- Spinal neurocysticercosis: synthesizing evidence on clinical presentations, anatomical patterns, diagnostic approaches, and therapeutic strategies. [Review]Future Microbiol. 2026 Oct 15; :1-12. [Online ahead of print]FM
- Spinal neurocysticercosis (NCC) is an uncommon manifestation of NCC involving the spinal cord, meninges, nerve roots, and subarachnoid spaces. Although less common than intracranial disease, spinal involvement can cause substantial neurological morbidity because even small lesions within the confined spinal canal may produce progressive myelopathy. Disease may result from hematogenous disseminati…

- Female Representation and Quality Indicators in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Podcasts. [Journal Article]Acta Anaesthesiol Scand. 2026 Nov; 70(10):e70356.AA
- CONCLUSIONS: While a sex imbalance persists in anesthesiology and critical care podcasting, female participation among US-based podcasts exceeds local workforce demographic benchmarks, with a clear positive trend from 2010 to 2024. However, persistent sex similarity in speaker selection suggests ongoing biases. Quality assurance mechanisms remain highly variable, highlighting opportunities for incremental improvement. Future efforts could focus on structured guest selection and transparent quality indicators to accelerate progress toward equitable representation and educational quality in this influential medium.

- Periprocedural Wound Complication Risks in Cancer Pain Patients Following Targeted Cancer Therapy: A Retrospective Analysis. [Journal Article]Cancer Rep (Hoboken). 2026 Oct; 9(10):e70664.CR
- CONCLUSIONS: Our study suggests that concurrent targeted cancer therapies may be associated with an increased risk of wound-related complications, although the estimate is imprecise given a heterogeneous cohort and a small number of events. It is essential for pain physicians to understand the potential risks associated with these cancer treatments and to collaborate with oncologists in the periprocedural period to optimize patient care.

- The critical role of maxillofacial surgeons in pain prevention and opioid consumption reduction. [Review]J Opioid Manag. 2026 Sep-Oct; 22(5):513-524.JO
- CONCLUSIONS: This review consolidates evidence indicating that a combination of stringent prescribing practices, multimodal analgesia, and regional anesthetic techniques can significantly reduce opioid dependence. To prevent opioid overprescription, it is essential to enforce strict regulatory measures, closely monitor prescriptions, establish regional guidelines, and avoid just-in-case prescribing. Effective strategies for improving post-operative outcomes and reducing opioid dependence include multimodal and pre-emptive analgesia, as well as post--operative anesthetic blocks. The findings provide a consolidated evidence base to guide maxillofacial surgeons in implementing these strategies, directly addressing the opioid crisis within the specialty.
