- A scalable outpatient framework for BI-RADS 2-4B breast nodule management: an iodine-DMSO transdermal protocol. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: The exploratory implementation of the iodine-DMSO transdermal protocol yielded biologically coherent, imaging-detectable, and operationally reproducible response patterns compatible with short-interval physiological modulation. These findings support controlled outpatient and implementation-oriented investigations evaluating reproducibility, scalability, cost impact, and broader translational applicability.

- Artificial intelligence-based virtual iodine staining model for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma: a multicenter proof-of-concept study. [Multicenter Study]
- CONCLUSIONS: The virtual iodine-stained images generated by the CUT model provide superior lesion visibility and favorable feature distribution for ESCC. This pilot proof‑of‑concept study suggests that the CUT model holds promise as a potential alternative to conventional LCE and may offer a way to reduce patient discomfort. Its applicability warrants further investigation in larger prospective cohorts.

- Micro-computed tomography of termite gut anatomy: effects of staining regime on resolvability. [Journal Article]PeerJ. 2026; 14:e21334.P
- Examining anatomical features of exceptionally small animals presents significant challenges for researchers. Micro-Computed Tomographic (µ-CT) scanning coupled with target tissue staining has enabled many previously unseen structures of small insects to be mapped and measured in detail. Here we investigated the effectiveness of three staining regimes: Lugol's iodine solution (LS), LS plus 1% pho…

- Does preoperative administration of Lugol's solution in patients undergoing thyroidectomy for Graves' disease really improve surgical outcomes? A propensity score matching analysis from six high-volume centers (StELLinA study). [Multicenter Study]
- In patients with Graves' disease, the 2016 American Thyroid Association guidelines and 2018 European Thyroid Association guidelines recommend the administration of Lugol's solution prior to surgery. The objective of this study was to evaluate whether preoperative administration of this solution in patients undergoing thyroidectomy for Graves' disease really improves surgical outcomes. Patients wh…

- To dye or not to dye? Comparing real-world diagnostic performance of white light, electronic, and Lugol's chromoendoscopy for esophageal squamous neoplasia. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: An LCE-for-all strategy may be preferable when the priority is to maximize detection of early precancerous lesions such as LGIN, whereas a two-step strategy may achieve adequate detection of HGINA. With adequate training and strict quality control, ECE could serve as an alternative, while WLI alone is not recommended for EC screening.

- Propylthiouracil Induced Neutropenia in Thyroid Storm: A Case Requiring Urgent Total Thyroidectomy. [Case Reports]Int Med Case Rep J. 2026; 19:583884.IM
- Thyroid storm is a rare but life-threatening complication of hyperthyroidism that requires urgent management. While propylthiouracil (PTU) is a key treatment, it carries multiple risks, including potentially fatal risk of agranulocytosis. We report a 40-year-old female with Graves' disease who presented with thyroid storm and compressive goiter. High-dose PTU (1 g loading dose followed by 200 mg …

- Preoperative Lugol's solution and surgical outcomes in Graves' disease: a single-center retrospective study. [Journal Article]Front Surg. 2026; 13:1755477.FS
- CONCLUSIONS: The primary endpoint of postoperative hypocalcemia/hypoparathyroidism did not differ significantly between groups. Although the incidence of transient hypoparathyroidism was slightly higher in the LS group, no statistically significant difference was observed. Additionally, no significant difference was found regarding intraoperative or long-term outcomes. Present study did not demonstrate a protective effect of preoperative LS on surgical complications in patients with BG.

- A preliminary study to evaluate efficacy and safety of Lugol's solution following radioiodine for remnant ablation in differentiated thyroid cancer. [Journal Article]Front Oncol. 2026; 16:1783763.FO
- CONCLUSIONS: In this preliminary study, the addition of Lugol's Solution following RAI showed non-inferior ablation efficacy with a numerically lower incidence of long-term AEs, despite numerically higher short-term AE rates.

- Fetal imaging with microCT (µCT) in the age of AI. [Journal Article]Reprod Toxicol. 2026 Apr; 141:109199.RT
- Improving chemical and pharmaceutical safety while reducing animal use and development costs is a shared objective of industry, regulators, and the public. We describe a digital imaging pipeline designed to replace the method established by Wilson and Staples using external, visceral, and skeletal imaging of rat fetuses. Gestation day 21 fetuses from timed-mated Crl:CD[SD] rats were euthanized, f…

- Lack of predictive value of esophageal multiple lugol-voiding lesions for metachronous head and neck cancer in patients undergoing transoral surgery for superficial hypopharyngeal cancer. [Journal Article]

- Lugol's solution for preoperative management of a TSH/GH-secreting pituitary adenoma with suboptimal response to octreotide: a case report. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights Lugol's solution as a rescue therapy for SSA-insensitive TSH/GH co-secreting pituitary adenomas. Despite SSTR2/5 positivity, suboptimal response to octreotide suggests tumor heterogeneity or downstream signaling defects. Preoperative Lugol's solution should be considered when SSAs and methimazole fail.

- Premedication with Lugol's solution in total thyroidectomy for graves' disease and toxic multinodular goiter: is it still indicated? [Journal Article]
- Premedication with Lugol's solution (LS) has traditionally been used to reduce the vascularization and friability of the thyroid gland before total thyroidectomy in patients with Graves' disease (GD) and toxic multinodular goiter (TMNG) with thyrotoxicosis and/or with undetectable serum TSH. However, the effectiveness and applicability of this treatment remain subjects of debate. This study aims …
