- Thyroid-Liver Axis: Mechanistic Insights and Clinical Implications. [Review]Cureus. 2026 Jun; 18(6):e110637.C
- The thyroid gland and liver share a complex bidirectional relationship that is fundamental to metabolic regulation and hormonal homeostasis. Thyroid hormones (THs) regulate hepatic lipid handling, glucose metabolism, mitochondrial function, and energy balance, while the liver governs TH transport, activation, metabolism, and clearance. Increasing evidence links thyroid dysfunction with metabolic …

- Risk Factors and Clinical Predictors of Drug-Induced Hepatotoxicity in Patients Receiving First-Line Anti-tuberculosis Therapy. [Journal Article]Cureus. 2026 Jun; 18(6):e110655.C
- CONCLUSIONS: Drug-induced hepatotoxicity during first-line anti-TB therapy is associated with specific clinical, laboratory, and nutritional risk factors that can help identify patients at higher risk for developing this adverse outcome. Future research should focus on validating these predictors in larger populations and developing targeted monitoring and prevention strategies to improve treatment safety and outcomes.

- Acute portal vein thrombosis postimage-guided liver biopsy in common variable immunodeficiency. [Case Reports]Radiol Case Rep. 2026 Oct; 21(10):4292-4298.RC
- Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) is a rare complication following percutaneous liver biopsy, with an incidence below 0.4% in large multicenter series. We report a 51-year-old male with common variable immunodeficiency (CVID), chronic liver enzyme elevation, and preoperative imaging consistent with cirrhotic morphology, who developed acute abdominal pain within minutes of ultrasound-guided liver biops…

- Early Prediction of Diabetic Macular Edema via Machine Learning Survival Analysis on Checkup Data. [Journal Article]Ophthalmol Sci. 2026 Aug; 6(8):101262.OS
- CONCLUSIONS: Random survival forest demonstrated superior performance in relative risk prediction of DME using health checkup data. External validation remains an essential prerequisite before any clinical application.

- Liver stiffness measured by transient elastography is not predictive of mortality or adverse events in adult patients with Fontan associated liver disease. [Journal Article]Int J Cardiol Congenit Heart Dis. 2026 Sep; 25:100693.IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: In this relatively young cohort, with low mortality and no HCC during follow-up, no significant association was found between TE and AEs. Nevertheless, TE appeared to be useful in discriminating advanced FALD. As no convincing risk factor related to FALD severity or progression has been yet identified, a multidisciplinary approach to risk assessment and surveillance is advised to reduce the impact of FALD and prevent progression to HCC.

- A female manifesting carrier of DMD with exon 45 deletion: a case report. [Case Reports]Transl Pediatr. 2026 Jun 30; 15(6):256.TP
- CONCLUSIONS: For pediatric cases featuring unexplained hypertransaminasemia combined with high CK values, clinicians should stay highly alert to the possibility of DMD. Dynamic serial CK monitoring and full-scale genetic analysis should be arranged without delay to achieve early diagnosis and timely intervention, which can effectively optimize long-term prognosis for affected children.

- Laparoscopic management of a ruptured hepatic hydatid cyst with a cystobiliary fistula in an adolescent: a case report. [Case Reports]Ann Med Surg (Lond). 2026 Jul; 88(7):4568-4571.AM
- CONCLUSIONS: Laparoscopic management of ruptured hepatic hydatid cysts with cystobiliary fistula in adolescents is safe, feasible, and effective, provided meticulous surgical technique and structured postoperative care are applied.

- Real-World Efficacy and Safety of TACE Combined with Lenvatinib and PD-1 Inhibitor in Conversion Therapy for Unresectable Hepatocellular Carcinoma (GUIDANCE007): A Multicenter Retrospective Study. [Journal Article]Liver Cancer. 2026 May 06. [Online ahead of print]LC
- CONCLUSIONS: Adding PD-1 inhibitors to TACE plus lenvatinib was associated with improved tumor response, prolonged survival, and higher conversion surgery rates, with an acceptable safety profile. Given the heterogeneity of PD-1 inhibitors and inherent limitations of retrospective design, these findings should be considered hypothesis generating and require verification in prospective randomized controlled trials.

- In vivo toxicity study of Dittrichia viscosa (L.) greuter fractions: evidence of safety for oral and dermal applications. [Journal Article]Sci Rep. 2026 Jul 10. [Online ahead of print]SR
- Dittrichia viscosa (L.) is widely recognized in alternative medicine in the Mediterranean area for its therapeutic purposes. This study evaluates the acute and subacute toxicity of polar and non-polar extracts of D. viscosa when administered orally or applied topically. Toxicity tests were conducted at a dose of 2000 mg/kg on Wistar rats over 14 days for acute toxicity and 28 days for subacute to…

- Hyperammonaemic encephalopathy presenting as a stroke mimic with normal liver function tests. [Case Reports]BMJ Case Rep. 2026 Jul 10; 19(7).BC
- Hyperammonaemia is a potentially reversible cause of encephalopathy that can mimic focal neurological syndromes. A man in his 60s presented with light-headedness, vomiting and abdominal pain. He developed acute aphasia and right-sided weakness within 24 hours, and although serial CT brain imaging and CT angiography were normal, conscious level deteriorated rapidly, such that he required intubatio…

- Safety of concurrent radiation therapy with the antibody-drug conjugate polatuzumab vedotin in relapsed or refractory aggressive B-cell lymphomas. [Journal Article]Pract Radiat Oncol. 2026 Jul 10. [Online ahead of print]PR
- CONCLUSIONS: Delivery of PVRT is feasible with low rates of new onset toxicity. Acute HT was strongly associated with prior HT, though RT dose was associated with increased acute, but not subacute, HT grade. No unexpected toxicity was observed. Further prospective studies are needed to optimize integration of PV with RT.

- Transformation Discriminant Analysis for Constructing Optimal Biomarker Combinations. [Journal Article]Stat Med. 2026 Jul; 45(15-17):e70665.SM
- Accurate diagnostic tests are essential for effective screening and treatment. However, individual biomarkers often fail to provide sufficient diagnostic accuracy, as they typically capture only one aspect of the complex disease process. Combining multiple biomarkers, each capturing a distinct mechanism, can help construct more informative diagnostic tests. In practice, logistic regression is use…

- Spontaneous ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome in early singleton pregnancy with hepatic involvement: two case reports of atypical presentations. [Case Reports]Front Reprod Health. 2026; 8:1872608.FR
- CONCLUSIONS: These cases highlight that spontaneous OHSS should be considered in pregnant patients presenting with abdominal symptoms, ovarian enlargement, and abnormal liver function tests, even in the absence of assisted reproduction. The relationship between spontaneous OHSS and hepatic abnormalities remains incompletely understood, particularly in the presence of concomitant biliary disease. Further studies are needed to better characterize the hepatic manifestations, epidemiology, and underlying genetic mechanisms of this condition.
