  • Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed®): Caffeine [BOOK]
Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed®). National Institute of Child Health and Human Development: Bethesda (MD).BOOK
  • Caffeine appears in breastmilk rapidly after maternal ingestion. Insufficient high-quality data are available to make good evidence-based recommendations on safe maternal caffeine consumption.[1] Fussiness, jitteriness and poor sleep patterns have been reported in the infants of mothers with very high caffeine intakes equivalent to about 10 or more cups of coffee daily. Studies in mothers taking …
  • Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed): Acetaminophen [BOOK]
Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed). National Library of Medicine (US): Bethesda (MD).BOOK
  • Acetaminophen is a good choice for analgesia, and fever reduction in nursing mothers. Amounts in milk are much less than doses usually given to infants. Adverse effects in breastfed infants appear to be rare.
  • Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed®): Pamabrom [BOOK]
Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed®). National Institute of Child Health and Human Development: Bethesda (MD).BOOK
  • No information is available on the clinical use of pamabrom during breastfeeding. If the mother requires pamabrom, it is not a reason to discontinue breastfeeding. Monitor the infant for excessive urination, adequate weight gain and skin rash.
  • Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed): Pyrilamine [BOOK]
Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed). National Library of Medicine (US): Bethesda (MD).BOOK
  • Small, occasional doses of pyrilamine are probably acceptable during breast feeding. Larger doses or more prolonged use may cause effects in the infant or decrease the milk supply, particularly, in combination with a sympathomimetic such as pseudoephedrine or before lactation is well established. The nonsedating antihistamines are preferred alternatives.
  • Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed): Ibuprofen [BOOK]
Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed). National Library of Medicine (US): Bethesda (MD).BOOK
  • Because of its extremely low levels in breastmilk, short half-life and safe use in infants in doses much higher than those excreted in breastmilk, ibuprofen is a preferred choice as an analgesic or antiinflammatory agent in nursing mothers.
  • Opuntia ficus indica's effect on heart-rate variability in high-level athletes. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
Int J Sport Nutr Exerc Metab. 2008 Apr; 18(2):169-78.Schmitt L, Fouillot JP, … Midol AIJ
  • Opuntia ficus indica (OFI) has many physiological effects, but a relationship between OFI and heart-rate variability (HRV) has never been established. The aim of this study was to describe the effects of a diet supplement of OFI on HRV in athletes. The first day, heart rate (HR) was measured at rest in supine (SU) and standing (ST) positions to analyze HRV in 10 athletes, followed by a randomized…
  • Serum sickness-like reaction to Pamabrom. [Case Reports]
J Drugs Dermatol. 2006 Mar; 5(3):284-6.Swanson JK, English JCJD
  • Pamabron is a common over-the-counter diuretic used for relief of menstrual-associated symptoms. An urticarial eruption, with systemic complaints consistent with a serum sickness-like reaction, attributed to Pamabron is described. A review of the literature concerning Pamabron and dermatology is discussed.
  • Is acetaminophen, and its combination with pamabrom, an effective therapeutic option in primary dysmenorrhoea? [Review]
Expert Opin Pharmacother. 2004 Mar; 5(3):561-70.Di Girolamo G, Sánchez AJ, … González CDEO
  • Primary dysmenorrhoea is the most frequent gynaecological condition, with a prevalence of 40 - 90% in women within the reproductive age. It is characterised by cyclic pelvic pain related to menstrual period, vomiting and headache. As prostaglandins and leukotrienes appear to be a major causative factor in this condition, NSAIDs are the first choice for treatment. Acetaminophen is an over-the-coun…
  • Cinnamedrine: potential for abuse. [Case Reports]
J Toxicol Clin Toxicol. 1983 Mar; 20(1):93-9.Fellows KW, Giannini AJJT
  • Three cases of psychological dependence upon the over-the-counter preparation of cinnamedryl, caffeine and aspirin (Midol) are reviewed. The relationship between cinnamedryl, amphetamine and other sympathomimetics is discussed. Similarities are noted in symptomatic response and chemical structure.
