- Machine learning prediction of the change in sleepiness following continuous positive airway pressure in obstructive sleep apnea: a multi-cohort analysis. [Journal Article]Sleep. 2026 Aug 20. [Online ahead of print]S
- CONCLUSIONS: Models incorporating baseline ESS and either ventilatory burden or AHI predict ESS improvement and may help identify patients with OSA likely to benefit from CPAP. The ventilatory burden model demonstrated modestly better performance, while the AHI-based model offers greater clinical applicability.

- Obstructive Sleep Apnea and the Risk of Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke Among Patients With Cancer: Analyses From a Multicenter Electronic Health Care Records-Based Database. [Journal Article]J Am Heart Assoc. 2026 Aug 20; :e045805. [Online ahead of print]JA
- CONCLUSIONS: OSA significantly increases the risk of CVD events in patients with cancer, especially heart failure in women, regardless of obesity status. These findings support routine OSA screening and potential early intervention in oncology populations to mitigate CVD risk.

- Pre- and Post-treatment Changes in Systemic Inflammatory Biomarkers After Oral Appliance Therapy for Obstructive Sleep Apnea: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. [Review]Cureus. 2026 Jul; 18(7):e113045.C
- Systemic inflammation often accompanies obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), along with higher chances of heart-related metabolic issues. Although oral appliances serve as an accepted option instead of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), their influence on markers of systemic inflammation lacks clear evidence. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to assess changes in systemic…

- Exploring the impact of a medical device recall on individuals with obstructive sleep apnea and healthcare providers: a qualitative study. [Journal Article]Sleep Adv. 2026; 7(3):zpag077.SA
- CONCLUSIONS: The Philips positive airway pressure device recall exposed gaps between regulatory frameworks and real-world implementation, with broad individual and system-level impacts. Future recalls should prioritize accountability, coordination, and patient-centered support.

- Reframing MASLD: A Hepatic Condition With Systemic Clinical Impact. [Review]J Clin Exp Hepatol. 2026 Nov-Dec; 16(6):103631.JC
- This review synthesizes current evidence describing the systemic implications of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), with emphasis on its extrahepatic complications and underlying pathophysiological mechanisms. A narrative literature review was conducted using PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. The search included studies published between 19…

- Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is a rapidly progressive autoimmune demyelinating condition that primarily affects the central nervous system. The exact pathogenesis is not well understood, but current literature suggests roles for both environmental triggers and genetic predispositions. Myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated disease (MOGAD) is an increasingly recogni…

- Advances in cardiovascular risk assessment indicators in obstructive sleep apnea. [Review]Front Public Health. 2026; 14:1878113.FP
- Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a highly prevalent sleep-related breathing disorder that is closely associated with cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Although the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) remains the conventional metric for diagnosing and grading OSA severity, it inadequately reflects the heterogeneous pathophysiological burden of the disease and has limited predictive value for cardiova…

- Effects of Obstructive Sleep Apnea on Personality and Temperament: A Cohort and Mendelian Randomization Study. [Journal Article]World J Otorhinolaryngol Head Neck Surg. 2026 Aug 19. [Online ahead of print]WJ
- CONCLUSIONS: OSA may contribute to reduced neuroticism and altered temperament, highlighting the need for psychological screening in OSA management. Caution is warranted in interpreting causality due to modest MR effect sizes and potential heterogeneity.

- The relationship between vertigo severity, psychiatric symptoms and obstructive sleep apnoea. [Journal Article]J Otol. 2026 Jul; 21(3):177-182.JO
- CONCLUSIONS: Our analysis indicates a connection between the severity of vertigo symptoms and the severity of OSA. Additionally, the significant correlation between psychiatric symptoms and OSA severity emphasises the need to consider these factors when managing OSA patients in everyday practice.

- Clinicians' perspectives on machine learning for obstructive sleep apnoea detection: a human factors study. [Journal Article]Front Digit Health. 2026; 8:1878569.FD
- Obstructive sleep apnoea is a common sleep disorder affecting 5%-15% of the population, with many going undiagnosed due to accessibility issues and long waiting lists. This is due to the bottleneck method of diagnosis, which is polysomnography. The implementation of machine learning, particularly when applied to a reduced set of physiological signals, has the potential to enhance accessibility an…

- Clinical factors associated with arrhythmia in obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome: a retrospective cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]Front Cardiovasc Med. 2026; 13:1775781.FC
- Obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) is frequently associated with cardiac arrhythmias; however, the clinical factors associated with concurrent arrhythmia in this population remain incompletely characterized. This study investigated factors associated with arrhythmia in patients with OSAHS, with particular focus on the monocyte-to-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (MHR). In…

- Sex-specific upper airway morphological alterations are associated with obstructive sleep apnea severity in Down syndrome. [Journal Article]Res Sq. 2026 Aug 06.RS
- Individuals with Down syndrome (DS) have a high risk of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), likely driven by craniofacial and upper airway abnormalities. However, three-dimensional upper airway morphology and its association with OSA severity remain poorly characterized. Here, we provide the first comprehensive three-dimensional characterization of upper airway volume and shape in adults with DS and e…

- Establishing a physiological normative value of area-based hypoxic burden in obstructive sleep apnea. [Journal Article]medRxiv. 2026 Aug 03.M
- CONCLUSIONS: A physiologically derived cutoff of 8.6% min/h for HDA effectively distinguishes physiological profiles across respiratory, arousal, and oxygenation domains and generalizes across multiple cohorts. Those with elevated HDA had a higher prevalence of incident CVD outcomes, although observed relationships were attenuated after further adjustment. Our findings provide a physiologically interpretable threshold for HDA that can be readily used in clinical use.
