- Pediatric Deaths during Measles Outbreak, Jerusalem, Israel, 2025-2026. [Journal Article]Emerg Infect Dis. 2026 Sep 30; 32(11). [Online ahead of print]EI
- Of 1,289 measles case-patients during April 2025-March 2026 in Jerusalem, Israel, 11 children died, a measles-specific mortality rate of 1.1 deaths/100,000 population. The measles-specific mortality rate among children <5 years of age was 7.7 deaths/100,000 population but 80.1 deaths/100,000 population in 6 neighborhoods populated by ultraorthodox Jews, a 47% measles-attributed death fraction.

- Influence of Intravenous Norepinephrine Administration on Melatonin Plasma Concentration in Awake and Anaesthetised Healthy Adult Volunteers. [Journal Article]J Pineal Res. 2026 Nov; 78(6):e70188.JP
- Melatonin (MEL) is an endogenous hormone that regulates circadian rhythm, immune function and oxidative stress responses. Norepinephrine (NE), an endogenous catecholamine, increases blood pressure through the sympathetic nervous system and is commonly administered intraoperatively or in the clinically ill patient for hemodynamic support. Although endogenous NE is known to stimulate MEL synthesis,…

- Cysteine Residues Are Required for the Sliding Clamp-Dependent Endonuclease Activity of Neisseria gonorrhoeae MutL. [Journal Article]Front Biosci (Landmark Ed). 2026 Sep 18; 31(9):55117.FB
- CONCLUSIONS: These results indicate that Cys residues are not directly involved in catalysis but provide the conformational rigidity of the C-terminal domain required for productive engagement with the sliding clamp.

- Measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccination under-recording in primary care in England: a two-stage cluster survey to inform vaccine optimisation. [Journal Article]Vaccine. 2026 Sep 29; 93:129216. [Online ahead of print]V
- CONCLUSIONS: We identified inconsistent coding of MMR vaccinations in primary care records, which is likely to have contributed to underestimation of national coverage over time. However, immunisation gaps persisted even after accounting for inaccurate coding. Recording and coding should continue to be improved, together with addressing barriers to vaccination uptake.

- Pseudoendocrine differentiation in colorectal adenoarcinoma associated with EPCAM-mutated Lynch syndrome. [Journal Article]Indian J Pathol Microbiol. 2026 Sep 28. [Online ahead of print]IJ
- Lynch syndrome (LS) is an autosomal dominant cancer predisposition syndrome caused by germline mutations in DNA mismatch repair genes or, less commonly, EPCAM deletions. LS-associated colorectal carcinomas often present at a young age and may show unusual histomorphological patterns, posing diagnostic challenges. We report a rare case of a 29-year-old female with EPCAM-mutated LS presenting as co…

- Targeting O6-methylguanine-DNA Methyltransferase Deficiency in Preclinical Models of Extracranial Human Cancers with a Tumor-Selective DNA-Modifying Agent. [Journal Article]Mol Cancer Ther. 2026 Sep 25; :OF1-OF17. [Online ahead of print]MC
- Temozolomide (TMZ) is an established therapy for gliomas with silencing of the DNA repair gene O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) but is hindered by the frequent development of resistance via loss of mismatch repair (MMR) proteins. To overcome this resistance, a novel 2-fluoroethylating agent, KL-50, was designed to generate toxic DNA interstrand cross-links specifically in MGMT-defici…

- Tumor-cell PD-L1 expression, mismatch repair status, and survival outcomes in colorectal carcinoma: a retrospective Pakistani cohort study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: ZR3-based tumor-cell PD-L1 TPS was not associated with clinicopathological characteristics or survival in this cohort. The high positivity rate should be interpreted as assay-specific, while the enrichment of MSI-H/dMMR tumors in the high-positive tier was consistent with established biology. ZR3-based TPS should remain a research measure and should not independently guide immunotherapy selection; MSI/MMR testing remains the clinically actionable biomarker for CRC.

- Projected effects of removing school-entry vaccination requirements on measles transmission in Florida. [Journal Article]Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. 2026 Oct 06; 123(40):e2610455123.PN
- Florida's proposal to remove vaccine mandates in the state raises urgent questions about the state's vulnerability to measles resurgence. We develop and analyze an age-structured measles transmission model with heterogeneous contact patterns between children and adults, calibrated using data from the 2025 measles outbreak in Gaines County, Texas, and applied to Florida using state-specific demogr…

- Tumor-immune microenvironment and nutritional status biomarkers predict recurrence after total colectomy for locally advanced colon cancer: development and internal validation of a nomogram. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: A nomogram integrating MMR status, TIL density, PD-L1 CPS, NLR, CEA, tumour stage, lymph node ratio, and perioperative nutritional indicators robustly predicts 3-year recurrence after total colectomy for locally advanced colon cancer (AUC = 0.841), substantially outperforming clinical-only models. These hypothesis-generating findings require prospective randomised validation before clinical implementation.

- Sex Differences in Sentiment-Scored Vocabulary Patterns in VAERS Free-Text Narratives of Four Major Vaccine Categories. [Journal Article]Biol Pharm Bull. 2026; 49(9):1561-1569.BP
- Free-text narratives in vaccine adverse event reports contain symptom descriptions and contextual wording that can be characterized using text mining. However, lexicon-based sentiment scores in medical narratives should be interpreted as vocabulary patterns rather than direct measures of patients' emotional states. We evaluated sex-specific and vaccine-specific patterns in sentiment-scored and em…

- Measles coinfection in an unvaccinated adolescent with secondary pulmonary TB - a case report. [Case Reports]Int J Infect Dis. 2026 Sep 27; :109154. [Online ahead of print]IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Measles-tuberculosis coinfection in an unvaccinated adolescent represents a complex clinical emergency with significant multisystem morbidity. MMR and BCG vaccination, active community screening, and directly observed therapy (DOT) remain the indispensable pillars of prevention.

- High-dimensional profiling following third MMR vaccination or mumps virus infection reveals individuals with suboptimal immunity. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Overall, our results indicate that a third MMR immunization boosts humoral and cellular responses in young adults albeit with clear distinct immune response profiles. This may enable the identification and more effective targeting of groups with suboptimal immunity.

- Waning Measles Immunity and Sustained Rubella Seroprotection Among Adults in Istanbul, Türkiye. [Journal Article]
- Background and Objectives: Despite long-standing MMR vaccination programmes, outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases continue to occur worldwide, raising concerns regarding waning immunity and susceptibility gaps in adult populations. Between 2017 and 2019 alone, WHO reported over 880,000 measles cases globally-a fourfold increase over the preceding two years-with outbreaks in both low- and hig…
