- Drug-repurposing strategies have been widely explored to accelerate the development of new treatments for Chagas disease, leveraging compounds with previously established safety profiles. Among these, azole antifungals have attracted attention due to their inhibitory activity against 14-α-lanosterol demethylase (CYP51), an enzyme also present in Trypanosoma cruzi and essential for its ergosterol …

- Microbial profiles and antimicrobial susceptibility in recurrent and non-recurrent canine otitis externa in Brazil. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: S. pseudintermedius and M. pachydermatis were the most common microorganisms recovered from canine otitis externa. The substantial fluoroquinolone resistance among bacterial isolates supports culture and susceptibility testing rather than empirical therapy. Variable antifungal resistance among M. pachydermatis isolates, particularly in recurrent cases, warrants further investigation. These findings provide baseline data for antimicrobial surveillance and stewardship in canine otitis externa in Brazil.

- Antifungal Dispensing in Denmark: Patterns Across Primary Care, Secondary Care, and Over-the-Counter Sectors. [Journal Article]
- Fungal infections pose a significant health burden in Denmark. Increasing global antifungal use and emerging antifungal resistance underscore the need for ongoing characterization of national prescribing trends to inform antifungal stewardship. Danish Health Data Bank Medstat site was accessed to assess total antifungal dispensing in Denmark from 1996 to 2025 across primary care, secondary care (…

- Dual mucoadhesive nanoparticle-hydrogel platform for sustained intravaginal miconazole delivery with anti-biofilm activity against vulvovaginal candidiasis. [Journal Article]
- Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC), primarily caused by Candida albicans, remains a global health concern, and conventional therapies struggle to maintain effective drug concentrations at the infection site. Miconazole (MIC)-loaded polymeric nanoparticles (MIC-PNPs) were prepared by nanoprecipitation, and Eudragit E 100 concentration, polyvinyl alcohol concentration, and organic-to-aqueous phase rati…

- Vulvovaginal Candidiasis in Pregnancy: Species Distribution and Antifungal Resistance Patterns to Commonly Used Topical Azoles at a Tertiary Care Center in Central India. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Candida albicans remained the predominant cause of VVC among pregnant women. Clotrimazole demonstrated lower MIC values than miconazole in this study, indicating greater in vitro activity based on the observed MIC distribution. Continued surveillance of antifungal susceptibility patterns and the establishment of validated CBPs for topical azoles against Candida species are essential for improving understanding of emerging antifungal resistance and supporting evidence-based management of VVC.

- Dematiaceous fungal keratitis: prevalence, spectrum, clinical features, outcome, and antifungal susceptibility from a tertiary care centre in North India. [Journal Article]Med Mycol. 2026 Aug 29; 64(9).MM
- Fungal keratitis (FK) is a sight-threatening corneal infection that leads to corneal blindness. Dematiaceous fungal keratitis (DFK) emerged as the predominant cause of FK, followed by Aspergillus spp. and Fusarium spp. This study aimed the prevalence, species distribution, associated clinical features, risk factors, and antifungal susceptibility for keratitis caused by dematiaceous fungi. A prosp…

- [Comparison of chiral separation performance of (2-hydroxyethyl-β)-cyclodextrin bonded superficially porous and fully porous particle chiral stationary phases in supercritical fluid chromatography and reversed-phase liquid chromatography]. [Journal Article]
- Chromatography remains a cornerstone technique in analyzing chiral compounds. The development and selection of chiral stationary phases (CSPs) are central to achieving high-resolution enantiomeric separation. This study presents a novel regeneration and functionalization strategy for the preparation of high-performance superficially porous particle (SPP)-CSP, offering a promising alternative to c…

- Prenatal antifungal exposure disrupts fetal steroidogenesis and is associated with persistent effects in children. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: These translational findings suggest that commonly used antifungal agents alter fetal adrenal steroidogenesis and influence reproductive development, with effects persisting into postnatal life. Given their widespread use and over-the-counter availability, the safety of topical azole use during pregnancy may warrant re-evaluation.

- Severe Adult Kerion Celsi With Rapid Improvement During Systemic Antifungal and Adjunctive Secretome Therapy: A Case Report. [Case Reports]
- Kerion celsi is a severe inflammatory form of tinea capitis that is uncommon in adults and may mimic bacterial furunculosis, abscess, or cellulitis, resulting in delayed diagnosis and antibiotic-only treatment. We report a 48-year-old woman with a one-month history of a painful, purulent, crusted lesion on the left temporal and retroauricular scalp, localized alopecia, and ipsilateral periorbital…
