- Chronic intestinal and colonic pseudo-obstruction (CIPO) represent a severe and heterogeneous group of gastrointestinal motility disorders with symptoms of bowel obstruction in the absence of a mechanical cause. Neurological and neuromuscular diseases are among the most important etiological factors, caused by dysfunction of the enteric nervous system, extrinsic autonomic pathways and intestinal …

- Gender differences in stigma and care avoidance among people living with MASLD: an international survey. [Journal Article]JHEP Rep. 2026 Sep 02; :101987. [Online ahead of print]JR
- CONCLUSIONS: Stigma emerges as a major, gender-specific barrier to care in MASLD, with distinct mechanisms in men and women. Integrating gender-sensitive, stigma-informed strategies into MASLD care may improve access and continuity of care.

- Circulating microRNAs as biomarkers of disease activity and treatment response in Crohn's disease patients receiving infliximab or vedolizumab: a longitudinal cohort study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Serum miRNAs offer novel predictive (baseline miR-146b-5p and miR-106a-5p) and concurrent (post-induction miR-424-5p) biomarker signals during biologic induction in CD, providing information complementary to faecal calprotectin. Prospective independent validation is warranted before clinical translation.

- Non-invasive Assessment and Therapeutic Targeting in Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatohepatitis (MASH): Overcoming the Dissonance Between Drug Development and Precision Medicine. [Review]
- Despite two decades of therapeutic clinical trials in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), only two drugs have been approved so far for those with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) with fibrosis but not cirrhosis. Treatment responses are variable and difficult to predict, reflecting the complexity of disease pathophysiology as well as the current…

- Laparoscopic Heller-Dor as salvage therapy after failed POEM: a prospective comparative study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: LHD is safe and effective even after failed endoscopic therapy. However, patients previously treated with POEM represent a higher-risk subgroup with lower success rates and increased reflux.

- Steatotic liver disease trajectory: A holistic EASL guidance on the multidisciplinary approach to screening and patient management. [Review]
- Steatotic liver disease (SLD) is a spectrum of highly prevalent liver diseases encountered at many different healthcare levels. Awareness about metabolic dysfunction-associated SLD (MASLD), MetALD (MASLD and increased alcohol intake) and ALD (alcohol-related liver disease) is increasing beyond hepatology, as reflected by the various SLD guidelines issued by scientific societies from different dis…

- Global Prevalence of Self-Reported Alarm Features in the General Population and Among Individuals With Disorders of Gut-Brain Interaction-Results From the Rome Foundation Global Epidemiology Study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Self-reported alarm features are common in the general population and more prevalent among individuals with DGBI. These findings underscore the importance of interpreting alarm features within a broader clinical context rather than in isolation. Further studies are needed to clarify the diagnostic utility of alarm features in unselected populations, particularly among individuals with DGBI.

- Prospective validation of imaging and serum diagnostic biomarkers of steatohepatitis and fibrosis in MASLD: the LITMUS Imaging Study. [Multicenter Study]
- There is a need for robust evaluations of noninvasive biomarkers for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease. This prospective multicenter study assessed the diagnostic accuracy of imaging (including liver stiffness measurement (LSM) using magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) and FibroScan (vibration-controlled transient elastography (VCTE)), serum biomarkers (including NIS2+) a…

- Eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases. [Review]
- Eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases (EGID) are characterized by abnormal and prominent eosinophilic inflammation of the gastrointestinal mucosa, associated with symptoms related to the segment involved, in the absence of secondary causes of eosinophilia. EGID may affect different parts of the gastrointestinal tract, causing eosinophilic oesophagitis (EoE), eosinophilic gastritis, eosinophilic …

- Efficacy and safety of zalfermin co-administered with semaglutide in participants with fibrosis and cirrhosis due to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis: a phase 2, dose-ranging, double-blind, randomised controlled trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]Lancet Gastroenterol Hepatol. 2026 Sep; 11(9):797-811.LG
- CONCLUSIONS: In participants with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis and clinically significant fibrosis, the combination of zalfermin 30 mg plus semaglutide 2·4 mg did not significantly increase the proportion of participants who had an improvement in liver fibrosis and no worsening of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis compared with placebo by week 52. However, a nominally significant treatment effect was observed for semaglutide 2·4 mg versus placebo. Semaglutide might be considered for further clinical assessment as a potential disease-modifying therapy in the F4c population.
