- A Quick Test of Cognitive Speed: Age-Related Cognitive Slowing and Screening Thresholds in Turkish-Speaking Adults. [Journal Article]Brain Behav. 2026 Sep; 16(9):e71767.BB
- CONCLUSIONS: The present findings provide preliminary sample-based reference values for perceptual and cognitive processing speed in typically developing Turkish adults and indicate age-related decline in normal AQT performance. Educational attainment showed a small-to-moderate negative association with naming times (r = -0.23 to -0.34, p < 0.05), suggesting relatively faster performance with higher education. These findings provide preliminary reference values, but require validation in larger, more diverse samples.

- Thalamofrontal synaptic weakening underlies short-term memory deficits from adolescent NMDAR hypofunction. [Journal Article]Sci Adv. 2026 Sep 25; 12(39):eaee2152.SA
- Thalamofrontal (TF) dysconnectivity is one of the most consistent circuit-level abnormalities reported in patients with schizophrenia and is linked to deficits in short-term memory (STM). However, the biological mechanisms underlying TF weakening remain unclear. Here, we show that repeated adolescent N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) antagonism produces STM deficits by impairing TF synaptic t…

- Neonatal enteric infection disrupts the microbiota-gut-brain axis through pattern recognition receptors and altered neuroimmune signaling. [Journal Article]Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. 2026 Sep 29; 123(39):e2606222123.PN
- Early-life enteric infection disrupts the developing microbiota-gut-brain (MGB) axis. Using a neonatal Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) model, we show that intestinal epithelial cell (IEC) nucleotide oligomerization domain (NOD)1 signaling coordinates neuroimmune outcomes throughout early development and into adulthood. Neonatal mice infected at postnatal day (P)7 exhibited ileal inflamma…

- "The flash of awakened consciousness": dream images in Freud and Benjamin. [Historical Article]Int J Psychoanal. 2026 Aug; 107(4):643-661.IJ
- This essay explores the role of visual images in dream imagery as a space where unconscious processes intersect with historical forces. It offers a comparative reading in Freud's Interpretation of Dreams (1900) and Benjamin's Arcades Project (1982). Freud conceptualizes dream images as condensed memory traces that navigate between perception and hallucination, revealing repressed desires. Convers…

- Brief disruption of activity in a subset of dopaminergic neurons during consolidation impairs long-term memory by fragmenting sleep. [Journal Article]Elife. 2026 Sep 23; 14.E
- Sleep disturbances are associated with poor long-term memory (LTM) formation, yet the underlying cell types and neural circuits involved have not been fully decoded. Dopamine neurons (DANs) are involved in memory processing at multiple stages. Here, using both male and female flies, Drosophila melanogaster, we show that, during the first few hours of memory consolidation, disruption of basal acti…

- Cognitive functioning as an underutilized determinant of treatment planning: a review in alcohol use disorder. [Review]Front Psychol. 2026; 17:1913195.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: Cognitive functioning is clinically relevant, but current evidence characterizes it predominantly as a prognostic marker rather than a demonstrated, actionable input into treatment planning. Dedicated research testing cognition-informed treatment allocation and adaptation is needed before its routine incorporation into AUD care can be recommended.

- Neuronal and Astrocytic Lipid Metabolic Coupling Mediates Ozone-Induced Learning and Memory Impairment. [Journal Article]Environ Health (Wash). 2026 Sep 18; 4(9):2069-2083.EH
- Surface ozone (O3) induces chronic oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation in the brain, increasing the risk of neurodegenerative disease. Lipid metabolic coupling between neurons and astrocytes is vital for brain health. However, its response to O3-induced oxidative stress remains largely unexplored. In this study, subacute O3 exposure (0.5 or 1.5 ppm, 4 h/day, for 28 days) resulted in learning …

- Age-Associated Cognitive Deviations in Early-Onset Psychosis Patients and Their Siblings. [Journal Article]Am J Psychiatry. 2026 Sep 23; :appiajp20251082. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: EOP probands and their siblings showed cross-sectional age-associated cognitive deviations at different ages, and in different functions. Early interventions targeting specific functions during specific developmental periods may prevent further cognitive deviation and impairment. However, longitudinal data are needed to confirm whether the cross-sectional findings reflect within-individual developmental deviation.
