- Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed): Ethinyl Estradiol [BOOK]Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed). National Library of Medicine (US): Bethesda (MD).BOOK
- This record contains information specific to ethinyl estradiol used alone. Users with an interest in an oral contraceptive should consult the record entitled, "Contraceptives, Oral, Combined." There is little information available on the use of ethinyl estradiol alone during breastfeeding. Levels in milk appear to be low. Based on studies on oral contraceptives that contain ethinyl estradiol, imm…
- Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed): Norethindrone [BOOK]Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed). National Library of Medicine (US): Bethesda (MD).BOOK
- This record contains information specific to oral norethindrone used alone for contraception. Those with an interest in a combination oral contraceptive should consult the record entitled, Contraceptives, Oral, Combined. No information is available on the use of high-dose norethindrone acetate during breastfeeding. Although nonhormonal methods are preferred during breastfeeding, progestin-only c…
- PREE: Heuristic builder for reverse engineering of network protocols in industrial control systems. [Journal Article]
- Industrial control systems (ICS) play a critical role in the operation of our vital infrastructures. They consist of field sites and a control center, with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) used at field sites to control physical processes directly. These systems communicate with the control center using proprietary protocols for remote monitoring, control, and configuration. The ability to r…

- The people behind the papers - Zoran Gajic, Diljeet Kaur, Julie Ni and Sam Gu. [Interview]Development. 2022 Aug 15; 149(16).D
- Endogenous siRNAs play important roles in silencing 'non-self' DNA elements but how the pathway distinguishes between self and non-self is unclear. In a new paper, Sam Gu and colleagues identify siRNA suppression as a mechanism for silencing 'self' siRNA. We caught up with the first authors, Zoran Gajic, Diljeet Kaur and Julie Ni, and the corresponding author, Sam Gu, Associate Professor at Rutge…

- Evaluation of the optimal performance of ModiCon and ModiCon+VariCol simulated moving bed variants. [Journal Article]J Chromatogr A. 2022 Jul 19; 1675:463182.JC
- The interest in the simulated moving bed (SMB) technology lies in its variants. Some of them that have a high potential to increase the performance in enantioseparations are the ModiCon and the ModiCon+VariCol. These variants are based on the modulation of feed concentration and a combination of feed concentration and length of zones modulations. The concept of the ModiCon process in the literatu…

- Optimal performance comparison of the simulated moving bed process variants based on the modulation of the length of zones and the feed concentration. [Journal Article]
- The VariCol and ModiCon processes are two variants of the simulated moving bed (SMB) process, characterized by the modulation of the length of zones of the chromatographic column train and the feed concentration. These features give more flexibility than the conventional operation, leading to essential improvements in the separation and purification of mixtures. The optimal performance comparison…

- Hormonal contraception in women with endometriosis: a systematic review. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: CHCs and POCs are effective for the relief of endometriosis-related dysmenorrhoea, pelvic pain and dyspareunia, and improve QoL. Some COCs decreased the risk of disease recurrence after conservative surgery, but POCs did not. There is insufficient evidence, however, to reach definitive conclusions about the overall superiority of any particular hormonal contraceptive.

- Evidence for view-invariant face recognition units in unfamiliar face learning. [Journal Article]
- Many models of face recognition incorporate the idea of a face recognition unit (FRU), an abstracted representation formed from each experience of a face which aids recognition under novel viewing conditions. Some previous studies have failed to find evidence of this FRU representation. Here, we report three experiments which investigated this theoretical construct by modifying the face learning …
- Prelimbic to Accumbens Core Pathway Is Recruited in a Dopamine-Dependent Manner to Drive Cued Reinstatement of Cocaine Seeking. [Journal Article]
- Glutamate inputs to nucleus accumbens (NAc) facilitate conditioned drug-seeking behavior and primarily originate from medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC), basolateral amygdala (BLA), and ventral subiculum of the hippocampus (vSub). These regions express Fos (a marker of neural activity) during cue-induced reinstatement of cocaine seeking, but only subpopulations of neurons within these regions drive …

- Combinatorial Solid-Phase Synthesis and Biological Evaluation of Cyclodepsipeptide Destruxin B as a Negative Regulator for Osteoclast Morphology. [Journal Article]
- Combinatorial synthesis and biological evaluation of cyclodepsipeptide destruxin B have been achieved. The cyclization precursors were prepared by solid-phase peptide synthesis via a split and pool method utilizing SynPhase lanterns with colored tags and cogs, followed by cleavage from the polymer-support. Macrolactonization utilizing MNBA-DMAPO in solution-phase was successfully performed in par…

- Optimization of reactive simulated moving bed systems with modulation of feed concentration for production of glycol ether ester. [Journal Article]
- In this article, we extend the simulated moving bed reactor (SMBR) mode of operation to the production of propylene glycol methyl ether acetate (DOWANOL™ PMA glycol ether) through the esterification of 1-methoxy-2-propanol (DOWANOL™ PM glycol ether) and acetic acid using AMBERLYST™ 15 as a catalyst and adsorbent. In addition, for the first time, we integrate the concept of modulation of the feed …

- Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic interactions between the hepatitis C virus protease inhibitor, boceprevir, and the oral contraceptive ethinyl estradiol/norethindrone. [Clinical Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: Serum progesterone, LH, and FSH levels indicate that ovulation was suppressed during coadministration of boceprevir with EE/NE. Coadministration of boceprevir with combined oral contraceptives containing EE and ≥1 mg of NE is therefore unlikely to alter contraceptive effectiveness. The ovulation suppression activity of oral contraceptives containing lower doses of NE, and of other forms of hormonal contraception during coadministration with boceprevir, has not been established.

- Hypertriglyceridemic Pancreatitis Caused by the Oral Contraceptive Agent Estrostep. [Case Reports]
- Norethindrone acetate/ethinyl estradiol (Estrostep; Warner Chilcott, Rockaway, New Jersey) is an "estrophasic" type of oral contraceptive, which combines a continuous low progestin dose with a gradually increasing estrogen dose. In clinical trials, this medication failed to produce clinically significant changes in serum lipid levels. We report a case of severe hypertriglyceridemia-induced acute …

- Lack of an effect of rilpivirine on the pharmacokinetics of ethinylestradiol and norethindrone in healthy volunteers. [Clinical Trial, Phase I]
- CONCLUSIONS: Co-administration of rilpivirine, at the therapeutic dosing regimen, with ethinylestradiol/norethindrone does not affect hormone pharmacokinetics, and is, therefore, unlikely to affect the efficacy or safety of this oral hormonal contraceptive. Rilpivirine pharmacokinetics was not affected by ethinylestradiol/norethindrone. Rilpivirine (25 mg once daily) can be co-administered with ethinylestradiol/norethindrone-based contraceptives without dose modification.

- Longitudinal progression of frontal and temporal lobe changes in schizophrenia. [Journal Article]
- Cortical abnormalities are considered a neurobiological characteristic of schizophrenia. However, the pattern of such deficits as they progress over the illness remains poorly understood. The goal of this project was to assess the progression of cortical thinning in frontal and temporal cortical regions in schizophrenia, and determine whether relationships exist between them and neuropsychologica…
