- Bridging perception and reality: Parasitic identification in delusional parasitosis. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Accurate parasite identification is crucial to ensure proper treatment in true parasitic infections and prevent DP misdiagnosis. This study highlights the importance of an integrated parasitology-psychiatry approach, particularly when patients present with persistent symptoms despite negative laboratory test results. These findings support the establishment of diagnostic protocols and improved interdisciplinary communication to enhance care for patients with suspected parasitic infections.

- Epidemiological screening of pinworm, schistosomiasis, and intestinal parasites in Eswatini preschoolers. [Journal Article]J Helminthol. 2026 Sep 18; 100:e118.JH
- Preschool children in the Kingdom of Eswatini are excluded from the national school-based deworming programme and had never been surveyed for parasitic infection. During June 2019 we conducted a cross-sectional baseline survey of 261 children (mean age 4.8 ± 0.75 years) attending 16 kindergartens and community care points across 4 provinces. Enterobius vermicularis was sought on peri-anal celloph…

- ParasiteNet: Deep Learning-Based Identification of Parasitic Helminth Eggs in Microscopic Images. [Journal Article]
- Parasitic helminth infections remain a major public health concern, particularly in low-resource settings where microscopic diagnosis requires significant time and expertise. This study presents ParasiteNet, a deep learning-based framework for automated classification of 12 helminth egg categories from microscopic images. A dataset of 12,000 annotated images was used to train and evaluate two arc…

- StatPearls: Enterobius Vermicularis [BOOK]StatPearls. StatPearls Publishing: Treasure Island (FL).BOOK
- Enterobius vermicularis, also called pinworm, is one of the most common nematode infections in the world. Originally, E. vermicularis was named Oxyuris vermicularis. Humans are the only natural host for this infection. Transmission occurs in people who are living in crowded environments and usually occurs within families. The worms are tiny, thread-like, and whitish. The worm is named after the c…
- A ribosomal marker-based metataxonomic framework for environmental surveillance of nematodes of public health importance. [Journal Article]
- Metataxonomic analysis targeting the V4 region of the 18S rDNA gene, combined with molecular phylogenetic inference, was applied to detect nematode DNA of public health relevance in environmental matrices. A total of 25 mOTUs corresponding to six nematode taxa were detected in environmental samples from the Andean region of Colombia. Analysis of 12 water and sludge samples from wastewater treatme…

- The I4746K mutation in the ryanodine receptor is associated with high-level resistance to diamide insecticides in Phthorimaea absoluta. [Journal Article]Pest Manag Sci. 2026 Aug 28. [Online ahead of print]PM
- CONCLUSIONS: This study emphasizes the significance of the I4746K mutation in diamide resistance and offers valuable insights into how this mutation variably influences the binding of diamide insecticides, thereby informing strategies for resistance management in P. absoluta. © 2026 Society of Chemical Industry.

- Parasite-Host Associations in Pinworms (Trypanoxyuris spp.) From Spider Monkeys (Ateles spp.). [Journal Article]
- Pinworms of primates are highly host-specific parasites that, in several lineages, are known to share their evolutionary history with that of their hosts. However, for many primate clades, pinworm diversity has been incompletely assessed, leaving some groups of hosts entirely unexplored and large geographic gaps in our knowledge of primate-pinworm associations. In this study, morphological and mo…

- Modifiable hygiene practices and the burden of protozoal and helminthic infections among undernourished children in Taiz, Yemen: a hospital-based cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Intestinal parasitic infections are prevalent in undernourished children and contribute to reduced anthropometric measurements. Strong, independent correlations with the drinking of untreated water and unhygienic nail cuttings revealed identifiable, modifiable behaviors that are important for health and development. The study data illustrate the need to integrate targeted hygiene and WASH programs and become standard in pediatric nutrition centers in unstable, low-resource contexts to curb fecal-oral disease transmission.

- [Investigation on prevalence of pinworm infection among kindergarten children and knowledge of prevention and control among teachers and parents in Gaoyou City from 2023 to 2025]. [Journal Article]Zhongguo Xue Xi Chong Bing Fang Zhi Za Zhi. 2026 Apr 15; 38(3):309-313.ZX
- CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of pinworm infection in kindergarten children in Gaoyou City is at a low level. Health intervention can effectively improve the knowledge level of teachers and parents on the prevention and treatment of pinworm disease, but further efforts are needed to strengthen the health education and management of pinworm disease in private kindergartens.

- CONCLUSIONS: The overall prevalence of soil-transmitted nematodiasis was low in Hubei Province from 2016 to 2023; however, the prevalence varied across regions and among populations, with E. vermicularis as the predominant species of soil-transmitted nematode. Soil-transmitted nematodiasis control should be given a high priority in key areas in Hubei Province, and preschool children, primary school students, and individuals with a low educational level are recommended as key target populations for health education and interventions.

- Clinical Practices in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Enterobiasis: A Retrospective Analysis. [Journal Article]Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2026 Oct 07; 115(4):827-832.AJ
- Enterobius vermicularis is the most common nematode infection in the United States. Despite this prevalence, few studies have evaluated current clinical practices with regard to diagnosis and management. Price increases in anthelmintics in the United States add a component of cost-conscious care to treatment selection. We conducted a retrospective analysis of 200 patients in the Military Health S…

- Sigmoid volvulus and incidental enterobiasis in a young adult: a case report. [Case Reports]Front Surg. 2026; 13:1883256.FS
- CONCLUSIONS: Sigmoid volvulus should be considered in young adults presenting with acute colonic obstruction, particularly when imaging features are characteristic. A two-stage strategy of colonoscopic detorsion followed by definitive laparoscopic sigmoidectomy is feasible and effective in hemodynamically stable patients without ischemia. The clinical relevance of the coexisting enterobiasis remains hypothesis-generating and should not be overstated.

- Unwanted tenants: Does the introduction of a preventive deworming program in Poland make sense? [Journal Article]Przegl Epidemiol. 2026 Jun 19; 80(1):23-37.PE
- The article analyzes the status of parasitic infections in Poland, with a focus on pinworm, roundworm, and giardiasis. It highlights gaps in disease monitoring following legal changes in 2008 that eliminated reporting requirements for many parasitic diseases. The last reliable epidemiological data (from 2008) show an 18% increase in roundworm cases and a 21% rise in pinworm infections, alongside …
