- EEG-Derived Wavelet Index for Assessment of Procedural Sedation in Children Undergoing Magnetic Resonance Examination: A Diagnostic Study. [Journal Article]Paediatr Anaesth. 2026 Sep 07. [Online ahead of print]PA
- CONCLUSIONS: WLI may provide an adjunctive, non-stimulating measure for risk stratification in pediatric MRI sedation, although the clinical utility of WLI-guided management should be confirmed in prospective studies.

- Dexmedetomidine Versus Fentanyl as an Adjuvant to 0.75% Ropivacaine in Ultrasound-Guided Infraclavicular Brachial Plexus Block: An Observational Study. [Journal Article]Cureus. 2026 Aug; 18(8):e114094.C
- Background Peripheral nerve blockade is increasingly used in upper limb orthopedic surgery to provide effective anesthesia and prolonged postoperative analgesia while reducing systemic opioid requirements. Ultrasound-guided infraclavicular brachial plexus block provides reliable anesthesia for surgeries of the elbow, forearm, wrist, and hand, and adjuvants are frequently added to local anesthetic…

- Boosting Bupivacaine: The Role of Adjuvant Perineural Dexmedetomidine in Femoral Nerve Blocks. [Journal Article]Cureus. 2026 Aug; 18(8):e114092.C
- Background Effective pain management in patients with femoral fractures, such as intertrochanteric fractures, remains a major challenge in emergency medicine. Ultrasound-guided femoral nerve blocks administered on arrival have emerged as a promising alternative to conventional parenteral analgesics due to their ease of administration, rapid onset of analgesia, prolonged sensory blockade, and redu…

- An Evaluation of the Effect of Opioid-Free Anesthesia on Early Quality of Recovery in Patients Undergoing Gynecological Cancer Surgeries: A Randomized Controlled Trial. [Journal Article]Cureus. 2026 Aug; 18(8):e114038.C
- Background and objective While quality of recovery (QoR) has been studied in breast cancer surgeries using opioid-free anesthesia (OFA), it has not been assessed as a primary outcome in gynecological cancer surgeries. This study aimed to evaluate QoR using the QoR-40 score in gynecological cancer surgeries, comparing OFA with opioid-based anesthesia (OBA). Secondary outcomes included pain scores,…

- Respiratory Support With Nasal High Flow Reduces Opioid Requirements During Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography. [Journal Article]DEN Open. 2027 Apr; 7(1):e70421.DO
- CONCLUSIONS: NHF reduced opioid requirements while maintaining oxygenation, ventilation, and sedation during ERCP. The ability of NHF to provide respiratory support, ensure adequate oxygenation, and allow monitoring of breathing makes it a promising modality during procedural sedation; however, further multi-center studies are needed.

- Opioid-Sparing Versus Opioid-Based Analgesia for Craniotomy: A Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial. [Journal Article]J Neurosurg Anesthesiol. 2026 Sep 07. [Online ahead of print]JN
- CONCLUSIONS: Both opioid-based and opioid-sparing regimens were similar regarding rescue analgesia, postoperative pain, and other in-hospital outcomes in patients undergoing craniotomy. Dexmedetomidine increased the occurrence of intraoperative hypotension and reduced postoperative shivering compared with fentanyl.

- Effect of Dexmedetomidine on Postoperative Analgesia After Video-assisted Thoracoscopic Lobectomy Surgery. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: Perioperative dexmedetomidine infusion reduced postoperative epidural analgesic requirements and improved early postoperative pain control and patient satisfaction in patients undergoing VATS lobectomy with combined epidural and general anesthesia. Despite an increased incidence of transient bradycardia and hypotension, dexmedetomidine was well tolerated and may be considered an effective opioid-sparing adjunct in this surgical population.

- Volatile-Free Total Intravenous Anesthesia for Major Gynecologic Surgery in a Manifesting Female Carrier of Becker Muscular Dystrophy: A Case Report. [Case Reports]
- Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD) is a rare X-linked dystrophinopathy caused by dystrophin gene (DMD gene) variants, resulting in reduced or dysfunctional dystrophin. Despite a milder course than Duchenne muscular dystrophy, patients face significant perioperative risk from skeletal muscle degeneration, respiratory weakness, cardiomyopathy, and conduction abnormalities. Succinylcholine and volatile…

- Perioperative dexmedetomidine plus esketamine for postoperative neurocognitive outcomes: a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: The findings suggest that perioperative combined administration of dexmedetomidine and esketamine may be associated with attenuated postoperative neuronal injury, improved early cognitive function, and reduced risks of POD, PONV, and pain. Further high-quality multicenter randomized controlled trials are warranted to confirm these preliminary findings.

- Efficacy and safety of preoperative intranasal dexmedetomidine in adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials. [Review]Braz J Anesthesiol. 2026 Sep 03; :844820. [Online ahead of print]BJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Preoperative IN dexmedetomidine may improve sedation and blunt peri-induction hemodynamic responses compared with controls, with broadly similar hemodynamic effects and fewer observed cardiovascular adverse events versus IV administration. However, certainty was low or very low for several efficacy outcomes, and larger well-designed trials are needed.

- CONCLUSIONS: The evaluated oscillometric device cannot be considered interchangeable with IBP monitoring in anesthetized pumas. Of the arterial blood pressure variables, MAP showed the most consistent agreement with IBP, although individual measurements may be associated with clinically relevant error.
