  • Severe Mpox-Associated Proctocolitis Mimicking Opportunistic Colitis in a Liver Transplant Recipient. [Case Reports]
    ACG Case Rep J. 2026 Oct; 13(10):e02330.Deepali F, Rembalsky A, … Ezaz GAC
  • Mpox infection increasingly manifests with anorectal disease during the recent global outbreak. Severe ulcerative proctocolitis in solid-organ transplant recipients remains rarely described. We report a 37-year-old liver transplant recipient with well-controlled HIV infection (CD4 count 661 cells/µL [35%] and HIV RNA <20 copies/mL) presenting with severe watery diarrhea, rectal pain, disseminated…
  • Food protein-induced allergic proctocolitis: an early step on the atopic march. [Review]
    Curr Opin Pediatr. 2026 Oct 01; 38(5):509-514.Spano K, Gervais T, Martin VCO
  • CONCLUSIONS: FPIAP may represent an early marker of atopic predisposition rather than an isolated gastrointestinal disorder. Recognizing its potential role within the atopic march has important implications for diagnosis, dietary management, and timing of allergen introduction. Improved diagnostic precision, earlier reintroduction of offending allergen, and timely introduction of other food allergens may reduce unnecessary restriction and mitigate downstream atopic risk.
  • Isolated rectal bleeding in neonates: a scoping review. [Journal Article]
    J Pediatr (Rio J). 2026 Sep-Oct; 102(5):101594.Markevich A, Botelho JG, … Lomazi EAJP
  • CONCLUSIONS: Most of the reviewed articles presented case reports or observational case series. The main cause of rectal bleeding in otherwise asymptomatic neonates was the descriptive diagnosis of isolated rectal bleeding, which evolved benignly and spontaneously. The second most frequent cause was CMPA, though most cases were not confirmed by an oral food challenge. IRB in neonates has been managed without standardized protocols for investigation or treatment.
  • Imaging of anorectal and perineal emergencies - a multimodality review. [Review]
    Emerg Radiol. 2026 Oct; 33(5):1143-1158.Mehta P, Jaganathan S, … Ojili VER
  • Acute anorectal and perineal emergencies encompass a wide spectrum of infectious, inflammatory, traumatic, iatrogenic, and neoplastic conditions that often present with nonspecific symptoms but may rapidly progress to significant morbidity if unrecognized. Imaging plays a central role in diagnosis, assessment of disease extent, detection of complications, and treatment planning because clinical e…
  • A Rare Case of Cow's Milk Protein Allergy in a 12-Hour Old Neonate With Rectal Bleeding. [Journal Article]
    Case Rep Pediatr. 2026; 2026:5574716.Kakuchi I, Giroud Rivier A, … Joye SCR
  • Hematochezia presenting in the neonatal period requires a thorough exploration of life-threatening and benign pathologies, including food protein-induced allergic proctocolitis (FPIES). This non-IgE-mediated food allergy is most commonly associated with cow's milk protein (CMP). It classically presents in the first weeks to months of life, following the introduction of a cow's milk-based formula …
  • Clinical characteristics, prognosis, and risk factors for tolerance development in food protein-induced allergic proctocolitis: a retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]
    Transl Pediatr. 2026 Apr 30; 15(4):142.Gao Y, Ye X, … Wu JTP
  • CONCLUSIONS: FPIAP generally carries a favorable prognosis, with 66.3% of affected infants achieving oral tolerance within the first year of life. A family history of allergic diseases and multiple food allergies were associated with delayed oral tolerance. Although exclusive breastfeeding was more frequently observed among infants who developed early tolerance, this association is likely influenced by underlying differences in disease severity and should not be interpreted as evidence of a causal protective effect. These findings underscore the clinical value of early breastfeeding guidance and individualized elimination diet strategies in optimizing outcomes for infants with FPIAP.
  • Evaluation of liver function tests in children with food allergies. [Journal Article]
    Medicine (Baltimore). 2026 May 08; 105(19):e48743.Kaba I, Demirbaş Ar F, … Comba AM
  • The aim of this study was to investigate liver function tests and their association with clinical characteristics in children diagnosed with non-IgE-mediated food allergy. A total of 132 children with non-IgE-mediated food allergies and 127 age- and sex-matched healthy controls were retrospectively analyzed. Patient demographics, clinical features and response to treatment were analyzed. Serum as…
