- Combination Therapy of Montelukast and Desloratadine in Pediatric Allergic Rhinitis: Effects on Symptoms and Inflammatory Markers. [Journal Article]J Vis Exp. 2026 Oct 30; (236).JV
- This retrospective, controlled study evaluated the clinical outcomes of montelukast sodium combined with desloratadine syrup in pediatric patients with allergic rhinitis. Medical records from 360 children aged 6-12 years treated between October 2021 and November 2024 were reviewed. Patients were classified according to documented treatment as desloratadine monotherapy (Group A, n = 180) or deslor…

- Pharmacological management of vestibular migraine of childhood in a pediatric vestibular program. [Journal Article]Int J Pediatr Otorhinolaryngol. 2026 Oct 13; 211:113046. [Online ahead of print]IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: For pediatric vestibular migraine prevention, topiramate showed superior improvement in dizziness and headache with acceptable tolerability. Triptans performed the best among rescue medications. This highlights topiramate as a potential first line preventative and supports triptans in treating pediatric vestibular migraine attacks.

- Association between prophylactic desloratadine use and docetaxel-induced skin toxicities in patients with early-stage breast cancer: an inverse probability-weighted retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Desloratadine prophylaxis was associated with lower skin-toxicity risk, particularly for pruritus. Rash risk was lower but imprecisely estimated; HFS risk was not lower. These hypothesis-generating findings warrant validation in a prospective randomized trial.

- Unveiling Novel Molecular Candidate Targets of Loratadine, Raloxifene, and Sorafenib in Hepatocellular Carcinoma. [Journal Article]
- Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains a major global health burden. We have recently demonstrated the synergistic cytotoxicity elicited by the combination of loratadine, raloxifene, and sorafenib in liver cancer cells. In this study, we investigated the potential mechanistic basis of this novel multi-drug regimen by identifying candidate protein targets of the three drugs. Potential protein targ…

- Kynurenic acid attenuates experimental allergic rhinitis: Evidence for AhR-associated regulation of mucosal immune homeostasis. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, KYNA attenuates experimental AR through systemic anti-inflammatory effects and restoration of mucosal immune regulation. AhR signaling contributes to these effects, particularly in CYP1A1 and cytokine regulation, while additional mechanisms may also be involved. These findings support KYNA as a potential immunometabolic modulator in allergic airway disease.

- The Effects of Cyproheptadine on Severe COVID-19 From the I-SPY COVID Adaptive Platform Trial. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In an open-label phase 2 trial of adults critically ill with severe COVID-19, cyproheptadine did not improve recovery or survival compared with the standard of care.

- The effectiveness of cyproheptadine as a treatment option for cats with eosinophilic airway inflammation. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: There is no current evidence to support that cyproheptadine monotherapy has any immediate benefit over no treatment for feline eosinophilic airway inflammation, and its use is not supported for this indication. How to apply this evidence in practice The application of evidence into practice should take into account multiple factors, not limited to: individual clinical expertise, patient's circumstances and owners' values, country, location or clinic where you work, the individual case in front of you, the availability of therapies and resources.Knowledge Summaries are a resource to help reinforce or inform decision making. They do not override the responsibility or judgement of the practitioner to do what is best for the animal in their care.

- "Green spectrophotometric determination of rupatadine, its toxic impurity, and methyl paraben: comparative AI-assisted univariate versus multivariate chemometrics". [Journal Article]
- Sensitive and selective green UV-spectrophotometric univariate and multivariate chemometric methods were developed to resolve the overlapped spectra of rupatadine fumarate (RUP), its impurity desloratadine (DES), and methyl paraben (MP). The univariate approach employed was the dual-wavelength (DW) method. Guided by artificial intelligence (AI) in the selection of the optimal wavelength pair, the…

- Severe Serotonin Syndrome With Acute Respiratory Failure Following Ayahuasca and Dextromethorphan Use: A Case Report. [Case Reports]
- Ayahuasca is a psychoactive botanical brew originating from Amazonian ceremonial traditions, containing monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) derived from Banisteriopsis caapi and N,N-dimethyltryptamine from Psychotria viridis or Diplopterys cabrerana. Its use has expanded globally for perceived antidepressant and anti-addictive effects. However, the MAOI content of ayahuasca predisposes users to …

- [Guidelines for Serotonin Syndrome in Pediatrics]. [Practice Guideline]Medicina (B Aires). 2026 Aug; 86 Suppl 3:162-171.M
- This document is presented as a narrative guide based on the available evidence, adapted to the pediatric population. Since clinical trials in children are nonexistent, much of the information comes from case reports, narrative reviews, and extrapolation from adult studies. Serotonin syndrome is a potentially life-threatening condition caused by excessive serotonergic activity within the central …
- Serum Peptidomic Analysis in a Comparative Study of the Efficacy of Benjakul Remedy Versus Loratadine in Allergic Rhinitis Patients. [Journal Article]
- Benjakul (BJK) remedy, traditionally used to balance the four elements, has demonstrated clinical efficacy in relieving inflammation and allergic rhinitis (AR) symptoms. This study investigated differential serum peptide expression in AR patients treated with BJK remedy compared to loratadine using MALDI-TOF MS and LC-MS/MS. MALDI-TOF MS revealed four shared mass peptide patterns that were signif…

- Resolution of recurrent pancreatitis and nutritional recovery with CFTR modulator therapy in CFTR-related disorder: a case report. [Case Reports]Front Pediatr. 2026; 14:1815310.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights the potential benefit of CFTR modulators in CFTR-related disorders and supports consideration of therapy in selected non-classic presentations. Although weight gain began after initiation of mirtazapine, it continued following ETI and was accompanied by improvement in gastrointestinal symptoms and resolution of pancreatitis episodes.

- Rupatadine Ameliorates Cisplatin-Induced Hepatotoxicity in Rats: Targeting HMGB1/TLR4/NF-κB and NLRP3/Caspase-1 Signaling Pathways. [Journal Article]J Biochem Mol Toxicol. 2026 Aug; 40(8):e71050.JB
- Despite cisplatin (CISP) is broadly employed in cancer therapy, its adverse effects, involving hepatotoxicity, restrict its clinical usage. Thus, this study was designed to explore the prospect of repurposing rupatadine (RUPA), a dual antagonist of histamine and platelet-activating factor (PAF), against CISP-evoked hepatotoxicity in rats. Rats were i.p. injected with CISP (6 mg/kg) for the induct…

- Efficacy of ultraviolet irradiation of pharmaceutical excipients in mitigating N-nitrosamine generation. [Journal Article]J Pharm Sci. 2026 Sep; 115(9):104435.JP
- The generation of N-nitrosamine compounds (NOCs) in drugs presents a critical regulatory challenge owing to their potential mutagenicity and exceptionally strict acceptable intake limits required for patient safety. These impurities arise primarily from the reaction between amine-containing active pharmaceutical ingredients and trace amounts of nitrosating agents (reactive NOx), which contribute …
