- Antimicrobial susceptibility of Porphyromonas spp. isolated from dogs with periodontal disease in South Korea. [Journal Article]
- Porphyromonas spp. are oral anaerobes that play a key role in the pathogenesis of canine periodontal disease. Despite their clinical relevance in veterinary medicine, data on the antimicrobial susceptibility of canine Porphyromonas isolates remain limited. Therefore, we assessed the antimicrobial susceptibility of Porphyromonas spp. isolated from the subgingival plaque of dogs with periodontitis …

- Factors influencing the cure of pseudolithiasis: a retrospective study of 264 patients. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Our research indicates that, unlike chronic cholelithiasis, pseudolithiasis exhibits uniqueness and temporality. The underlying inflammatory gallbladder diseases and their treatments may facilitate the rapid resolution of pseudolithiasis, while factors such as viral hepatitis and decompensated cirrhosis may affect liver function and bile composition but do not appear to directly contribute to the occurrence of pseudolithiasis. Furthermore, differences in sex hormone levels may result in a higher rate of short-term resolution of pseudolithiasis in male patients compared to females. These findings provide preliminary evidence for the prevention and management strategies of pseudolithiasis.

- Benzalkonium chloride disinfection increases the difficulty of controlling foodborne pathogens identified in aquatic product processing. [Journal Article]
- Benzalkonium chloride (BAC) has been widely used as disinfectant in food processing, whereas there is still largely unknown concerning its profound and/or reverse effects on the pathogens control. This study was aimed to assess the effects of BAC disinfection on the controlling difficulty of foodborne pathogens, by investigating the growth rate, micromorphology, biofilm characteristics, and antib…

- Risk factors and drug resistance of adult community-onset urinary tract infections caused by Escherichia coli-producing extended-spectrum β-lactamase in the Chongqing region, China: a retrospective case-control study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Our results revealed high ESBL-EC detection rates. COUTIs caused by ESBL-EC are more likely to occur in patients with parenchymal tumour, a history of urolithiasis stone fragmentation, a history of urological surgery, hospitalisation within 6 months, indwelling catheter outside the hospital and use of third-generation cephalosporins. These patients were highly resistant to penicillins, cephalosporins and quinolones.

- Serum metabolomics analysis reveals potential biomarkers of penicillins-induced fatal anaphylactic shock in rats. [Journal Article]
- Immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated immediate hypersensitivity reactions are the most concerning adverse events after penicillin antibiotics (PENs) administration because of their rapid progression and potential for fatal outcome. However, the diagnosis of allergic death is a forensic challenge because it mainly depends on nonspecific characteristic morphological changes, as well as exclusion and cir…

- Salmonella spp. in Domestic Ruminants, Evaluation of Antimicrobial Resistance Based on the One Health Approach-A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. [Review]
- Salmonella spp. pose a global threat as a leading cause of foodborne illnesses, particularly prevalent in the European Union (EU), where it remains the second cause of foodborne outbreaks. The emergence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Salmonella spp. has become a critical concern, complicating treatment strategies and escalating the risk of severe infections. The study focuses on large and s…

- Ureidopenicillins Are Potent Inhibitors of Penicillin-Binding Protein 2 from Multidrug-Resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae H041. [Journal Article]
- Effective treatment of gonorrhea is threatened by the increasing prevalence of Neisseria gonorrhoeae strains resistant to the extended-spectrum cephalosporins (ESCs). Recently, we demonstrated the promise of the third-generation cephalosporin cefoperazone as an antigonococcal agent due to its rapid second-order rate of acylation against penicillin-binding protein 2 (PBP2) from the ESC-resistant s…

- Molecular Characterisation of Antimicrobial Resistance in E. coli Isolates from Piglets in the West Region of Romania. [Journal Article]
- Antibiotics are widely used for prophylaxis and therapy, reducing morbidity and mortality produced by bacterial pathogensin pigs, including infections caused by Escherichia coli. The aim of this study was to characterise antibiotic resistance phenotypes and genotypes in E. coli isolates in pigs in West Romanian grower farms. Differential phenotypic susceptibility profiles and the contribution of …

- Risk-factor analysis and predictive-model development of acute kidney injury in inpatients administered cefoperazone-sulbactam sodium and mezlocillin-sulbactam sodium: a single-center retrospective study. [Journal Article]
- Objective: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common adverse reaction observed with the clinical use of cefoperazone-sulbactam sodium and mezlocillin-sulbactam sodium. Based upon real-world data, we will herein determine the risk factors associated with AKI in inpatients after receipt of these antimicrobial drugs, and we will develop predictive models to assess the risk of AKI. Methods: Data from all…

- Optimal timing for antimicrobial prophylaxis to reduce surgical site infections: a retrospective analysis of 531 patients. [Journal Article]
- It has been revealed that the administration of an antimicrobial prophylaxis (AP) reduces the rate of surgical site (SSI) following colorectal cancer surgery. Nevertheless, the optimal timing of this medication remains unclear. The aim of this study was to determine more precisely the optimal time for administering antibiotics and to see if this could reduce the number of possible surgical site i…

- Characterization, estimation of virulence and drug resistance of diarrheagenic escherichia coli (DEC) isolated from Tibetan pigs. [Journal Article]
- In this study, we collected feces of Tibetan piglets from Nyingchi area for isolation, culture, identification, virulence gene analysis and drug resistance analysis of Escherichia Coli. The results demonstrated a 41.3% isolation rate of Diarrheagenic Escherichia Coli from Tibetan pigs with the main phylogenetic groups: group A (68.6%) and group B2 (15.7%). Typical E.coli accounted for 76.5%. The …

- Metagenomic next-generation sequencing contributes to the diagnosis of mixed pulmonary infection: a case report. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: Here, we demonstrated that mNGS was capable of accurately distinguishing Cryptococcus from M. tuberculosis in pulmonary infection, and notably mNGS was capable of swiftly and precisely detecting pathogens in mixed bacterial and fungal pulmonary infection. Furthermore, the results of mNGS also have the potential to adjust anti-infective therapies.
