- Drug-associated bipolar disorder: A disproportionality analysis of the FAERS database. [Journal Article]Psychiatry Res. 2026 Nov; 365:117375.PR
- CONCLUSIONS: Most high BD-signal drugs lack label warnings. Drug-induced BD presents distinct sex and subtype-specific risks, requiring gender- and subtype-personalized clinical monitoring.

- Toxicokinetic Studies of the Two Stimulants M-ALPHA and N-Methyl-cyclazodone Using In Vitro and In Vivo Tools. [Journal Article]Metabolites. 2026 Apr 23; 16(5).M
- Background/Objectives: Synthetic stimulants represent the most prevalent subclass on the new psychoactive substances (NPSs) market. However, the toxicokinetic properties of M-ALPHA, a regioisomer of MDMA and N-methyl-cyclazodone a pemoline derivative, are not yet characterized. Methods: Therefore, this study investigated the metabolism of both NPSs in pooled liver S9 fraction and rat urine, chara…

- Effectiveness of Stimulant Treatment in Preventing Fractures and Head Injuries in Patients With Narcolepsy: A Self-Controlled Case Series Study. [Journal Article]Pharmacotherapy. 2026 Apr; 46(4):e70132.P
- CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicate that overall stimulant use did not decrease the risk of fracture or head injury in patients with narcolepsy. However, methylphenidate may help prevent fractures. Clinicians should balance the safety and effectiveness of each stimulant with additional preventive strategies for injury.

- Detection of levamisole and its metabolites in horses after oral levamisole administration over seven days. [Journal Article]J Am Vet Med Assoc. 2024 Dec 01; 262(12):1632-1638.JA
- Levamisole is a regulated substance sometimes administered to racehorses to treat equine protozoal myelitis. Metabolites include compound II, aminorex, and pemoline. Aminorex and pemoline are Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority-banned substances. Previous studies have examined single doses of the drug. This study examined the disposition of levamisole after 7 days of dosing.

- Enhancing medical image segmentation with a multi-transformer U-Net. [Journal Article]
- Various segmentation networks based on Swin Transformer have shown promise in medical segmentation tasks. Nonetheless, challenges such as lower accuracy and slower training convergence have persisted. To tackle these issues, we introduce a novel approach that combines the Swin Transformer and Deformable Transformer to enhance overall model performance. We leverage the Swin Transformer's window at…

- [Psychostimulants: An Overview]. [Journal Article]Brain Nerve. 2023 May; 75(5):599-604.BN
- Treatment of narcolepsy is based on the need to regulate life rhythms. Psychostimulants such as modafinil, methylphenidate-immediate release, and pemoline are used to treat hypersomnia. A psychosocial approach is considered the mainstay of treatment for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and medication is used to treat moderate or severe ADHD symptoms. Two of the four drugs approved…

- Reconsideration of the Benefits of Pharmacological Interventions for the Attenuation of the Cognitive Adverse Effects of Electroconvulsive Therapy. [Meta-Analysis]
- The cognitive adverse effects (AEs) of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) limit the wider use of the treatment. These AEs can be attenuated by changing the way ECT is administered; however, such changes may reduce the response rate, the speed of response, or both. A recent systematic review and meta-analysis identified more than a dozen pharmacologic interventions in 26 randomized controlled trials …

- Prevalence, incidence, and medications of narcolepsy in Japan: a descriptive observational study using a health insurance claims database. [Journal Article]
- The objectives of this study were to describe prevalence, incidence, and medications among patients who were diagnosed with narcolepsy in Japan using a claims database. Patients diagnosed with narcolepsy were identified from January 2010 to December 2019 using an employment-based health insurance claims database compiled by JMDC Inc. The prevalence and incidence of narcolepsy were estimated annua…

- Effects of pemafibrate on primary biliary cholangitis with dyslipidemia. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Administration of PEM is effective in PBC patients with dyslipidemia who are refractory to UDCA monotherapy. In patients using both UDCA and BEZ, there was an advantage in switching to PEM if they had renal damage; however, improvement of ALP and GGT occurred in about 50%.

- Comparative efficacy and safety of stimulant-type medications for depression: A systematic review and network meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: While our review suggests that some psychostimulants-particularly methylphenidate-appear well-tolerated and demonstrate some efficacy for depression, as well as fatigue and sleepiness, the strength of evidence in our estimates was low to very low for most agents given the small sample sizes, few RCTs, and imprecision in most estimates. A lack of consistent evidence precludes a definitive hierarchy of treatments and points to a need for additional, high-quality RCTs.

- The Pemoline Model of Self-Injurious Behavior: An Update. [Journal Article]
- Neurodevelopmental disorders typically comprise a complex constellation of behavioral symptoms and neurochemical abnormalities. However, many of the symptoms are inconsistently expressed within any one particular patient group or overlap between patient groups. In other words, there is usually heterogeneity of symptoms between diagnostic groups, and there is often partial homogeneity of symptoms …

- The role of neurotensin in vulnerability for self-injurious behaviour: studies in a rodent model. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The elevation of striatal neurotensin immunoreactivity during pemoline treatment, coupled with the effects of the NTS1 agonist and antagonist, suggests that neurotensin transmission in the striatum may be an important modulator of self-injurious behaviour in the pemoline model. Overall, the convergence of the behavioural and biochemical findings suggests that neurotensin signalling could be an important target for pharmacotherapeutic interventions for self-injurious behaviour.

- Miscellaneous treatments for antipsychotic-induced tardive dyskinesia. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: This review has found that the use of valbenazine or extract of Ginkgo biloba may be effective in relieving the symptoms of tardive dyskinesia. However, since only one RCT has investigated each one of these compounds, we are awaiting results from ongoing trials to confirm these results. Results for the remaining interventions covered in this review must be considered inconclusive and these compounds probably should only be used within the context of a well-designed evaluative study.

- The pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions for the management of fatigue related multiple sclerosis. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Further research into Pharmacological interventions for MSRF is required notably considering the potential of Modafinil. Yoga and energy conservation/fatigue management programs had strong evidence supporting use in management of MSRF. Due to the dissimilar interventions used in combined training the subtype of exercise cannot be recommended. Future research into Amantadine, psycho-behavioural interventions is vital to justify the current National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidelines. The methodological quality of studies inhibited the ability of this review to provide other recommendations.

- Pharmacological treatments for fatigue in patients with multiple sclerosis: A systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Current limited data suggest that amantadine may be the only drug that has relatively sufficient evidences in treatment of fatigue symptoms in MS. Further RCT studies recruiting larger samples sizes are required to validate the therapeutic effect of these candidate drugs.
