquatic environment. However, there are unknowns regarding the kinetics, products, and mechanisms of the sensitized photolysis of many pharmaceuticals induced by natural sensitizers. In this study, we systematically investigated the photochemical behavior and fate of the diuretic furosemide (FUR) under natural sunl…

- Bacterial aortic endarteritis with sepsis as a rare complication of aortic dissection in a cat. [Case Reports]
- A 14-year-old domestic shorthair cat was examined because of respiratory distress. Thoracic radiography showed a prominent aortic arch and no other abnormalities. Echocardiography documented a mobile flap within the ascending aorta creating 2 lumens, consistent with aortic dissection (AD), mild pericardial effusion with tamponade, left ventricular concentric hypertrophy, and normal left atrial si…

- Percutaneous balloon valvuloplasty in a small cat with pulmonary valve stenosis and concomitant tricuspid valve dysplasia. [Case Reports]Schweiz Arch Tierheilkd. 2026 Oct; 168(10):169-176.SA
- A 14-month-old, male castrated, 3,9-kg Singapura cat was referred for treatment of severe pulmonary valve stenosis associated with tricuspid valve dysplasia. The cat was pretreated with atenolol and scheduled for pulmonary balloon valvuloplasty. Because the right femoral vein could not accommodate a 5 Fr introducer, vascular access was obtained via the left external jugular vein, followed by righ…

- Exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are a leading cause of morbidity, mortality, and healthcare burden. While standard bronchodilator therapy alleviates airway obstruction, its efficacy is often limited. This study evaluated nebulized furosemide, which has bronchodilatory and anti-inflammatory effects, as an adjunct to salbutamol-ipratropium in hospitalized COPD patients…

- [A Case of Nephrotic Syndrome Developing Early After Initiation of Fruquintinib Therapy]. [Case Reports]Yakugaku Zasshi. 2026; 146(10):895-900.YZ
- Fruquintinib (FRU) is a vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR)-1, 2, 3 tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) approved for metastatic colorectal cancer. While hypertension, fatigue, and hand-foot syndrome are common adverse events, severe proteinuria and nephrotic syndrome are rare and has not been reported in clinical trials. A woman in her 60s with recurrent rectal cancer began fruquintin…

- Urinary sodium, baseline loop diuretic dose, and short-term outcomes in ambulatory worsening heart failure: The NaU/F Index. [Journal Article]Heart Lung. 2026 Sep 30; 80:102960. [Online ahead of print]HL
- CONCLUSIONS: In ambulatory WHF, NaU/F outperformed isolated urinary sodium for short-term risk stratification. Contextualizing natriuretic response to chronic loop diuretic exposure may refine prognostic assessment and warrants prospective validation.

- Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteremia causes substantial morbidity, but tissue reservoirs that permit bacterial persistence remain poorly defined. Using intravenous USA300 MRSA infection in mice, multiplexed imaging, dual-species transcriptomics, host and bacterial genetics, and cell-based assays, we uncovered the renal inner medulla, the site of urine concentration, as an…

- Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains a major challenge threatening global health. It has a high incidence with poor prognosis, and its response to current conventional therapies is not satisfactory, so we need to explore new effective therapies to address this problem. Targeted therapy represents a promising approach, but the therapeutic efficacy of targeting ion transporters and nuclear transp…
